Interestingly, almost all of the 840 manual parts are still available to buy brand new for not crazy money. And although uncommon and not cheap, the V8 bellhousing 420G gearbox is still pretty attainable unlike the V12 bellhousing gearbox. I may have priced up all the parts to convert an 840 earlier this year when I was considering the project. 4.6is swap + 6 speed 840 would be wicked.

840 + 6-speed is the bees knees! but the 850csi is the holy grail of the e31!! I was told that there were six NZ new manual 840's (excl the converted one), one is de-reg and at least one is now in Oz. So having two of four remaining is pretty 'rare' in my book - if you find one, I would be keeping them, ah I mean it!! 😎

Can probably get you one if you're not in a super rush, got an E46 coming to bits slowly here and we won't need the pedal. If you find something quicker and more local go for it, we're probably a couple of weeks away from getting back to stripping this thing.

You know it’s funny. A good old friend of mine who told me me so much about BMW’s from the 70’s and 80’s told me repeatedly too that the 840’s equipped with the 6 speed manuals were so much rarer than 850csi’s ( in rhd). He was right. Only 54 with the M60 4.0, and 3 with the M62, 4.4. Our NZ new 840 6 speeds’ were even appointed with the Euro CSI body kits ( including mirrors that the Us spec CSi’s never got). I have a good friend who has 2 NZ new examples- lucky boy! I miss my 8 - it was a stunning car and only had 53,000 k’s so drove like new.

Check out Hyperdrive, seems to be plenty of options for that size. Alternatively, you could go 245/40R17 whilst retaining much of the tyre width. I wouldn't go 225 on a RWD car, not sure if they would work on a wider rim but hey, I'm not gonna tell you off either.

Spent a little time on this one over the weekend, removed the wrap and tidied it up a little. A fair few carbon fiber replacement parts are on the way, this should look a bit different again by xmas.

NZ launch happening soon. Looking forward to seeing it soon. I guess the approach does help BMW with EU co2 reduction and main target audience gets a tax offset for lease due to it being a phev. I guess it’s just a finger in the air by BMW with green washing a petrol performance vehicle. 1000 nm isn’t going to notice the weight 😀.

Took this on to Hampton Downs a few weeks back to support the Porsche Club track day. A foggy morning presented an excellent opportunity for some cool pics.

Wow so long since I posted that I forgot my password. This one has had a couple of small updates, new big brake kit has arrived, swapped on the semi slicks + e39 wheels (painted gloss white), new tune for the carbon CSL intake and had the RTAB's replaced again. Need to do a nut & bolt check then ready for the South Island tour next year. For now she's sitting pretty in the dust-free Showcase.

Lucky I 'saved' a grand on this as I had 2 punctures in my new $1k per corner tyres on the X3 and one was too seriously damaged to be repaired (by a big screw). 🤨
