Point of fact: it wasn't a question, it was a statement! 🤗 I'm not excusing the vendor! Actually I think he has read my publication "How not to list your car for sale", and really took to heart the photography section. Also, if you're looking at buying a modified vehicle and enquiry on mod and cert status is answered the same way this guy has, it's very difficult to proceed. You'll be wondering what else has been hidden, or what cowboy repairs have been effected. Can't believe I sold my genuine, alpinweiss, well-maintained (and improving) 1989 e30 325i Manual Touring for two thousand four hundred quid.

Yay, shiny bits! Got all this rejuvenated metal back from the machine shop. Pretty nice seeing it clean enough to eat out of. Full list of work done so far: Will probably cotton wrap it all and put on temporary hold until I get the head situation resolved. Still have the subframe bushes to sort out and gearbox detents to replace so plenty to keep me busy in the meantime. The shop guys reiterated that the main bearings don't really need replacing but I managed to find a new Glyco set for just around $85 so might still chuck new ones on whilst I'm at it. Still weighing up whether to drop ~$520 on new valve springs though. Would be nice but then again... $520. Money pit problems.

Anybody keen for a nice 2002?? https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/3596340928?tm=email&et=45&mt=729E11BE-B8E5-4BCB-A7AF-EACDC8ACB2FD&bof=YoeEB7jb Yes, it's a $40k starting price - but if you started with a $20k shitter it would end up costing a lot more than $40k to get it to this level. This one is an auto, which will put a few people off no doubt.

Yeah I'll do the clearance checks. Got some plastigauge and a feeler gauge handy. Will take the rings in if they happen to need a bit filed off. Some special tool required for that apparently.

Whats with the really gross looking seats? Poverty spec seats? It should have sport seats fitted.

I think it's a steal for 7 or 8, the buy now price seems reasonable, one could probably walk away with it for 9 or a bit less. But yes, a lot of how much you need to spend to bring it up to spec depends on the mechanical condition.

Depending whats wrong with it, dont let them write it off if you dont want to. They might offer you a cash settlement if they cant fix it in a certain period of time, and you could look to fix it yourself.

@Vass extremely (large) rear (compared with a standard E30)? Put it back on 15" basketweaves and sports seats 🤤

Will see what BM Workshop and German Kollison come back with in terms of damage. I’ve heard parts and panel is about a 3month wait so insurance company might make the decision for me; since everything has to be fixed and given back within a certain period. I’ll never be able to afford a car like this again so out of my hands at this stage.
