Over on Bluey, the reassembly of the engine can begin with the Vanos rebuild complete, the timing system goes back together with new rails, chains, tensioners, etc...

G'day, I thought I'd start a project journal on here. Picked up a 1986 BMW 320i. In a bit of a state, but WoF and Rego. A good starting point for the price. Priority is the original M20B20: Cylinder 1 - 160psi Cyinder 2 - 150psi Cylinder 3 - 95psi Cylinder 4 - 70psi Cylinder 5 - 120psi Cylinder - 6 160psi So not ideal, but I'd like to rebuild it if I can. Hoping it's just a head gasket and not the head, we'll see. This is the first time I've pulled a head off so any advice is appreciated. Enjoyed working on stuff with my grandad when he was alive, but wasn't my old man's thing. I've got a son due in October and would love to know what I'm doing by the time he's ready to pick up a wrench, so I bought this to teach myself, and get back to doing something I love. Chur, Josh

I have finally got the silver 540 back from the transmission shop following the post rebuild symptom of a harsh jolt going from 5 to 4 on deceleration when oil hot. All is well with them finally tracing the problem to another part of the vale body system which they have replaced a section with a good refurbished unit. Not a section they normally have to replace in a full rebuild. The car feels much better now across all shifting actually. A good result and a huge relief... except for the wheel they curbed.. which they will sort... good bugga's though really and went the distance with me... In other news the Bluebus finally arrived and has been installed so just getting the hang of that one now. Thanks to PO Rob for helping me recode the thing to suit the Japan video, something which the developer in the US did not factor in...

Had a squeeking / groaning form the rear. Was it from recent new parts / work? ohh noooo, this is going to drive me insane! Read a post it could be leather on leather squeeking. It was! Fixed it! Follow your dreams!

I believe this to be the juvenile version of the above... not yet showing its adult plumage....

Did engine mounts on the 330i Wish someone told me that RHS one was a PITA even with the sub frame hanging down dealing with the exhuast/steering rack. After inventing a dictionary of swearing words realized the trick is to rotate it the opposite way before pulling it out the rear. Even knowing that its still difficult getting in. Maybe people probably disconnect thr Power steering rack or steering joint to get even more room. Oh well that engine support bar continues to be $100 well spent.
