BMW Model Designation Master List - Pending update!!
Gaz replied to hybrid's topic in General Discussion

Keep say 10k on floating so as you pay it off and if the car breaks then you can pull some of it out to pay for the repair. I do instead of saving so I pay less on the mortgage. Have to be careful not to overspend on it however
-
What caused the old one to blow up?
-
Thanks mate, yep car is almost been rebuilt now but cheers
-
Not that there is much difference between the two, BMW NZ supplies 5w30
-
Cheers I was kinda hoping someone had one in the country however Did cross my mind as I got my last one from him so might give him a buzz
-
anyone got one lying around or where to get one new?
-
The correct oil for your car is 5W30 so none of those. Would have thought it come up on the Castrol oil finder seeing as they are the approved oil for BMW
-
LOL... genuine coil is $149 from BMW so don't know where you are getting that number from E: all N engine series are at least

Thermostat is closed until it reaches temp then opens and closes to maintain running temperature. When it is closed, the car will idle and run a little richer to help generate heat. Since the thermostat is open, there is alot more coolant to heat meaning it is slower to reach temperature and longer time spent in the 'warm up' phase
-
If the thermostat is stuck open, then in theory it should improve consumption as the idle will be lower as the engine reaches optimal running temp faster
-
I know you don't want to spend money but a scanner is going to be your most effective solution here. Otherwise you will be spending money on parts that are not needed
-
Very, especially if you are doing the coolant temp sensor as well

We sell autosure extreme (their top cover) for $1890 for 3 years cover

Coming along nicely and loving the detail in the posts.. see here for shifter play, I'd say you are right in needing a new shifter https://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/E36-Shift_Bushings/E36-Shift_Bushings_2.htm

Is the vehicle still under warranty? Be careful as you dont want void the warranty should something happen in the future. You can always request that they don't top up the fluid and do the 'extras' you don't want
-
LL04 is designed for diesels as it is low ash output
-
5w30 is the correct oil for your car and all modern Bmws expect for the M cars
-
This whole thread makes me moist....
-
Not mine obviously but solid cars, fun, plenty of second hand and aftermarket parts around
-
Scored this wee gem at pickapart yesterday
-
Looking good, where did you get the gearknob from?
-
My guess is that there must be damage to the carbon fibre core for them to write it off. As far as I know, there is only 1 place in NZ that can repair it
-
Yep, I'm like that. Had 4 sets for the e36 at one point, now down to 3 and 2 sets for the e30. Just need to find something for the e3 now
