We dont really use it much so might just see if anyone needs a cheap runaround car. Spent a lot of time to tidy it up and it is in pretty good condition. The engine is healthy as (19x,xxxkms) and rev's up easily. its a 1998, genuine msport, sunroof, black interior all re-done, automatic, e46 centre armrest fitted, fake alpina badges all round Not sure what its worth but would be happy with 2k or close to it. Here is a link to the thread I made when I got it.

Just got my 2001 E53 X5 back from the transmission rebuild by Automatic Transmission Repairs Ltd. Had a good chat with Zane who runs the place …and here's what he had to say: With the more modern 6-speed trans in E70s, they're coded to the car so you can't just swap in another unit. The older 5HP24 ZFs in the E53 and similar are not coded and can be exchanged with a 2nd hand unit. A BMW dealer processing a MBI claim will likely specify a whole new transmission rather than a rebuild which can be A LOT. So - better to use a reputable indy. We have seen a similar situation with the E60 550i repair quoted for the car Brett Taylor just purchased. Even if BMW says 'lifetime sealed unit' change the oil in your transmission at each interval 50-60K KMs, and only use ZF oil. This will help it last longer. A lot of the modern transmissions don't carry much oil, and don't really cool it down - and over time the oil degrades. Whatever you're doing always use the right oil, and the best oil you can. The 5HP24 is a decent transmission but you should expect a a rebuild as KMs go up. If you're getting a rebuild done, then it should be done thoroughly and using the newer iterations of the components as the 5HP24 was improved during its lifetime. After a rebuild, your vehicle it needs to go back for a check-up after 1000KMs Good guy to talk to, and he knows his stuff. Very pleased to have it back - enjoy driving it Transmission seems all good.

aaaand another one.. It needed a super good clean inside and out. The interior had the typical sagging headlining and broken glovebox missing parcel tray etc. Has been given a thorough clean now and reupholstered the headlining in nice brand new black fabric, already had the black sunvisors as it is motorsport, bought a new glovebox lid and parcel tray from pickapart and now looking much better than before. Any tips on how to restore the faded parcel tray without covering it in fabric? maybe a spray dye or something? Drivers seat needs to be stitched up and picked up an armrest centre console to install, also the stereo is held on by black electrical tape.. will need to fix that but AUX works and sounds decent! Will need to be tinted but otherwise pretty good interior wise. Only issue is windows and sunroof just suddenly refuses to work and so I need to wait a few minutes then it will work again randomly. Strange! I think it had an aftermarket alarm at some point as it makes a weird beeping noise but not sure. Exterior.. oh man, typical red paint. Hellrot, literally rotting away clearcoat on almost every panel. Overall needs some love. Front nose panel and bumper, passenger guard is the worst. few dings here and there but its ok for now. Mechanically, again typical M44, does leak a couple drops of engine oil but doesnt seem too excessive. Idles nicely and revs freely, drives quite good also. The 4 speed auto is the biggest let down, manual box would be ideal but it is what it is. Anyway, some photos!

I still recall my ex boss buying a new silver 540 Motorsport - circa 2001. I thought how incredible that car was one day when he gave me a ride to see a client. I still remember wondering how good a M5 variant of the E39 maybe if the 540 Motorsport was so impressive. What was not so incredible was how my boss tried to convince me it was a M5.!!

Had my two buckled rims repaired at Advanced Wheel Repair this week and now she’s driving 100x smoother than before! Very pleased with the results. Also would highly recommend Advanced Wheel Repair to anyone with damaged rims. Took them only 2 days to fix mine and only charged $180 per wheel. 10/10! Now time for new rubber ?

Big ups to Geoff Steel, my carbon rear cards have arrived and look awesome. These are going to look incredible once I sand down the edges, then prep & coat them in ceramic. Good Xmas project. Untitled by Christian Taylor, on Flickr Untitled by Christian Taylor, on Flickr
