  1. I agree with the others, leave it alone. I wouldnt even bother lowering it unless you planned to put bigger wheels on it. The Mtech suspension sits at a good height and already catches on certain driveways etc
  2. I like the car but who else thinks its a crap colour? Opinions welcome...
  3. Since you asked how to resize so politely I'll point you to a sticky... http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....showtopic=24844 Mods arent going to start resizing pics because people cant be bothered, we'd be here all day. Mike
  4. newb question - is there a reason its all been TIG'd? (from what I can see anyway). ie is that standard practise for roll cages, or the type of bar you've used etc? Just thinking MIG would have been fine in some if those situations and been cheaper/quicker for no real loss. Is all looking very cool though
  5. Are M325i any bigger than normal 325i or just an old wives tale? I always thought they were the same mechanically (with exception of LSD), as they dont have any more power I dont see why BMW would make halfshafts bigger on a car for the tiny NZ market. Unless of course they came off another model?

    Kaynes 550i E34

probably not but V12 is much more badass than v8 so I'd live with it
  7. Pretty sure you're going to be placing some parts of you body under the car if he intends to do a half decent job of it
  8. you can use the factory jack to lift the car up but make sure you have axle stands under the car before you take the wheels off or go under the car. jacks can and sometimes do fail. borrow or buy some axle stands if you have to.
  9. Jono is one of the forum sponsors. Give him a call and see what he can do for new tyres
  10. how much more would M60 V8 weigh over M20? M60 is alloy block vs M20 iron block, anyone got the figures?

    Gran Turismo 5

Settle children, its only a game.
  12. black ones been painted. There might be a couple of oddball cars (hi-comp/alpina mods etc) out there but generally no engine difference between M325i or 325i
  13. +1 i prefer style 5's on e34 anyway

sort of - the dealers in chch picked up some really minor stuff but also missed things like A/C not blowing cold, broken interior trim + more I cant remeber so definately check the car out yourself before you buy 16:9 screen in nice too, the 4:3 screen in pre f/l's looks ugly and I'd prefer one without the screen
  15. yeah that was a few years ago. It also depends who you get on the phone. Its happened to me before and other people where you call up one day and they'll happily give you a quote. Call the next day and someone else decides they wont even insure you
  16. I'm surprised AMI didnt insure you. I didnt have too many worries getting my old turbo e30 insured through them which had a heap of mods. All in my own name and while I was under 21 too edit: that was only 3rd party, fire + theft though.
  17. ^ same here, they're not cheap though. Have any mates working for panel beaters? they might be able to get you a better price, specially if you're going to be buying a decent amount

    M325i vs SR20DET.

^ I agree. I'd sort out a proper thermo switch for it.
  19. very very cool. How much more work is involved with the S54? How would time/cost compare to installing then modding an S50 up to the similar power levels? ie is it worth the extra 16kW or more to it than that?
  20. do you expect to learn how to turbo a car, on the cheap in a single thread on a car forum? no chance. but, some actual advice for you... Theres a saying- Cheap, Fast, or Reliable. You can pick 2 from that list. You've said you want cheap so its either going to be slow, or break all the time. And if its cheap you dont want to be showing it off. You can get away with the standard ecu on low boost setups, look at bigger injectors or RRFPR as band-aid solutions. intercooler pipes will all have to be custom made. you can hunt around for off the shelf exhaust manifolds but someone will still have to make you up a waste pipe. then there are oil feeds and drains, water lines too. clutch will probably need upgrading, so will cooling system. you'll want gauges to keep and eye on it all too. standard 14" tyres will be useless so count on putting wider rims into the mix too. You can do turbo setups on the cheap but going from your first post you need to read a LOT more. research. research some more. then keep researching. then if you still have questions ask us. the info is all out there if you really want to do it.
  21. I see that being the key word here. to me loosing the rear for a second or 2 is not sustained. If anything it would be careless or reckless driving, depending on what actually happened.
  22. has anything really changed from 30 years ago? I've heard all sorts of stories about my own and other friends parents getting up to mischief when they were young. I actually dont think theres much of a maturity level change once your 18 to 20 something, at least nothing has really changed with my group of mates over the last few years, just seems we can afford it more now. Lastly, I've just finished travelling after 6 weeks and pretty much any country with english as a first language has the same binge drinking culture (NZ, Aussie, Canada, US, UK, Ireland) I do support the rule though as 18's will still know over 20's to buy at off-license for them but will be much harder to 14 y/o to get hold of it
  23. I know what you mean, all they really need is some tweaking with the nav stuff and a/v and some wheels.
