Hey , Do you still need a e36 power steer rack?
-
An Easy way to check if the O2 is faulty[and causing engine to run too rich],is to solder some wires to a 1.5 volt battery and bridge it across the O2 sensor [This method is jusf for checking, I wouldn't want to do any distance on a lean running engine] But as stated before, Bypassing the O2 sensor seems to be an acceptable repair method that BMW dealerships themselves do
-
Hey Bob do you have one coming in to NZ I could be interested for a race car, are you talking US or Euro spec? give me an email Kerry
-
My O2 sensor is faulty [About $400 new] $150.00 Second hand with no gaurantee it's any good. BMW can bypass it for the same money [it's mainly there for exhaust emissions,we have no smog laws here]

You need some serious maths to do brake calculations. To do a simplified version you need to ; Corner weigh your car & get your 'Center of gravity Height' You need the rolling radius of the wheels[at the contact patch], the rolling radius of the discs [fr & rr] the Co-efficient of friction of the pads [this combined with disc radius gets brake torque] you also need the swept piston area of the front & rear calipers[in pairs] this gets line pressure, then you need the piston area of the master cylinder(s) and the brake pedal leverage ratio and pedal pressure(foot) Brakes can safely be over engineered, the limiting factor then is weight vs traction .The more G's of decceleration you get, the more front bias you need [on a race car (in wet conditions)we dial in more rear bias to prevent front lock-up caused by slower decceleration at the limit of traction] My advice is to buy the M3 brake set-up that Conrad has for sale, they are cheaper than some Racing Pads. Standard M3 Brakes [with the right pads]would be sufficient enough in a club type race-car [maybe not 24hours of Le Mans]

Call Adrian at Franklin Cams [0800 CAMSHAFT] They build up worn cams ,and grind any profile you want.[this is better than grinding the cam too much and under cutting the base circle] The Cam followers will need resurfacing as well
-
Our Local BMW Dealer can reprogramme the ECU to bypass the O2 sensor, I'm going to get it done to my car. costs about $100-$150 about the same cost as a second hand O2 sensor

Swapping a chook engine into an E36 would be cool as hell. If you don't care about resale just do it. As the Monkey said when he pissed into the cash register "This is going to run into money" Paying a professional [including Motor & Box] Could cost you as much as another E36 Beemer again. If your Car is freehold, Try and trade up into the car of your dreams [it's cheaper, and easier to pay off a car, than to save for,or restore/build one]Plus you get to use it, instead off having it in bits laying around while you use ya ol' lady's Charade. Now I've said my common sense bit. . . . . Lets look at the want factor [That E36 Twin Turbo'd Chook Engine HMMMMMMMMMM!]

I agree with Lilme, It's easy to get good handling out of a 328 [when you get closer to the limit the weakest link lets you down, Hence the M3 solution] Start with the widest, best tyres you can fit to the car. The next trick is to keep the footprint perpendicular to the road under extreme cornering, soft springs need stiff bars,and/more static negative [neg camber causes camber thrust,& tyre wear] Hard springs need less negative and softer bars [hard springs flex the chassis] High speed handling needs hard springs[higher spring frequency] and harder shocks[the shocks are bed partners with the springs] never use soft springs with hard shocks[the tyres skip bumps] never use a bar too stiff for the springs under compression.eg.cornering [the outside spring tries too compress the inside thru the bar] with handling everything is a compromise, even lowering a car has its downside, BE HONEST TO YOURSELF WITH WHAT YOU WANT, the M3 is a very good compromise. But you can dial in some of the M3 characteristics, relatively cheaply as long as you have a gameplan and good access to the right knowledge[not from some salesman selling you parts]

Try Wellington Airport, If going by the NEWS is anything to go by. The view is great

Sorry mate, I didn't read all the postings. Under the[old] Post Office Act you could risk getting an illegal transmitter [And Whatever it is Fastened to] Confiscated. I don't know if this law stands any more [but feel free to Test the law if you wish] Back in march 04 I did a road trip from Portland down to Los Angeles with a friend who used a scrambler made by 'Rocky Mountain Radar' It worked fine, But as you have mentioned thats USA not Here. If any of you techno-heads want to build a unit. Google Kenneke.com They sell plans for Radar Jammers, Cell-phone Jammers, Garage-Door-Remote Jammers Etc [for educational purposes only, yeah right] Cheers everyone. . .Kerry

On Jap Imports, The best way to wire in a Scrambler is thru a Relay switch that is activated by the speedo alarm [105kph] When you slow down to under that speed, it switches off,so the cop gets a reading. Note I use the term 'scrambler' not Jammer, these is a huge legal difference between the Two.

