Not liking your chances so far. M20's are notorious for warping and cracking when over heated. Take it to someone who knows what they are doing?? Where in the country are you?

There seems to be alot of moaning and groaning and whinging and whining about how much the cops are being expletive this and expletive that and a one of these and one of those. Well I just had my license suspended for 28 days. Why?? because I was being a dickhead. I was exceeding the speed limit, speeding, going stupidly fast, enjoying the scenery whizzing past at about that many km/h. I got to the top of the hill after backing off the throttle, slowing down before I get to the corner and traffic which is always there at peak hour. (Grafton gully is good like that) Looked in the rear view mirror and there was this little Bmw motorbike with christmas decorations all over it flashing, way back in the distance. Sitting in the traffic he pulls up beside my window and Politely tells me to follow him once we get around the corner. Pull over behind him and he informs me that there are a couple of problems. The first being my speed coming up the hill and secondly my car has had its warrant and registration on hold for 2 years and is in effect expired. Luckily I had been to get my warrant and registration on the car yesterday, and it hadn't been put into the system yet. I have just finished fixing it and got it back on the road. It was my first drive into work on it today. He looked at the wof sticker and saw that it was a new one and also had a current registration label. So he said ok your a good young man, BUT the speeding. Unfortunately he had to take my license from me. Ok thats fair enough. Asked where I was heading, I told him i was heading back to where I live. That's a long way is there someone nearby who can come and collect you? No officer all my family live a long way from here. Hrmmm it would be a bit mean to make you find your way home from here. I'll follow you home. Thank you very much mister police man. Half an hour later he pulls into my driveway behind me and we start yacking away about Bmw's and silly speeding episodes we had done over the years, his past tickets for speeding and losing his license and lucky escapes from the eye of the law. Gave me the paperwork took my license, and off he went on his merry little way. It would be pleasant if the rest of the police force was like that man. I havn't started this topic to encourage slagging of the police force, instead I have started it to Thank the Police for doing a job in which there is a high chance of being killed, especially in today's society. So please do not start bagging them in replies to this, Instead tell us your pleasant experiences with them. So yes today I would like to thank that police man on the motorbike who caught me speeding and took my license off me, because I was breaking the law. He was kind enough to let me continue home to save me the expense and hassle of having to have the car transported home again or some one to come and collect me, and the compliment on my cars. Thanks

If it got that hot, sorry to say it but you may be in serious trouble. Problems which it could be.. Waterpump - doesnt have to be leaking for it not to be working, might be a plastic impeller water pump. They usually break. Thermostat - possibly broken Radiator - blocked restricting flow Viscous Fan - worn, not cooling engine down Airlock - could be possible - had it been losing any water in the previous weeks prior/ or had the cooling system been drained and refilled? Blown head gasket - if it hasn't already expect it soon, they don't take too kindly to high temperatures and that much pressure buildup. Oil in the radiator (milky looking stuff or on the dipstick?) Cracked/warped head - there is a chance the head could have cracked/warped after it has over heated this badly. Advice - STOP driving it you may be able to salvage the engine before you cook it completely. Get it looked at by someone who knows what they are doing. Otherwise expect to start selling the car in parts or a replacement engine. What model engine is it? M20 (single cam) m50 (twin cam)?

This type will work Graham, I've got ICV's to fit it. One thing I'm wondering about though is where the power steering reservoir is located on the 325i, is it the same place as the 320i?? Can some one with a 325i please take a quick shot of where their power steering reservoir is for us

How on earth do you break a hand brake?? *mind veers off on many different tangents*

