Smaller, lighter, quicker, better steering, and more practical than a coupe not to mention without the subframe RACP issues... Compact master race. White is their best colour imo, I really do think they are underrated. I always thought they were unique looking in a good way but having owned mine for a couple months now I genuinely think it's cool looking, especially with the 216M wheels. It'll only get better as I tidy up the exterior, plan to paint match the bumper strips, get facelift tail lights, maybe some spacers front and rear. I can't wait to start the project.

Selling my sisters 325i on her behalf, been a daily driver for the past 8 years. Solid E30 kept pretty close to all factory with good options list, and extensive service history. Details in TradeMe listing, limited by character count there so if you have any additional questions feel free to ask. Located in Wellington Lower price for bimmersport users - $15,000 https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/4318337428?bof=147mkTto

Here she is. Going to drive it a while as is but will be ultimately be looking to use it for some track day fun so will go down that route eventually. Had a good read of your thread @Jacko. Some great info in there!

Straight up. She gave me a key and I drove it home. Test drove it until the end of August, took it to VTNZ for a WoF to see if that was going to be an issue or if they would dream some up. Nothing. Took it to my mechanic and the mechanic she uses, went through the service history and noted the oil leak. I can tell she really loved the car, so I'd swing by and grab a coffee with her and her husband. She'd always kept the E36 garaged and their reason for selling it was now parked in its spot, the new 4-Series at a glance. It was a pretty awesome experience as far as buying a car goes.

It's good to be back. I recently picked up this E36 M Sport: I had no intention of owning this, I saw it in a carpark and told the owner I liked their car. Next thing she's giving me the keys and said if you still like it at the end of the month, you can buy it. It definitely felt too good to be true, but here we are. The two owners in the last fifteen years are her and her company. 160,000km and New Zealand new, the '328 S' plate has been with the car since '95. It's an unfamiliar starting point for me since it works, and I don't want to break anything. Suspect rear main seal is leaking, so there is that, and then I'll work through the typical E36 things, but to be honest I just want to give this thing a detail and drive it. I can't say I ever progressed from a bucket and sponge, but I recently started watching: AMMO NYC - YouTube and I'm keen to learn. Sing out if you're local (North Shore, Auckland) and have some wisdom to share, or just want to go for a drive (when I've fixed the oil leak).

Just widening my net on this. Have had it on Trademe for some time now and I am getting bored. 2009 Maserati Granturismo S 4.7. Big ticket items taken care of (Clutch, variators). Mechanically pretty reliable cars. There's a couple of minor things that the new owner might like to look at, mainly a few bits of sticky interior left, and a couple of switch modules. Looking for offers over $40000, which is pretty much bottom of the market for GranTurismos, and certainly the cheapest 4.7 by a long way. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/maserati/granturismo/listing/4285901138

No, the RACP design is actually quite different given it is shortened and raised to accommodate the spare wheel well. My understanding is the front mounts can still see some cracking and are similar to that of the coupe/sedan. In the rear while all other E46 chassis dip up and down, the back half of the hatch is flat so there’s no stress concentrations as the cross section is almost constant between the chassis rails. But overall because of this the entire panel is a lot more rigidly mounted and RACP failure is much less common even with higher HP drivetrains so long as the subframe bushings aren't shot. All that info is from a conversation with Cayn at CMP Auto Engineering who IMO is one of the best informed when it comes to E46 RACP stuff I may still reinforce the front mounts at some point and put chassis rail plates in to bulletproof it, but given it'll be a stock power street driven car it should be fairly safe from total failure the way other E46s are prone to.

You are getting some great advice from @Eagle. Better to buy a cheap 2.0L 6 cylinder (M52TU20) powered Z3 and swap in a 2.8L (M52TU28). Bolt for bolt swap and an easy DME (ECU) update for the larger engine. Just a Diff ratio change may be needed. Feel free to send me a PM to swap phone numbers and we can chat. I've down to 2 Z3's and have done lots of work on them.

Built by @BM WORLD Looks fine to me. Hatchbacks can only go so far in the looks dept.

Here's one for inspiration, built by HellBM some years ago if I'm not mistaken. Looks all sorts of wrong though.. https://www.trademe.co.nz/4316428545 They had a series of videos on this build on youtube as well. Can dig it up if that'd be of any help.

https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/4289575679 1988 E30 M3 - listed at $125k. However, TM description says: "Damaged import check This vehicle was imported into New Zealand with obvious damage or deterioration. This alert will not appear if the vehicle had superficial dents to some of its body panels." Which doesn't mean it is a bad car - lots of M3s were raced, significantly crashed, rebuilt, and sell for BIG money. Just something to be aware of.