I was at the Beemer Wreckers the other day[birch Ave Tauranga] We got a Backing Plate off a M20 Engine and slipped it straight on to a M40

BMW Use The Same Box Behind The M20 & The M50 In The E34 [both Motors Were Available During The 1991 Prodiction Year] From What I know From US Conversions, They Tilt The Motor 10degrees To Clear The Booster In a E30 Swap. I'm Not Selling a Engine Conversion. If You Read My Ad I Am Selling Manual Conversion For a E34 With a Small Six [You Might Be An Almighty Techno Boffin, But If You Read The Ad properly,You Will Realise That a Custom Bracket is NOT Required To Put This In a E34] People Are Free To Use It For What They Wan't After They Bought It Did I Miss Something, But I Thought The Forum Rules[in the For Sale Column] Were For Posting Stuff For Sale That Could Be Of Interest To The Members Just Cleaning Out The Garage! I Have Got a Bit Annoyed With The Stupid Comments Members Have Made That Are Not Relevent To My Listing [Maybe You Should Refrain From Using Your Almighty Wisdom,& Let Other Less God Like Mortals Have A Go At Selling Their Stuff] READ THE FORUM RULES

A CUSTOM BRACKET FOR WHAT? The gearbox bolts up to a M50, The Crossmember Bolts into a E34 [Thats what I'm selling] All M20's and M50's are on the same angle [The M50 looks different because of the 24valve head, but the angle is the same] In 1991 BMW Manufactured the E34 with the M20 & the M50 engine, Both had the ZF Gearbox option [same crossmember] BMW Manufactures cars with components supplied to them from other suppliers [Getrag/ ZF etc] they design their components to use existing parts, If for some reason they did build an engine with a different angle they would adjust the drilling/machining to use the existing Gearbox [Clever Germans]
-
1990 M20,The only difference between the two, is the M50 uses a dual mass flywheel [the M20 flywheel will bolt to both] The comments I made were to eliminate those looking Manual Conversions for the Big Six. This Will bolt to a M50 as well as a M20 engine. For a E36 You need a Clutch pedal & a Rear Crossmember [the Driveshaft will need to be shortened for a E36] I have a Spare E36 Brake-Pedal Assembly I'll thow in ,[if wanted]
-
If Anyone Out Their Is Interested. I Have For Sale, One Complete E34 Manual Conversion. Included is: Gearbox and Shifter ZF5S-16 0.82 fifth gear [No Diff Swap Needed], Rear Crossmember, Gearbox Backing Plate, Flywheel, Clutch Plate, Preassure Plate, Throw-Out Bearing, Shifter Bracket Under Tunnel, Center Console Insert With Shifter Boot, Handbrake Boot, E34 Clutch/Brake Pedal Assembly,Master and Slave Cylinders, Driveshaft, All the Misc Bolts Etc You will need a pilot bearing for the Back of the Crank,& the Rubber clutch hose on the Gearbox [it's been cut] Otherwise it's all there. This set-up is for a M20/ M50 Engine I am realistic with my Asking Price of $450.00 If Interested, Ring or TXT me on (025)726071 Cheers Everyone . . . . . . . .KERRY [if I've left something out, just ask me]
-
Just do what they do in Te Puke! Stretch some Black Stockings over ya Taillights, The added bonus is you get to rip them off some 'Ho' that you picked up somewhere. Otherwise leave them stock [they look better]
-
The Dual mass flywheel is like a giant harmonic balancer [for smoothness] They don't take to lightening very well. The M20 Flywheel will bolt on [i've done it].All 318's [e36] 325's & M3's have the same diameter ring gear [290mm] If you are getting a machinist to copy one, Borrow one from a M20. If you want one for racing ,use an Auto flexplate[for the ring gear]& a Button clutch. Note all Beemer engines are internally balanced[so as long as the flywheel is balanced neutrally] it won't affect the engine balance during a swap
-
I'll have what you want in about a fortnight, I'm doing a complete running gear conversion in my E36 [the 4.11 is coming out]
-
I might have a complete 328 exhaust [from manifold to tip] available in a couple of weeks
-
Are you in any hurry? I could have a complete E36 328 [1996] that I will be "parting out" in a couple ofweeks time It has a blown Donk, I am keeping the running gear [everything else will be for sale] leather, alloys, sheetmetal etc keep me posted..... cheers Kerry

most euro cars [VW's] have 1 rear fog & 1 reverser, these dipshits are oblivious to their surroundings! They drive arround with their fogs on, giving following drivers a good look at their 60w taillight Personally I think aftermarket fogs belong in the bin, along with external sunvisers, running boards,CB/RT aerials,& mudflap with reflectors Why use fogs when you can use 130w bulbs [they look much cleaner]

Hey Guys have a good look at your stereotype V8 owner, they are generally associated [but not always] with Gangs,Westies,or Hot-Rodders[60 year old men trying to be American teenagers] They are the First to judge every non V8 owner & are very narrow minded & arrogant with their views. This is something AVESCO is cashing in on with their publicity circus/V8 show. I personally Race a V8 car ,but I try & distant myself from the stereotype V8 Beer Swilling Black Teeshirt Brigade. I love classic racing & anything with a History. Historically The RX7 is probably the most raced car in the world since it was released 28 years ago, yet it is not accepted in classic racing circles [Moffat raced one at Bathhurst] V8 owners [as well as Harley,or Beemer ,or Ferrari Etc] buy a vehicle to satisfy their emotion needs, this is something our marketing guys load our brains with [check the ad on bimmer forums] The Hot 4's editors are showing a bit of open-mindedness by publishing other vehicles [They are probably more up to date with motoring trends, than say the editors of the HotRod Magazines] One final word: ANYBODY CAN RESTORE A CLASSIC, BUT IT TAKES A REAL MAN TO CUT ONE UP! haha!