Woohoo 1 hour and 45 minutes this afternoon. I am so thankful I wasnt in an e30. people were almost literally fighting for carparks on the side of the motorway with steam billowing out of their bonnets. It was literally a third lane for overheaters. If the signs say use the old highway USE IT god damn I wish I had. I was trapped and I couldnt escape, I wanted to punch myself in the face and in my nose and eyes and ears and bash my head on the steering wheel and pillar and wind my window up on my fingers and slice my fingers open on those annoying plastic covers with the really sharp edges underneith the seat. GARRRR Those enima's trying to do u-turns at the otherside of the tunnel into the gridlocked traffic heading back towards Orewa. And motorbikes god damn freaking motorbikes. I am usually quite respectful of motorbikes as I roam the streets on a scooter and know it is hell out there, but god dammit not today. I had a truck and trailer unit in front of me and another one beside him in the left hand lane, taking up most of the lane as trucks tend to do. The motorbikes come zooming up in the middle of the two lanes get beside me almost taking my side mirrors off and can't get past the 2 trucks so what do they do.... they get on their horns..... MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP f**kING MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. Your in my lane twat face beeeping your horn right in my ear, your obviously not going to get between the trucks and come out the other side alive try go on the outside of one of them but noooooooo they just sit there beeeeeeeeeeeeeeping their high pitched horns continuosly to the point I was going to explode so inevitably to shut them up I take command of my lane again and try and sandwich the f**kahs into the car next to me who is doing the exact same thing as I am doing at a pace of about 0.000275km/h like everyother retard who didnt turn off like the sign said to do. then FINALLY out the otherside and the motorbikes fighting their way through the gridlocked traffic heading the other way zooming up the queue on my side of the road into traffic head on and are trying to get back up to highway speed, I wanted to punch them in the face. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST MY NUMBER ONE MOST HATED HIGHWAY DRIVING CRIME - THESE DRIVERS NEED TO BE SHOT.. travelling at 50 f**king km an hour along a clear straight highway no cars ahead of them, get to a corner and BRAKE dropping down to almost idle speed. I'm sure the lady in the brand new honda accord was the reason why i had just sat in an hour and 45 minutes worth of traffic. I will NEVER take that tunnel north ever again. I will continue the fun enjoyable drive around the big windy hills, just like how life used to be with hopefully a few less dickheads who will be busy fighting against all the over heating enima's on the greatest motorway upgrade since man started wiping his ass with toilet paper. If there happens to be traffic that way, oh well never mind its how its always been and its still free. OOOOooh thats such an angry post I need to go to sleep I am grumpy.

Yes that was fortunate, but none the less he has obviously been watching the road safety campaigns, stopped to have a break, driving is definitely in his blood But ahem yes wait a few more years young grass hopper. Someone needs to give him an E30. Poor young man had to slum it in a cefiro he's lucky the car didn't crash itself.

Just having a quick gander through the news and found this article. All I can say is CLASSIC.. give this young man a License. Seems like he's a better driver than most people, he actually noticed the vehicle behind him and pulled over to "let them pass". My number 1 pet hate when driving.. slow drivers holding up traffic and not pulling over to let people pass (not that he was going "slow" by the looks of things). Have a read and a laugh. Ten-year-old boy goes on 100km joy-ride in mother's car Sat, 24 Jan 2009 8:02a.m. A 100km joy-ride by a 10-year-old boy in his mother's car came to a stop only when he pulled up at a service station and had the keys wrestled from him. Scott Rickit, who had never driven before, shocked other motorists by driving the Nissan Cefiro on State Highway 3 between New Plymouth and Awakino after taking the keys and rolling the car out of a driveway so as not to be detected. He then started the engine and went on a road trip, having learned to drive by watching his mother, the Taranaki Daily News reported. During the December 20 joy-ride, Scott, who is only 1.3 metres tall, said he drove at 100kmh and overtook other vehicles. "There were no oncoming cars, though," he said. At one stage he said he noticed a van following closely so he stopped at the top of Mt Messenger to let the driver past, but was instead approached by him. "I told him I don't talk to strangers, then I just planted my foot and he couldn't catch me." Scott continued on until the Junction Service Station at Awakino, where he stopped for a break and was stopped from continuing by the manager, Julie Robertson. Ms Robertson she called 111 when she saw what was happening and managed to grab the keys off him. A local police constable then turned up and found Scott sitting in the car. Police then arranged for his mother to come and pick him up - something he said he felt was not necessary. "I was going to come back anyway. You've got to eat, you've got to come back for something," he said. His mother described him as a good boy. "It is just when he goes and does silly things". She was angry about the incident but relieved no-one had been hurt. NZPA

