So far the Mini Coupe Concept has gathered a positive reaction from those who have seen the pictures prior to the actual unveiling scheduled for the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. We’ve also seen a fuzzy spy shot of the Mini Roadster Concept that will debut alongside the coupe. We reported last week that BMW plans to put the Mini Coupe into production within two to three years. Well, according to sources that spoke with BBC, a production version of the Coupe along with the Mini Roadster is more than certain. Sources told BBC that BMW will add 1,000 jobs at its Oxfordshire plant to build two new models for the Mini brand. Separately, Jim McDowell, Mini USA president told Automotive News that the Mini Coupe concept has received positively so far. “We think we have a good idea, and we want to get people’s reaction to it,†said McDowell. “If there is a great response, as I predict there will be, I think you will see it going into production.â€

BMW is just a few thousand unit sales away from taking the No.1 spot from Lexus as the largest luxury automaker in the United States. “We’re really breathing down Lexus’ neck,†said Jim O’Donnell, CEO of BMW Group’s North American sales operation. â€We were slightly ahead of Lexus (in sales) until July. But we expect business to pick up and have a strong fourth quarter. We could catch them.†For the first 8 months of 2009, BMW has sold a total of 129,176 units, while Lexus has sold 131,469. Analysts say that BMW has been working hard to expand its lineup with new product offerings such as the new BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo. “That’s really helped them close the gap with Lexus,†George Augustaitis, a market analyst with CSM Worldwide in Northville told the Detroit News. Lexus has been the top selling luxury automaker in the U.S. for the past 9 years.

Yep -
-
Exactly - its cause ze Germans spell it funny but still say Beamer when they write bimmer.
-
The OBC had the option to change OBC units - but not the dash.
-
Hello - Any of you E39 electrical hackers know a way to change the dash to read kms in the odo instead of miles? This is a 1999 540. Cheers
-
Just use standard ones - the difference in feel is negligible. I would try Gavin @ Euro Italian.
-
Badass - you got pretty close to the action. Was that a practice day?
-
We have a winner Beamer is for Bikes. Bimmer is for cars. Bimmer is still pronounced Beamer. It is Beamersport - I cringe slightly when people say Bimmersport.
-
Possibly? There is more to come from it with ITBs also - stock intake restricts from around 5000 rpm.
-
Much faster today - low 1.09 nearly 1.08 (with traffic). Hopefully mid 1.08 on dot tyres and maybe a high 1.07 on slicks. Badass
