evo4 overheating

Are you lot that slow or just trying to stir sh*t? if a mod asks you to do something, do it. No need to be a smart-ass about it, we dont want to see drivel like this on the forum. Don't let this sh*t start up again please.
2. Nothing is bolt on, but can be made to fit with a little effort. That said for the power levels we're talking here stock brakes will be fine if they are well maintained with good pads. I would be seriously questioning the quality of a $400 stainless manifold. I'm not saying its definatley rubbish, just expect a few problems with it if you do buy it.
3. ^ As he's said you can only really use the b25 stuff with other b25 gear. the pistons are too different. Your b23 head wont work with the b25 pistons. The only part you can really use is the 325i loom, ecu and associated timing gear. The ecu should still be chipped to get the best out if it if you went the stroker route. Could run lean otherwise. Or by a wrecked 325i and swap everything thing and be done with it. I'm running Megasquirt on my L-jet M10, the guys to deal with are DIYautotune.com. you can hunt around and find stuff a little bit cheaper for one off items but overall they are pretty well priced and excellent service. It is a steep learning curve and not for everyone but definatley worth looking at.
4. There was a big port version of the 323i head, i think this is for the last of them, ie 85 model year. AFAIK its still the same head design, just larger ports, maybe valves too. That would be the ideal head for the B27 bottom end.
5. Waste of time putting a 320i head on a 323i as they're the same, and 325i head isn't designed to work with your pistons. If I was in your shoes I'd be looking at the 2.7L bottom end from a 525e. The head off your 323i will work great with that bottom end. The L-jet ECU is a POS that can't be chipped so you should ideally switch to Motronic management from a 325i and get a chip for a 2.7L motor. An aftermarket ECU such as link would work but not worth the cost unless you had serious mods planned. If your feeling brave you could give Megasquirt a go, its pretty easy to wire up fuel only for L-jet cars, and you get rid of the flappy padle AFM. MS would run you roughly $600 to get it running.
6. it would be his business, high end car detailing
7. are the head bolts TTY? I've read conflicting info on that? Tastic, I did the same thing a while ago, just pulled apart a dead M10 for spares, the things are bloody basic, nothing tricky about them (AFAIK) at all Gotta ask why put it back together if your trying to sell your car though? I doubt a semi rebuilt M10 would fetch much past what it cost you in bits. Pull it apart, see how they work, then give me left over bits so I can choose the best for my stroker turbo build.
8. e30's are sweet with no power steer, only bad thing is the slow rack. and tyres are too small for the rims, probably to fit under the guards
9. check that, pretty sure mine aren't sealed. May have only been the US cars that were

E30 vs. E36

pah, I got 4 years out of my e30 before I started f**king with it, at 250000km I might at. the e36's in our family have had far more problems at half the mileage. In my 50000km of ownership my e30 has never left me stranded. yea i've broken sh*t but its been my own fault and still got me home. I noticed that too, your posts are becoming much less pedantic and annoying. sort it out, every forum needs a resident a**hole.

WTB: E39 520i

you have to work the lower powered models harder so you dont actually get much more fuel economy, comes much more down to driving style. as others have said go for 523i or higher

E30 vs. E36

I agree the E36 is a "better" car but its bloody boring (at least the lower models anyway). As a daily driver in a city they're fine but an e30 is much more fun for a blat in the weekend or round a track- depends what you want from a car. Looks is completely subjective too, both are a bit ugly stock but the right wheels and suspension can make both look much better. If I dont get a work car at the end of the year Im considering getting a second car, most likely to be a E39 528i, e36 just doesnt really do it for me.
13. Very interested in this, I want to go a similar route with my build, larger cam, reasonable compression, bigger valves should all mean higher HP with less boost as you say. Where did you source the oversize valves? Care to share a bit more on the specs? eg cam profile? i take it you just going to run with stock pistons? otherwise what made you go with 9.3:1 cr?
14. Only up to a certain point. The manifold design plays a huge part in the power delivery of the motor. Logs are fine for a quick spooling street car with a limited top end. Anyone wanting to make serious power probably wont be using a log style manifold. Yes the turbo is a bottle neck, especially if its undersized, but the manifold still has a huge effect on the turbos response and power potential. Then theres thing like split pulse designs, which are very tricky to do with a log style manifold. Theres more to turbo exhaust systems than just flow. I dont think there'd be a huge amount left in those turbos on the 335i, they are pretty tiny - designed for instant response. Surely you'd agree that a tubular mani with big single turbo is capable of much higher outputs than those little butt plugs.
15. Hi guys, I'm upgrading the cooling system in my car. I've got the radiator, just need the header tank for it. I know the e30's had two different ones, I need to mount mine on the L/H side, which I believe is the FL one. I'm not sure if I have the mount for this though, how does the factory one mount up? I can weld on the factory mount if needed, or make up something similar. or seeing as its likely to be custom anyway, does anyone know of another car that runs a similar style tank and is a bit smaller? Mike

mtech 1

it all fits fine
17. I do agree up to a certain point a log manifold is perfectly fine, and in some cases necessary. however I still say that DA one is pretty bad, would cause all sorts of flow disruption. There are far better solutions out there than that.
18. Are you suggesting that this hold no advantage over that DA one: I know what I'd rather be running... http://www.fiatforum.com/cinq-sei-technica...ry-garrett.html That link is mostly on the exhaust but: There is no way you can say that that DA manifold will keep up gas velocities, keep cylinder reversion balanced, or keep equal pulse arrival at the turbo. and lastly: BMW's turbo F1 engine, I dont see them f**king round with POS log designs?
19. Flyingbrick have new MC's for $130US, I didn't think it was worth going second hand at that price.
20. Hmmm, I like mine becuase of all the work I've done to it. screw the original stuff, half my car isn't original 318i anymore. It sucks around town in chch (can't do anything with it) but its pretty badass when the roads open up.

Option 823?

I think its a larger radiator, maybe a few other bits and pieces too. Don't quote me on that though
22. I thought about doing mine in solid works but decided it was far too much effort working out space constraints, and even modelling the thing. Besides, I'd be very surprised if I could build the thing exactly how I'd modelled it. That said, it would give you an idea of what materials were needed, and any potential problems. I just found it easier to sit the flanges where I wanted them and work my way out from each port. I did my wastepipe the same way, theres no way I oculd have accurately modelled my way between the block and around the steering column.
23. Nick, may have been the name change, you went with M325i for a while? or have I got you confused with someone else?

89 318 coup

many people have done the swap, there will be a bit of playing with wiring but shouldn't be too bad as you'll have everything you need from the 325i. Quite a few other bits as well you should swap over too like suspension (front struts and sway bars), brakes, entire drivetrain (driveshaft, diff, and axles) as the 325 stuff is a bit bigger and stronger. It is a bit of work to do it properly, and you could take the chance to do a bit of maintenance too, but if the 318 body is mint you'll have a pretty nice ride when its all done. also- people appreciate it if you spell and write properly on here, you'll get much more help if you do.