My cars are Insured with State, I didn't choose them that's my Brokers job. Each time I have had to claim they have been very good, no problems easy to deal with. One of my cars got smashed into yesterday while I was at lunch, came out to find the front crunched in, the other driver did a runner but luckily a taxi took the rego details down, went and stalked down the owner of the E60 BMW who crunched my poor wee lil E36 and took photo's of her already freshly painted bumper (albeit not a very flash repair). She looked very frightened with me standing behind her car taking photos of her "repaired" bumper. Got her details from her. Rang my insurance company this morning, car is in the shop tomorrow to have the front replaced. They were fine with using the repairer Team McMillan recommended. I don't know how the situation would be if I hadn't taken the action I took to track the driver down, I'd be expecting to have to fork out the excess if I hadn't been to find the vehicle with camera in hand. My previous claim where a truck and trailer unit parked on my back seat after we both tried to avoid a car who decided to make a left turn from the right hand lane at the last minute. My brakes worked fine, the trucks however didn't quite stop him in time. Unfortunate for the truck driver not his fault and he wasn't charged but was very shaken, poor chap wasn't expecting to see someone climb out of the car, the driver of the other car however was pulled over further up the motorway and they were charged. But same service from State who paid out in just over a week at the agreed value plus all the equipment that was in the boot of my car. My Only gripe was it took a bit long for the assessor to come out to write the car off so I could be paid out. I'm sure like everything there are mixed opinions on State Insurance. But I have had good dealings with them.

Oh yes sorry for the Hijack. I want to see this too :{

Heh dad said the same thing about the hilux's which he uses for work, Utter rubbish he hates them heh but that is no surprise. I've heard good things about the old patrols. That training course sounds like a lot of fun. Would probably be quite beneficial for all of my family to do it. The more confident drivers usually go for a drive up into the hills, up some quite muddy tracks and rivers. There's always a couple of winches and stuff to help if needed. And always safety in numbers. I wonder how many times we would have been able to get out of or avoid situations we've been in knowing some of the things you went through on that course.

Interesting... my family have done a bit of sand dune climbing over the years with our regular camping spot an hour and a half trek up what used to be a forestry track and then down over sand dunes out to the coast. It can get quite demanding towing huge trailer loads with boats and supplies for our 3 week camping missions. We have always had mitsy Pajero's from the mid 80's right up to the current model. We were VERY disappointed in the off road performance of the latest models from our 2003 model and also the 2007 model. All of our previous pajeros were legendary, hauling bogged down landcruisers still tied to the stupid isuzu bighorn it was trying to pull out. Vroooooooooom red line her and haul them suckers out. Landcruisers are still good machines though HOWEVER the latest models of the pajero's quite frankly don't cut the mustard, engines... yes they are capable, driveline no, tug of war in the mud with the same tyres on each the old 1993 2.8l hauled the 2003 3.2l back in its tracks... Mum bought a VW "Toe-rag" and we laughed at her... Initially... it by far out does the newer pajeros, in every way, comfort, build quality, off roading capabilities ....the little we have done while mum hasn't been around The comfort and build quality was no surprise typical euro but the climbing, pulling and mud was a huge surprise. The old man has been very bias towards the pajeros from his 20+ years of driving them and giving them hell trying to break them. He is now on the lookout for a Touareg to replace his latest lump-o-lard pajero. It is no surprise then that mitsy has fallen from fame in the Paris Dakar. But I will still drive the hand me down 1993 mitsy pajero and pull everyone out of the sand, dad included until he gets his VW.

