That was the easiest part for me. I could deal with it and just sit back and think... you silly bastard... to this day I still tolerate smoking & smokers as I don't think it's right to dictate my choices upon others... but I will offer help and advise if they wish to listen

5 Years today as of 3.00 am this morning. I was saving my 10,000 th post to mark this as a milestone to my journey and now being a non smoker. I hope others that have tried or are trying to do the same can achieve their goal.... if you haven't... just keep trying..... it is achievable

I'm taking out the passengers airbag in the Ti and mounting the Tv in the dash for the wife to watch while I track the car... just to keep her happy
-
Yes...unless there are restrictions because it's not in the car it was built to be in

What happened to the engine Tristan ??

There may also be more to the belt issue as well..... idler bearing, tensioner and sprag clutch in the alternator pulley
-
It should be obvious. One of the camshaft position sensors (2) or one of the vanos solenoids (2)

Too late now Clinton...I'd just try patching in up and get rid of it as soon as you can or sell it to a wrecker. These things are pieces of sh*t, and as I said before they recycle oil and water, they also empty pockets quicker than a pig emptying a trough full of cream. I wouldn't recommend any one buying a N42 or N46 engined vehicle unless it was new or done less than 20k and then get rid of it before it gets to 50k or 5 years old

Go to the first post. The valve is f**ked. Do you realise that changing it requires the manifold to be removed ?. Have you worked on a N46 motor ??. If not , please refrain from offering misinformation or unqualified advise. The OP has probably introduced problems with his DIY repairs. I'm quite happy to look, scan and offer advice. O2 sensors don't tolerate oil burning ( high oil consumption for long)
-
We used to do that all the time 20yrs ago

Couldn't agree more with your comments Ray. So much crap & misinformation being posted in the Forums by the same misinformed new experts we seem to have here at the moment.

Give me a call Clinton

You do not have to drop the sump. The level sensor is bolted to the bottom of the sump
-
No...... drain oil, replace oil filter, fit new level sensor in sump, refill with oil, run motor, recheck oil level....all done
-
Tensioner or idler bearings for the drive belts
-
They empty wallets quicker than a starving pig emptying a trough full of cream
-
You've never owned one of these yet.... Buy 2 & bankrupt the family

The panel is cosmetic to a large degree & supports a very strong brake vacuum pipe that can support it's self when the panel disintegrates. It will look nicer with the panel replaced.

I would say you dodged a bullet and leave it at that, 164,000km on a 4 cylinder N42 valvetronic oil and water recycler
