In a Z3, there’s only one other person to say “Watch this!” to.

Latest in the line of BMW Art Cars. Great to see it is back to a full on race car livery. Photo courtesy of BMW Group NZ social media.

First car? Get an E46 with the M43 engine. Seriously. It'll handle well enough as stock, and the handling can be improved. That's a big plus. The engine, gearbox and drivetrain are reliable, and easy to work on. Parts are readily available. Parts are cheap. No - it is not the glamour that a Z3 might be, but it's a better, more practical and more suitable car for a first car.

Picture your favourite female in a leather corset/bustier. Now swap that out for Uberkaro, Houndstooth etc. It's just not the same is it?

Hi there, I’ve got a iDrive controller unit (4 pin, 3 screws to mount) on my 2012 320i that won’t move to the right properly. it’s fine doing everything else. I’ve looked around and I can’t seem to find a replacement unit or anyone that seems to work on these. I’m trying to avoid buying new because I know that’ll be crazy expensive. Anyone used any place to refurb one of these units? Chris.

That's an epic first car! Should be easy enough to work on and maintain, and heaps of fun to drive. If anything, your first car should be memorable, not some run-of-the-mill banged up Corolla. All power to him. Had a Saab 93 convertible as the first car I ever bought and paid for myself. Absolute money pit but damn was it awesome cruising down the motorway at night with the top down and the Milky Way stretching out across the sky above you. Still remember it fondly despite the financial disaster it turned out to be.

Put in a single mass in and you wont have to worry about it. Mine started becoming noticeable in the cabin when i put M3 flywheel\clutch in, before that you didnt hear anything unless you were underneath the car.

Sounds like a faulty cluster to me or the temperature sender side of the coolant sensor is playing up in turn causing the gauge to act abnormal. Sensor is easy to test by checking the resistance with multimeter at various temperatures, but otherwise as above with a scan tool or use a infrared thermostat to take readings around the coolant sensor. Id also scan the whole car for any fault codes at the same time.

I went and bought a new unit. It uses Linux instead of android. It still allows you to use android Auto or Apple Carplay. It allows a connection to the original BMW software so you can use this set the temp, playe the radio, check the oil etc. It hasn't arrived yet but I will do a review when it does.
