@Jun $20k + buys a lot of RUC / charging. A small car is quite desirable if you do a lot of town running and that basically doesn’t exist otherwise. Leaf is a class bigger and byd / stellantis are still $35k

I suggest to look at current BEV, for the money you are spending it is much better than an old I3. BEV are not as cheap as before, RUC except is gone. I have to drive a BEV in order to afford to drive a S85 V10 😅 But to be honest after using EV, it’s definitely different and there are positive experiences. You still get free charging on restaurants and hotels. Car is precondition, always ready, destination is set as it looks at my calendar, etc.It is definitely best transportation, then just use the M5 if I want to drive.

Yes with all this negative sentiment it will be feasible to add another M5 in depreciated price 10 years later 🤣

That generation is well known for having a dog of an engine, classic BMW N series things. High oil consumption, timing chain issues, the usual. R53 Cooper S is a better bet, with the supercharged engine.

That's gonna look good parked outside Andiamo or Elbow Room!

They are a $&@$ nightmare to deal with. Had a set of tyres held up for two weeks waiting on documentation. Countless calls to try and get things moving. Turns out they need a copy of the purchase docs so sent those through, took another three days to process. Tyres arrived and found the documents they were after where actually attached to the tyres.

I used to live on Franklin Rd. Those trees are a bitch this time of year as they drop all their leaves. You're right about one thing though - walking from that suburb is the norm. Hope you have a trickle charger for the car.

Small update: Went back to the Dyno last week with a new tune. I am now using MHD+ Multi Map, as having just one full send map isn't that useful, especially this time of the year. Map 1: 16psi made 427whp and 577nm (This map is all I need on the street). Map 2: 21psi made 476whp and 663nm Map 3: 26psi Made 565whp and 863nm. You can however see quite a nasty dip up top especially on the high power map. (that map was actually 560whp and 808nm). This is likely a vanos tuning issue, my tuner has sent another revision, but also a result of timing corrections. I flash my old tune, which is the grey line on the dyno sheet, however the power still dropped off and has a dangerous amount of torque down low (Bendy Rod zone). The car pulled a bit of timing up top which robbed power, the ramp rate on the dyno was 2x more than doing a 4th gear street pull and the load was set to heavy on the Dynapack. The timing corrections are a lot better on the street.

Wasn't the plan but it had everything I needed so couldn't say no. Yeah I've since found someone that did it so will tackle the job next time. Would love to see some pics of the finished job if possible?

Been a while since my last confession! Car failed a WOF on its clapped steering rack (play / leaking / torn boots) 3 weeks ago - hummed and hah'd about doing the purple tag swap but cert / bump-steer test anxiety and being time-poor and WOF'less currently, decided against it. Old rack was beyond a rebuild (shaft stuffed) so went with a remanufactured E30 rack from LPSR in Perth. They do new / remanufactured and used tested BMW racks of all types. Really responsive outfit and arrived in a week. Got car back today and am stoked - was a little worried I was dropping a bunch of coin for a WOF sticker and no driving improvement - it feels so much better though - tighter / smoother and even a little weightier. We also sold our little house in the burbs and bought an apartment in Freemans Bay and will be moving next week. So while the E30 will be gaining a secure covered carpark, I will be losing the ability to meaningfully DIY on it - no drama's TBH as car is well sorted now and I've never had any talent for wrenching. While I'll be doing amore walking and a little less driving, I'm looking forward to hooning around a new neighbourhood.

New job and commute is much further than the previous five minutes down the road, but thankfully against the traffic. Still daily driving this, and it’s still great. Not sure I’ve had a car that handles better…

Let’s fix the window, it’ll only take a couple of hours… Easy enough, let’s replace the door lock actuator while we’re at it… everything working on the test fit. Closed and locked my door, unlocked it and the mechanism jammed. Door wouldn’t unlatch. All of the above work is less fun to do crouched in the drivers footwell, but I did become somewhat of an expert on E36 door locks, sing out if you’re ever in the same situation! I ended up having to punch through the case and pick the lock. Shout out to @HELLBM for sourcing a replacement door lock, great to deal with as always. Good to have everything working as it should again!
