  1. Hi Cain, The free meals was decided by the High court back in the early 90's. The High court ruled that the nautre of doctors work meant that they could not have a protected lunch break as they may have emergencies that needed to be attended. So if I bought my lunch and got called away, a doctor incurred 2 losses. 1) No lunch that was paid for. 2) Working during a lunch break. To make it simple, the high court ruled that the DHB's provide meals for doctors on duty. Trust me tho, there are many days that we never eat lunch despite it being free just because we don't have time for lunch. And most of the other times that we do have lunch, its a drug company freebie during a course, conference etc. So its less than the $2600.
  2. You sir, are a tool. I'm a Malaysian and so are many other medical staff. New Zealand's health care would collapse without immigrant medical professionals holding the system up. The General Medical team here at Waikato Hospital has among the consultant staff, = 4 Kiwis, 4 Poms, 1 Egyptian, 1 South African and 1 American. The registrar pool is more diverse. 3 Malaysians, 1 Pom, 1 West Indies, 1 South African and a solitary Kiwi. Obviously you haven't WORKED in an emergency department before and thank god for that. Senior nurses are part of our team. We need them as much as they need us to prescibe medications and assess patients emergently. They've just negotiated their pay deal for 4.2% p.a. and it has NOT addressed their recruitment and retention issues. We have just had 5 senior nurses leave Waikato hospital for greener pastures. Private hospitals, Australia, Dubai and the UK offer much better terms than what we have in NZ. So that means the ED has less manpower during busy times and we are busy. I invite you to work with us minus your prejudicial attitude. Despite this, I think a strike is probably not a good idea. I think we should be above industrial action. I knew the hours would be crap. I knew the pay would not make me a millionaire. I however did not envision working in conditions that were unsafe because of a lack of staffing. As CamB has pointed out. 70hr weeks are not unusual for a junior doctor, especially in Middlemore Hospital. I did 4th and 5th year of medical school there and it was intense. No time to fart even! Bottomline: this country's health issues are serious. We need to address retaining staff in our hospitals because if we don't, people will leave because of the workload and the fact that there isn't enough cover so leave is unavailable. It may mean pay rises. It may require other incentives. It may mean a tax break for medical staff staying on in NZ. It may mean a yearly bonus. For those who are striking, I hope you get your deal. I'll be fairly surprised if you did get 10% tho. I guess that having the Defence force staff get 10~12% for 'recruitment and retention' issues may help. Cheers.
  3. First years earn about $60K if they are on a 60 hr week scale. it takes a junior doctor about 5 years to get to $90K and the hours don't drop off. Senior docs start at $120K and move upwards to $220K (after about 10 years as a senior). I think for me the biggest bone of irritation I have is that we do 72 hrs easily but no penal rate applies unless we cross the 72 hr threshold in 7 days. So what management does is roster you for 72 hrs over 7 days(for the weekends) and you still do a 55 hr week the following week. When we do nights, we do seven x 10 hr shifts. So stay away on thursday night ok. We are shattered by then
  4. I'm a 'Junior' Doctor working at Waikato Hospital. I'm NOT a member of the Union but I work daily with my colleagues and I know the hours we all work. I'd like to gauge your thoughts on the issue as I believe there is going to be another strike next week. Cheers.
  5. Go and get some Alpine DD Drive speakers. They were $700+ and I picked them up for about $370ish. I think Yuen might have some Focals for sale too. Ask him nicely.
  6. http://www.lewistanner.com/wiki/index.php/..._are_like_Legos Everything you wanted to know about E36 and brake swaps I've investigated the 330i brake swap before and the increase in unsprung weight was quite a bit. I cannot remember how much but it was significant. Cool for looks but I believe you'll understeer like a whale with all that weight in front!
  7. would you go unconditional without a builder's report? Otherwise yeah, agree with you that if finance is sorted and lawyers are ok with title and LIM. should be all go.
  8. If you're not sure of the property's value, get a formal valuation. Not a RE agent or QV (who do not inspect the site) but one that comes out, measures the site, checks the title, lease etc. Just because its advertised at half its CV means that everything around the area has either depreciated in half or everybody else bought it when was overvalued. It may however, be an awesome buy. Ground rents. Better read this: http://www.propertytalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15471 Do your sums and see if you can afford it at todays interest rate +2%. That gives you some sort of safety margin should the market tank and the reserve bank keeps the interest rates where they are or decide to be fools and increase it!! If the valuation is good, I tend to start with my offer of about 20~15% below and work up. Go conditional pending 1) Lawyers 2) Builders 3) Finance. If in any doubt, then don't. Good luck.
  9. Why diesel for a company car? I would've thought having the company pay for the cost of petrol, something like the R36 would have been better? Glad you got the car you wanted. I would've asked for the Range Rover sport TDV8 660NM!!
  10. Its gonna be sweet. Hope it goes well for the tron
  11. So who's going? The track is nicely setup and I'll be in the grandstand opposite the first corner Who's gonna be there?
  12. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C....htm?key=867458 Low mileage with some nice goods. Not that keen on the colour tho
  13. IIRC, the E46 328i has the M52B28TU with Dual Vanos.
  14. its a dynatron and professionally installed. The AA mechanic seem to think that if an alarm drew 1.8A then its faulty as it should not draw that much. Most likely was one of the amplifiers.
  15. right. time to go to supercheap then
  16. Ok, since I've started using a beater for a daily, the BMW has been having issues with starting. Called the AA guy out today and checked car as it refused to start and battery was flat. Gave it a quick check while he was there and with everything switched off, I had a 1.8A current draw. No light bulbs, only alarm activated and it was doing that. He reckons it is either one of my amplifiers doing it but wasn't sure. Now who do I go to to get this sorted?
  17. http://www.moseneuroparts.co.nz/ Try Mosen Euro. Always helpful and will endeavour to search for you. Speak to Kerry.

  19. HossE36, I had similar issues with light output coming from a HID(Xenon) setup on my Honda. I suggest giving the light cluster a decent clean and then changing bulbs. If you go to Repco, you should be able to find Philips H1 bulbs. I use the Premium for dipped beam and Vision Plus for high beam. I'm not that convinced that you get an extra 20m in beam length but it is better than stock bulbs. Cheers.
  20. Yeah but doctors get paid less than $30 an hour in NZ
  21. But how do you turn the damn thing off if your OBC is screwed!
  22. If you're in Kuala Lumpur, Head towards Bukit Bintang and find out where Jalan Alor is and go eating at night. There's Low Yat plaza for all electronics and PC gear. Sungai Wang and Bukit Bintang plaza for clothes, cellphones etc. Lot 10 for more upmarket stuff. Shoppers paradise.... your wife will have fun
  23. Its a manual, you don't want a bloody TV in a car. That's what a house is for!
