New-ish member here, onto my third BMW wagon, this one is a significant step up in performance from my previous E46 318i and E91 320i - loving the 6 cylinder, diesel a bit rough sounding at low speeds but goes like the proverbial when you put your foot down in sport.

there is some validity in what he said but seems like he has "dumbed it down" to make it easier to understand/convince/trick or hes just dumb himself. How can they say your car needs a "more expensive" service without knowing what has already been done? Its not like it was serviced by them for the whole duration of the car's life so how do they know if you have replaced the cabin filters or brake pads etc? There are many ways to cut the cake, not 1 is any better than the other. IF you want hassle free motoring and dont mind paying the costs then sure, stealership services will provide that. BUT i dont trust the "last twice as long" BS. If you drive the car hard and do more mileage than the average joe, they also cant just boldly claim that their service will last longer. I personally do oil changes every 8000kms on all my vehicles. It is a small price to pay, oil can be bought for cheap (good quality and meets BMW standards) and genuine filters are also easily bought. All up costs me $100 to do it and I would rather do it this way than pay $200 per service and drive it for "twice as long" as they claim.

Got to love the internet and the advice that comes with it. Inspection 1/2 services haven't been used since the e83, everything is now CBS (Condition Based Servicing) LL04 is long life oil for diesels, LL01 is for petrol vehicles. With CBS, every oil service, the microfilter is also due to be replaced. Every 2nd or 3rd oil service, depending on the car, the , fuel filter, air filter, whatever, those additionals you can't see via the dash. Brake fluid is also due every 2 years regardless of mileage so it is very possible that everything lines up depending on the mileage and the history of the car. It shows the big service because of what I've said above, the other service you need to be aware of for the 130i is that the spark plugs are due at 100kms

The BMW dealers do offer a good level of service and use BMW parts and fluid. You couldn’t go wrong getting your car serviced there. however, a component specialist should be just as good, there are a number of oils from the big-name brands that meet the BMW spec. The subject of longer service intervals via BMW is the topic of some debate online. There is a school of thought that stretching the service interval saves BMW money when the cars are on their new vehicle service plan vs true improvements in oil and engines. Up to you really. For what it’s worth I service my car every 10,000km or 12 months - it’s probably overkill and the oil always looks pretty clean when it comes out but that’s just me. Probably depends on how long you intend to keep the car too.

Super common to have cam timing doing this, the gears are adjustable and fairly easy to fix I have a timing tool cut for these for this reason

Hi all, New to the world of BMW's. Have a mate at work who's been hounding me to buy one so finally gave in! Picked her up on the weekend and have absolutely fallen in love! It's an 87 325i in manual. The plan for the time being is to recover from the initial expense then a few of the basics, suspension refresh, exhaust, and eventually a respray.

Changed out the driver's door window regulator. Actually changed it out on Saturday, then again on Sunday while I worked out why the new (aftermarket ) regulator wouldn't work, and finally today, when I sucked it up and got a used regulator from a wrecker. The used part might be 15 years old, but at least the drive pulley isn't made of cheese.

Day 108. Shifter bushes all changed, turner motorsport rear bush and UUC bushes on the front. The UUC bushes are too long, but cut down with a scalpel easily. Gearbox seals swapped, pretty straight forwards. Thought the rear nut was 30mm, its bigger, so the rear seal can stay. Its not leaking anyway. Flywheel off, all cleaned up, and the single mass flywheel and clutch in and torqued up. Easy. The original throw out bearing feels like its full of gravel, dual mass flywheel is sloppy as, and the clutch plate is well used... 236k, its done pretty well. CDV removed, the orifice is teeny..Its like BMW intended it to be an option with quick disconnects on each end. Now have a good old fashioned clutch and flywheel. New gearbox mounts, and its ready to go back together.

Hi all, Owning an E30 has been in the back of my mind since seeing my uncle sliding slideways on dirt roads, so I finally got myself a coupe to call my own. She's a 1990 320i auto in grey. Looking to change the situation about the auto pretty quick! Also in need of some love in the suspension/bushes department, to refresh the undercarriage for a bit better body control.

I got a 3 year mechanical warranty with it we'll see how good it is when the first thing breaks

He is capable of sharing genuinely useful information and ideas (no really) if you are prepared to stop being butthurt and engage intelligently with him. He may even draw you a spreadsheet!
