  1. Hahaha. You are better off asking on Vask.org.nz.
  2. I might give that a go next time Kulgan and see how it is. Tried the VHT today, it works better than Tergo. Way easier and faster to apply since it's in a spray can and it eats through the paint pretty fast. You'll want at least 3 cans if you're doing a set of wheels though. What I did was spray a couple coats (as instructed on the can) and then waterblast it off. Got almost all of it off with 2 cans (but I did use Tergo on them first last week so it's about the equivalent of a layer of this). To be honest though next time I'll probably just get them acid dipped.
  3. I've found that you have to apply it quite thick. Also leave it for a little longer and then use a paint scrapper and try to just peel the paint off. It should have at least softened enough to be able to do it. I'm going to give that VHT stuff a go today.
  4. I was just going to say, what is it with BMWs and driving into the water?
  5. I have just come across this: https://www.vhtpaint.com/products/stripfast/ All the reviews I found were positive about it so I'm going to give it a shot soon on some wheels I'm redoing and will post back results. On one video of it working it appears to work better than Tergo but we shall see.
  6. Saw Jibs in the stroker e30 in Ellerslie just before. That was me in the silver E28.
  7. I paid $250 for mine + postage from Wellington about two years ago. Only one had a slight mark of curbing which was easily fixed and they all had center caps.
  8. Driver ed at school is actually a very good idea. Red Dwarf, I don't think that would fix anything as there seems to be an equal number of retards over the age of 30 on the road as there are under.
  9. I agree. The problem is no one is actually doing any teaching. But we all know this and it's been discussed many times already.
  10. Didn't they just raise it to 16?
  11. I wouldn't clear coat the lips if they are polished for several reasons. One being that it dulls the finish no matter what you do. Secondly it will chip very soon after because the paint has nothing to stick to. I speak from experience because I did this with a set of wheels, whith proper paint and a gun not spray paint (and I am not new to painting either). Some paints will last longer than others, but eventually they all chip or peel and then you have to recoat the whole thing, no way to fix it. On my e28 I polished the lips and simply spray with silicone spray after every wash. Every once in a while you can go over them with a metal polish like Autosol to bring them back to 100%, but I've left them for months before and they only needed a light polish. My car lives outside 100% of the time.
  12. I've had pretty good success with Tergo paint stripper. Apply it with a brush and cover the wheel with some gladwrap to keep the fumes in (a trick the guy at the paint shop told me, supposed to make it have stronger affect), then water blast the stipper and paint off. Might have to do it more than once but it's the easiest way labour wise.

Exactly what I pictured my garage looking like, haha. Good luck with the sale, looks very nice.
  14. I can't see why they wouldn't be fine. Looking at getting a set to replace mine as well, hard to say no to that price.
  15. That does sound pretty bad.
  16. Blown head gasket you should see either oil in the water or water in the oil (but not always). The best would be to take the head off really. You might find some other things you should know before using that motor.
  17. You say this until you drive something better/faster. I did the same thing but with my Golf, used to think the 8v had character and this and that until I drove a 2L 16v, 1.9TDI and swapped a 1.8t into mine and realsed I was just wasting money all that time and was never happy with it. However I do understand as I have been looking at what I can do with my eta as well. Why don't your parents want you to have a 3.5? What difference is that or if you get 200hp (for arguement's sake) out of the 2.7? I know what you mean about living at home gives you more money for cars though, haha.
  18. If you were spending $60,000, wouldn't you go and see it in person anyway? I know I wouldn't be relying on photos no matter what they were.
  19. I saw this for sale, if the time had been right I'd have bought it and swapped the lot into my e28. That's what I think you should do (provided you can get the motor going alright/everthing is ok).
  20. It's nice you are trying to help a friend but I agree with pretty much everyone else here. I find it pretty funny as well as very sad that it has become acceptable to beg for money for things like this. Dignity goes pretty much down the toilet, but that doesn't seem to mean much these days as long as you can get a dollar. Nothing personal against your friend.
  21. I have a few bits left over from when I did my manual converison that I don't need. 4HP22 driveshaft. Didn't vibrate or make funny noises when on the car. Comes with everthing in the photo. $50 or make an offer. AC compressor from 525e/M20B27. Still had heaps of gas in the system but I never actually used it so not sure on the condition. I remember I turned it on once ages ago and the car got a little colder. $40 or make me an offer. I'll dregrease it before it's picked up. Edit: Pickup from One Tree Hill, Auckland.

I'm not sure about the bolt distance for the bit that bolts to the guibo but the overall length actually seems to be the same. If I was you I'd try and find an M20 gearbox (even if just to borrow) to test it on the car, if you can't find a gearbox with matching driveshaft. Bear in mind that my gearbox is a Getrag 260/5, I'm not sure if the 260/6 is the same length in the case you find one of those.
