You don't seem to get it. Regardless of how long you have had them, where you have been, how many times you have been stopped, or how many WOF'S you have had with them on the car, & all without incident. As mentioned above many times - they ARE illegal in NZ full stop! The font is different, along with the background reflector graphics. Also mentioned above - there have been several people that have had them confiscated after they have been identified by Police that are aware of them. It is simply a lucky dip!

I did one last week where I used a e30 urethane guibo from ireland engineering ($29us) and cut out the old munted rubber one from the e46 coupling. Cheap as and worked perfectly. http://www.iemotorsport.com/bmw/item/e30steercoupler.html

Can be done. We have a few N52B30`s and manual conversions here if anyone want`s to have a crack at this conversion.

Yeah we doing alright, no one ever tells you how hard it is and if they do you never believe them, it doesn’t help my boy has cystic fibrosis and the more severe one.. really hit home, looks like there’s a long journey ahead.... On another note I got a aeromotive fuel regulator and gauge from Paul at NZ Performance and installed it the other day it makes it real easy when the factory fuel reg is seperate from the rail. Found out when installing s50 cams with vanos delete you cannot use timing tools as it will be way out and it was, I installed the new carrier and set up the timing, I left the intake cam at .4 and set the exhaust at half the factory lift at tdc to .75 using a dti gauge and the b32 specs from cat cams, after that it ran a lot nicer.. I couldn’t help myself so I set up the link g4 and done some runs with the data logger and edited a few fuel cells, I would almost say it goes just as hard as my old engine even with a poor tune.

You can get the key cut at Armstrongs ... or any lock smith that can cut an inner track key. They charge $45 as it's considered 2 track cut (one track each side - so 4 cuts). Once that's done you can pull your EWS unit out and read the main MCU chip. You'll get a bin file to the full chip read (1K) and then do the changes there - open or lock a key, add a key, change the EWS info (mileage, vin) ... and then you write the EWS ISN password to the key transponder and car information. Very easy and simple process. I might do a quick write up if I can grab some free time. But it is not difficult to do.

I think your comments are fair and valid Glenn, you could probably take it further and forward safety aspects and the risk involved in fooling around with thing's you aren't trained to be fooling around with. The idea of an airbag going off in my face and smacking my teeth out is as worrisome as a spring compressor letting go and impaling steel fragments in my jaw or opening a hole in my cranium. It's something to think about. DIY is DIY, we could fall off a chair changing a lightbulb or off a ladder pulling leaves out of the guttering. Folk at home are still climbing chairs and ladders though. I think it's all worth a mention though. If someone is confident enough to give something a go they're going to give it a go until they realise they're out of their depth or have bitten off more than they can chew. That's generally what I do, and once the hole is dug, defeat will be admitted and it's time to pass it onto someone more skilled. It could be argued that scenario can be avoided altogether and you take your broken item to a professional to be fixed straight off, that'd be a valid point but for folks either inherent curiosity, financial necessity, or belligerent stubbornness to try fix it themselves regardless. The safety aspect should be a priority though, we should all be covering our ass somehow.

Fuggin' retrofit 3rd brake lights. Who's idea was this? From Jan 1st 1990 you must have a third brake light on a vehicle. Any car manufactured after this date and imported to NZ must have one retro-fitted. So that's BMW E30s manufactured in 1990. Not (identical) BMW E30s manufactured in 1989. I've got enough on my plate dealing with redundancy and trying to make ends meet while shipping Mrs M to the UK for her mother's funeral (we'd all go, but money doesn't allow that). So, having made the sad (not as sad as losing my Mother-in-Law, obviously) decision to sell the Baur if work doesn't turn up in the meantime, imagine exactly how pleased I was to witness the complete and utter shambles of a job which was done to fit a 3rd brake light in the middle of the boot lid. Basically - the boot lid is trash. Completely stuffed. Not only did the lid not receive any sort of prep or corrosion inhibiting treatment when the holes were gouged out of it (use the 1/2" drill bit straight into sheet metal - no pilot hole) but close inspection reveals it was creased when this was done. It's rotted across 50% of the boot lid, including rusting through. Most of the panel looked fine, but that was because corrosion from the inside hadn't broken through the outside paint. Repair is possible, but any welding is likely to distort the panel even more than it is already. So it'll be a replacement bootlid, prep, paint, paint matching... Wouldn't it be nice if others could make the effort to look after our cars as well as we will?