I have for sale a Black E34 525i 1990, Tinted windows, Lowered on Jamex superlows, 17" schnitzer style alloys, Auto, tidy cloth interior, NON sagging roof lining. All major mechanical work just completed (2 weeks ago), Cambelt/waterpump/headgasket/oil service etc. The Cambelt broke on previous owner, I bought the car and replaced bent valves/guides/rockers/headgasket/headbolts yaddi yaddi yaa. Paint is not perfect nor is it badly damaged. Slight fading on the roof which would only be noticed by the person washing it, apart from that a few small dents on the body in various places and a crack on the rear bumper, nothing major. Suspension and steering is nice and tight, No 90km/h shimmy. Has a nice rumble tone to the exhaust. Smooth gearshifts no slipping hot or cold. Happy to provide an engine replacement warranty for the buyer if it stays in Auckland. Overall a nice tidy car in excellent mechanical order, presents herself well but is definitely not a showroom supermodel. Looking for around $3500, Gimme a call/text/PM whatever if interested, make me an offer. 0212114727 - Lance

Here is one of the photo's I took of your car It was scary to work on I've never wrapped a car up in blankets so much as to not make a single mark on it when I dropped the engine in. The blankets however weren't needed as I work with such precision, btw did I leave my sledgehammer in your engine bay by any chance???

In the 3rd photo it looks like there is a grass center verge thing separating the flow of traffic. It looks like there is a car driving on the wrong side of the road?? Could be they are being extra extra sneaky and hiding the hidden speed camera behind a tree and snapping the rear number plate of the cars, assuming it is in a country where they drive on the right hand side. The photo with the police inspecting the wheelie bin, the wheelie bin in that photo is one of the half size ones where as the other photos are full size bins and a different shade of green.

Heh first spin outs hrmmm. Mine was down in Chch about 7 years ago, coming up to a busy intersection in the rain, hit the paint markings on the road felt it starting to swing, thought ooooh this is going to be fun, turned into it and gave her a bit too much titty and ended up facing the cop sitting back on the other side of the intersection. DOH! reverse to the side of the road with him flashing his lights at me. He was very nice to me, I find the hysterical OMG WTF OMG OMG OMG I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE ANY MORE ITS SCARY act works a charm. Ah back in the days. Now I like to think I've grown up a little more, speedway racing taught me a lot and now I have a lot more respect for cars and driving sensibly on the roads. Its amazing how much damage and injury you can sustain from being in a purpose built fully roll caged car and harnessed in not doing huge speeds and you hit the wrong thing i.e a dirt bank or ditch or another car. It definitely made me think twice about my road driving and the speeds I was doing after seeing ambulances carting people away. BTW an e30 316's ate the whole 2litre and under class for breakfast out on the dirt oval. But then the engine seized on the last race of the day The young guy driving made it look effortless sitting on the very outside of the track pottering around the rest of the field. I have wanted to build one to race ever since.

First of all i would check the ICV - pull it off give it a squirt with some carb cleaner Second check for vacuum leaks - listen for any hissing, wriggle hoses round see if the idle changes at all Third AFM - try swap it with another if you have a friend with one you can try.

Ahem back to the original topic.. I believe you have a complete defense under under Section 102(1) of the Land Transport Act which states: Appeal to Police against impoundment of vehicle (1) An owner whose motor vehicle has been seized and impounded under section 96 or section 96A may appeal to the Police against the seizure and impoundment on the grounds that— (f) if section 96(1A) applies, the owner did not know and could not reasonably be expected to know that the operator of the vehicle would contravene section 22A(1) or (3) (whichever applies); I would suggest that you have a good read of this act and base your defense accordingly. Here is a link Land Transport Act I trust that you were not aware that your car was going to be used to contravene section 96. If you had any knowledge that it was going to be used for that purpose I would take great pleasure in putting spikes through your tyres if I ever got the opportunity. Otherwise good luck in getting your car back. PM me if you would like any further advice from someone who has had experience in a somewhat similar situation to yourself. AND DON'T LEAVE YOUR KEYS LYING AROUND. tut tut

After numerous requests to buy this kit I have decided to put it up for auction, No idea what its worth and will probably kick myself after it goes. But I will probably not get around to using it before it accidentally gets run over or stood on. If you want to make your E34 stand out from the rest then this will do it. I know it wont be up to every ones taste but it gets the green tick from myself. I didn't take photos of it while it was still on the car but have found some photos of what it looks like on other cars to give an indication of what it looks like. Its not perfect and needs some repair but it will be an easy fix. Unfortunately I do not have the front which is another reason why I will not be using it. Link to Auction
