  1. okay not really a build thread or showroom thread worthy, but I really wanted to post this just to get on the nerves of the 3 pedal brigade on the forums haha ... jokes : P My latest (completely pointless and useless) mod - just because. Actually the purpose of this thread is to see if anyone has the ability to scan and reproduce this for the masses in NZ.
  2. Nope ... they are pretty cheap as it is and I am selling at cost.
  3. The real M engine it should have had rather than the fake M hairdresser's one that it came with. Thumbs up from me.
  4. I shall grab one out of a wreck then and have a look. It most certainly looks doable. I would of course only do this "at cost" - it's more a hobby for me than a money making thing.
  5. Okay have the part number for this part .. .and it turns out it can be from any of the following vehicles : ) E46: E46 330d Saloon, Europe E46 330d Touring, Europe E46 330xd Touring, Europe E46 330xd Saloon, Europe E83: E83 X3 2.0i SUV, Europe E83 X3 2.5i SUV, Europe E83 X3 3.0i SUV, Europe E83N: E83N X3 2.0i SUV, Europe
  6. After the inner control module holder scaffold found in the E46 M3 control unit box (Actually I believe now that the ones from the Diesel car is also the same as these have the same size DME unit as the M3). Must have no broken tabs that hold the control units in. (the cream white piece in photo below)
  7. Not from my experience. 41.0 seems to be quite easy to read and rewrite. Any ways ... have been toying around with EWS recently and I am reasonably certain now that I can Virginise EWS modules (up till 3.3) - This will allow used EWS modules to be paired with DMEs missing one and new key transponders made. Looks like I'll be able to do the following: MS41.0 - EWS delete MS42.0 - pair with new EWS module and key transponder MS43.0 - pair with new EWS module and key transponder Looking into CAS systems now also but the tooling for these are fairly expensive, so we shall see as this is turning into a rather expensive hobby with all the tooling LOL!!!
  8. Have never opened one of those up before and I am hesitant to do stuff for pay if I am not 100% I can do it. Will grab a wrecked cluster to practice on first or unless someone is keen to lend me one first to have a look. My understanding is it is not constructed too differently to the E46 cluster so repairing them shouldn't be an issue.
  9. You are right, I am aware you can buy the inlays from Europe and I have one but it is just not quite the same ... And yes I can disassemble these without damage and reinstall the needles and recalibrate them correctly. It is mainly because it is the only one missing from my collection : P From top down: USA version Europe version Early Europe version
  10. Okay Great condition E46 M3 instrument cluster with the all important M track mode light (and ability to run CSL digital oil level indicator if you run CSL software). Wiped back to 0km with proper tools (checksum corrected with no errors). Able to code for any new VIN number (will happily assist and input this for any purchaser) $300 or will do a straight swap for any NZ new E46 M3 instrument cluster. Note - this has miles and km/h indication. GUARANTEED NO TAMPER DOT!!!!!! I can assist in getting rid of this. Great upgrade if you run the older style instrument clusters WITHOUT the M track mode light or CSL oil indicator cluster software (note ONLY works if you run a CSL DME). Also I can now repair basically all E46 clusters (faulty LEDs ect) - so just ask : )
  11. Still looking ... Can be faulty or broken ... just needs to be the KM version.
  12. No the manual ones are missing the smg indicator screen and you can't add to it.
  13. Still looking - bump (SMG LCD should indicate "N" not "0" when in neutral).
  14. I own cars of all 4 main systems currently available to the mass market - full three pedal 6 speed manual - SMG2 automated 6 speed - Tiptronic 6 speed auto - 7 speed DSG wet clutch And to be honest each system has its own purpose and does them pretty well. The arguments being thrown up are as valid as saying Blondes are better in bed than Brunettes, but none are better than your sexy little Thai hooker. Drive whatever floats your boat - not one system is perfect, bar the F1 seamless shift dog boxes - I'll have that over any manual any day.
  15. Actually you need to update the checksum on two things not just on the motorola chip (BMW coding side) but also the Bosch side which controls the board (well actually that depends on if it runs a NEC chipset or an Infineon chipset). But that's all a little bit moot as once you wind back the mileage back to zero and put the cluster into "code" mode you can just use the factory tool to recode the cluster and it'll do all that for you. Like I said, it can be done quite easily if you know what you are doing.
  16. No you don't .... I can wind the speedos back and change all the info needed with the eproms onboard (even the Motorola chips). You just need the right tools and know how. I've actually been tempted to do a write up on it - not to teach people on how to clock their cars, but more to what to look out for if it has been clocked

    UK M3

I am just going to leave these photos here ... these came out of a "low mileage" M3 CSL from the UK - the shocks still work perfectly, but I wouldn't put them in the car except for some LOL'd (I had to smash the top mounts off the rear shocks as the rust was so bad it had fused to the shock shaft) I've also seen a CSL from the UK with virtually delivery KM but driven through one winter ... and it already had rusts on exhaust flanges, mounts and anything that was alloy, mild steel and exposed beneath the car.. Moral of the story, check each car out thoroughly!!!
  18. Needs to be from late 2002+ car. Back of the cluster cover should be a light grey colour. Km doesn't matter as I am experimenting with it. Must be SMG
  19. Have successfully flashed new modified file for the MS41.0 ... have sent the DME off to the owner to test! Fingers crossed I haven't screwed things up LOL!! Although technically everything is reversible. Ray have also kindly donated a DME for me to play with - although surprisingly this one doesn't read out as easily as the other one I had - very strange (full dump basically stops at 61% of memory - maybe faulty?? I shall need to look further). In other news, have had a chance to have a quick comparison look into the Evolve Tune on the MSS54 .. needless to say I am impressed!! The tune is VERY extensive from what I can gather - unlike the Superchip tune which seems to manipulate knock control more than anything else the Evolve tune is by far and most a PROPER tune, which involves virtually every single main table there is in the DME (from ignition to fueling to intake air scale, knock control, throttle curve ect and if I read correctly Vanos also) - So much so that any hope of me transferring what they have done to another software version is probably next to none given my limited knowledge and skill sets on this. Yet to test it on a real car however - although reading the graphs it has lead me to believe that this tune maybe based on a modified engine with non-OEM cams (the extra fueling seems too high for stock cams). Interesting though.
  20. I don't think he knows that you are an E36 M3 enthusiast/expert. Cut the guy some slack. I am sure like you've said he got burned on that import - thinking 'holy sh*t, that's one cheap E36 M3' only to realise on import that it is anything but the real deal. The market will determine it's value I am sure ... but I'd rather this and then do a conversion, over buying a reshelled E36 M3 that you see so often pop up for sale for much much more money.
  21. I hate to state the obvious Dave ... but what were you expecting when you walk into a car dealership and tell them no one will buy that car? Sit you down give you a massage then wine and dine you and say you are absolutely right? I actually personally quite like the LHD. For sake of argument ... what's wrong with buying this for say $8K .. rip the motor out and sell for $500 (surely someone would buy it), buy a proper S50B3X and do a conversion (what are these kits going for these days?? $5K??). You'd still have a fairly cheap M3 with the WBS VIN and the proper heart it was suppose to have. Not liking the colour change on it though, but for a track hack probably worth it?
  22. Decided to make my own connector wire rather than use the adapters from the kit. Also made my own IAT relocation wiring for the stack modification (what a bitch to put those weather dust boots on!! All OEM BMW parts used)
