    One of the other things I did recently was to take advantage of the EQ built in to the headunit. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but figured I might as well make it as decent as possible. To do this on a budget I took advantage of a very nifty iOS app called HouseCurve, which comes with a profile that flattens out the microphone response and makes it suitable to measure a response curve. I used HouseCurve to take several measurements and average them out: Which gave me the default response of the system. HouseCurve has a built in mechanism to EQ the system and generate PEQ values, however the EQ on the Xtrons is a 16 band fixed frequencies EQ, rather than full parametric, so I wasn't able to take advantage of that directly. I could have adjusted each of the EQ bands manually to try and optimise, but I'd rather get the calculated optimum. So what I did was to export the measurements from HouseCurve and import them into REW which has a generic EQ which allows for specifying the fixed frequencies for each band. You can then optimise on just the Gain and Q values to the target curve you're seeking (I chose to use the AudioFrog curve). This gave the following (blue = target curve, dark green = original curve, light green = optimised curve): The graph of the filters looks like this: I was then able to take the calculated Gain and Q values for each filter and set them in the EQ in the Xtrons: And the difference is night and day. Sounds so, so much better, and such an easy thing to do to improve the end result!

    Sounds like a possible voltage issue. What is the alternator charge rate when engine is running? Also it's probably worth noting that your battery is too small. It should be a 90ah.

    I reckon even if they did it that you'd just end with numerous WOF places just passing\making up results anyway, just like they do for smoke tests which these vehicles would clearly fail. Cant see the enforcement side of it being very effective either.

    Regen braking that doesn't activate brake lights. Absolute joke. I watched a newish Hyundai slow from 80kph to 50kph quite quickly without any brake lights being activated. So quick I thought their lights were not working.

    Hey Olaf, I believe Highway Radar is available in public beta. You’ll need to enable Test Flight in your App Store. Googling “highway radar public beta” should give you a RDForums post with better info. I’m on a company phone so I’m fairly sure I can’t do it.

    Lets be very clear here, this is constant slipping on a wide variety of roads. So not OTT when it happens every time it rains.

    One other thing I have noticed recently, is how expensive Bridgestone and to a lesser extent Advantage (Beaurepairs) have become. Tyre Clinic and of course Hyperdrive can often provide a similar spec tyre at 2/3 to 1/2 the price. Not always I will admit, and you always have to add fitting of $25 or so per tyre, but RE003s seem to have nearly doubled in price over the last 5 or 6 years. Even the buy 1 get one half price deals still make the tyres expensive. The other thing I notice is we seem to get Asian spec tyres that are just not sold in Europe or the USA. As such it can be hard to find reviews. The Pirelli Powergy is a good example. I really do struggle to find a decent tyre at a reasonable price these days and I struggle to trust the lesser brands.

    Hi Russell, - just be careful before you right off your IR key fob, the digital camera test is not a 100% accurate of checking if the IR transmitter is working. ( of course it maybe stuffed too ). in particularly newer cameras filter IR, so you won't always see it working.. have you tried re-syncing it with the car..? there is a very specific procedure and must be done in the right conditions.. - i.e. out of the sunlight or other IR sources>.. if the battery is out for more than 30sec(from memory) or goes flat it will need to be re-synced. If you are 100% sure its no good, I have an old key you can have... Cheers

    Rant 1: it’s too stuffy and hot at night in Auckland for a good night’s sleep. Solution: Go and buy a cheap fan from Kmart. Rant 2: on the way to buy said fan from Kmart you encounter a wide load pilot vehicle. They box you in next to the curb and tell you: “drive up on the curb asap”. But you’re in a low car that definitely won’t go onto the curb. Solution: Gingerly risk reversing up the nearest driveway which is steep as sh** (it was the only alternative) Rant 3: Even though you take a wicked angle you scrape your FRESHLY PAINTED front lip that you only properly put back on your car TODAY. Solution: At least you’re going to get a good night’s sleep to cheer you up because you’ll be nice and cool with that new fan! Rant 4: Kmart’s online stock level indicator lied to you - there were no fans. Solution: Be grumpy that your car got damaged for a net zero gain, and still be too hot.
