So finally the parts arrived to finish the timing chains, I installed new oil squirters then proceeded to install the timing chains, when I removed all the guides from the old engine stripping it down I could have swore the guides were alloy with plastic coatings, turns out they are all rubber and just gone very hard and turned to plastic along with the two bushes holding the plastic guide on the right of pic two... Moving along, the head gasket rings sat pretty close to the bore in places i had to file some of the gasket off at the locators on top of the block to get it to sit just right as the pistons come just above deck and didnt want any interference. I still can't get over how big the ports are on these heads, it's making me think about the exhaust mani that I've got, I'm going to have to do some serious die grinding to match ports Cylinder head torqued 35nm 70nm then 105nm Rolled the engine over then went to look at the oil pump then remembered that the pump I is probably in a bad way, I pulled it apart and found very bad scoring and pitting all through it, so went though our stock and found a m52 pump that had a pump wheel, I then found to mount it I had to slot the rear bolt hole about 4mm inwards, also swapped the spring and sleeve from the m3 pump into the m52 so the insides remain the same sort of, I swapped the sprockets over and tig welded the nut to the sprocket and to the shaft, job done On the top part of the cylinder head applyed some lock tight red sealant replacing the o-rings in between then proceeded to install the cams then I remembered someone saying I have to run a cam trigger wheel on one cam and didn't get any trigger wheels from vac motorsports, they are really expensive so figured I try make one, as there is a 2mm spacer with spline that goes on the end of the cam shafts between the sprocket plates I figure that seens as there is 2mm I can reduce the spacer to 1mm and then cut one of the trigger wheels 1mm from the mating face then I get my 2mm and everything will line up apart from my cam sensor, the trigger will sit 1mm closer inwards to the head as it used to sit after the spacer, I may be able to space out the sensor with a washer time will tell. Last photo I just sat the covers on, sh*t these engines are cool ?

Moving over from Melbourne in October I was to start my new job at the end of Feb. I spent the whole month looking around for the 'right' car, finally I found one. The km's were a tad on the high side but for the price I couldn't turn it down. After some discussions with the previous owner and an AA check I flew down to Wellington and bought my first BMW, a 130i. I was amazed at how easy the car was to drive over long distances as I drove back that night (Although those run-flats are still giving my nightmares), I thought not having cruise control was going to be agony but alas I was stoked with it. Giz served me well, he made the 20 min commute to my new job with ease. I was having so much fun driving this little pocket rocket around and hearing that snarl of the 3.0L engine from the quad exhaust. I say 'was', because unfortunately after only 12 days of mate ship he was taken away from me. On the commute home from work, the truck following failed to notice myself and everyone else coming to a stop. I watched as the driver failed to pay attention, getting ever larger in my rear view mirror. I knew he'd never pull it up in time on the greasy road so I put my head back on the head rest and waited to be hit. Poor Giz sacrificed himself to let me walk away with only a concussion, I was devastated, I had my independence stripped away, a friend stolen too soon. I was also thankful, thankful that Giz held up so well in the crash that I was able to walk away. So it was settled, I needed to buy another Baby Beamer. So I did, today! I put the deposit down on a black 2009 manual 130i. Personally love the feel of the manual more than the Auto Giz was rocking around in. I'm sorry that I don't have any photo's yet of it and still thinking of a name, but when I take ownership later next week I'll be sure to update this post. I look forward to getting to know the community here and learning a bit more about E87's and BMW's in general. tl;dr - Flew to Wellington to buy a 130i. Had it 12 days, hit by a truck. So I bought another one.

Set the climate control to recirc, when you heat up your tyres... Andrew: Remember that 928 that sucked the tyre smoke in, and he had to let it out the sunroof

Hopefully VW NZ aren't adopting similar tactics to the Australian VAG arm (I did use capitals then, yes?)... have you seen the stories in the USA where they have a court-ordered (eg compulsory) buy-back scheme where the price is agreed, and the owners then strip their cars and drive them into the dealerships without doors, interiors, bumpers.... sitting on a milk crate, and walk out with their cheques and a bunch of near new VW parts to sell on ebay or craigslist. Well at least that was the intent... link to the Jalopnik story for the image above

Haha yeah it's pretty funny, he holds nothing back. Got mates banging on about their Vag diesels, gone quiet but been pretty screwed over really, good thing I stayed Petrol , probably less emissions from the V10. Well that's what I'll tell myself

Easy fix, replaced side indicators and corner indicators, damn rubbish plastic tabs snapped in the corners so got a set off ebay, nice to get on after a couple weeks waiting delivery

The Meremere track is slippery too, so you will have less traction than the road. Stall the torque converter up slightly, brake on hard, with your left foot and accel slightly, 1000 to 1500rpm is probably as much as you can do, you'll spin the tires with anymore so getting the right launch is key. Good luck!

Get it towed to a proper bmw mechanic and get it professionally diagnosed. No point speculating heas gasket or anything at this stage.
