just found out the size of the alpina wheels i have
mr E34 replied to BM WORLD's topic in Appearance
Thats good you have a staggered set Brent, (same as my car) Alpina always favoured that set up to obviously give more rear grip so the front end looses grip first etc. (understeer) E34 std fitment for the rears was 17x9.5", sounds like we both have 10" from the E32 set up. Thats a good low mileage car, everything work on it? Any faults you have found? These Alpina Classics (deep dish) are still worth a few bob. -
Good story, got a pix of the head with big valves? How did you fit 3 odd mm larger inlet valves, much alloy removed etc? Also, do you know why BMW switched to the 3430cc engine? Any advantage compared to older bore/stroke.
-
Congratulations on buying your dream car! Remember i said, be patient, you have obviously got one of the better M3's now. Well done.
-
Congrats on the E34, SORRY there is NO facelift to improve the first generation E34. You can change the front end but you cannot improve the tight narrower kidney grill, bonnet bulge etc. It is called proportion vs distortion to the human eye. MR E34.

Surely with the 3.91 the revs would be higher at 100k's, or are you just being approx? Brent said if i change the diff it can be a bit buzzy, what do you reckon? Try a 3.6 or 3.7, are any around in LSD?
-
Have you checked out Ireland Engineering in the States, have a good range of BMW parts, kits etc.
-
Any idea what diff ratio your 535is has ? Mine (late 1989) has a 3.45 and @ 100k's it's around 2200rpm, the M30 is hungry whatever ratio it has!! Later model 535is had a 3.64 i think, quicker off the line.

Hi Ivan, top condition M325i. I met you & Dad at your place a couple of years ago when checking over your cars, this red one looks superb. Where the hell did you find it?? Start a private members club over here but with that cheap gas, start shipping.

Request for the schematics. m1_3.pdf

Not happy you used my picture in the youtube demo!!!

THOUGHT THIS MOTRONIC ECU OPERATION WILL BE OF INTEREST. 1.1 WAS USED IN THE E32,(upgraded to 1.3 1988) 1.3 IN THE E34. DME_1.1_1.3.pdf Hopefully you guys can download the technical article, not sure how to change it. Also have the schematic (death star plans!) right down to component level if anyone is interested.

Offer these people $9000, been on TradeYou a while. Nice E36 with all the goodies. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-159039542.htm

Good on you Marty, you can't take it with you when your gone!Look forward to seeing a few of these worked cars.

Power without control, he who burns twice as bright lives half as long. The reason the race E30 M3 was so successful because it had perfect control with 350BHP.I'm obviously too old in the pwr stakes.
-
Why would you want 600 odd HP?? Alpina bi-turbo had 360bhp/550nm and produced 0-100k's in approx 5 sec. The strain on all the running gear would be immense, just my 2 cents dude.Mr conservative.

I would recommend Chris at the shock shop Grey Lynn, seems to be the guru on proper alignment, AAA results.
-
No point in raising the rev limit Brent, you are well past pk power and it prematurely damages the M engines.

A BMW driver leads the F1 world championship

BMW makes it's move!! Maybe Paul Rosche is in the background doing engine work??? -
Could be a home made dyno there. No argument, a know fact, dyna pack hub dyno read higher, no wheels driving roller! Roller dyno by dyno dynamics have wheels driving rollers, needs power, reads lower. They make bench engine dyno's as well, pretty good. My car had 136.1kw on dynapack, switched to dyno dynamics roller gave 128.5kw (old tune, new tune 137kw on roller) . Google hub dyno vs roller dyno if you don't believe me..
-
Hub dyno reads 7-8kw MORE than roller, those figures are probably about right for a stock engine done those k's. Torque, you are right, just divide by diff ratio & add 15% for approx flywheel.(seems to work out too high for 2.5ltr??) If you want alot of dyno figures go to Alpina Australia and check out their dyno runs on a wide variety of BMW's.

Have a read here Topcat! Interesting article. M30 Alpina engine, 261PS, approx 250-255@ flywheel if your lucky.(somehow i doubt those figures back then) NOTICE THE EXTRA HEADWORK,HEMISHERICAL COMBUSTION CHAMBERS WHICH ALPINA FAVOURED. http://www.autospeed.com/A_109805/cms/article.html

Ireland Engineering for BMW, have you looked at their site? ( double valve springs/valves etc) go to bmw other for e34 Marty, where do you go for flow bench testing of the head? http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFro...ount2=364478707

Hey Grant, had time to check out your M5 headers yet? Just interested in what they managed to squeeze in. thanks.

Looks in good nick, can't go wrong with the money you spent. Brothers turbo MR2 punches out 170kw @ wheels with bigger throttle body, re tune etc.

Clay bar is your friend, we must clay before we polish and we must polish before we wax! I could make any piece of mutton look like lamb given a few hours. Congratulations on your new car Graham, you must be positive to buy a big car in todays market. I'll take you up on the mutton to lamb job, when can i pop round??
