Interesting contrast - some photos from the outside with the doors open would be interesting.

Saw his today while at the mechanic's - Very Tidy Also saw a very nice looking Burgundy e34 getting pulled over by the police in Albany yesterday 🙂

I originally bought this car with my son in mind as he was lining up his learner test. I thought it would be a good safe car for him to learn in and how often do manual e39's show up? I was hoping he'd like it and I'd pass it on but he wanted something smaller and pulled the trigger on a z3 yesterday. So it's for sale as I hate having to park it outside. I've owned it for a little over a year. Think it arrived in NZ as an immigrant import from the UK. It was based in Wellington and I have various but incomplete receipts etc from then up until it was bought by the young man I purchased it from. He went down with his dad and brought it to Auckland. It's not perfect but still in very nice shape for a 26 year old. My project thread is here - Work. Booked in with my mechanic this week to check the coolant temp sensor etc. I'm based in Browns bay and am looking at $7k. Open to offers.

Was thinking around $8k. Took some photos yesterday will post a for sale thread this week.

It's now in my garage. Happy son. Does mean I will need to sell the e39 though...

Nice! Thanks Aaron 🙂

I hear you all - not practical at all. But then I'm not buying the car he is with his own money. He's been working part time for 2 years and saving. As we all know it's pretty hard to find a car in manual these days and I can't say I agree with his "taste" in some regards - straight no to golf, polo, 1 series etc. Just thought I'd check here in case someone knew the car from yester-year 🙂 I was thinking he might want to keep (buy off me) the e39 he's been learning in but it's too big he says. Will have to list that shortly for the garage space if he pulls the trigger on the z3.

My son is shopping for his first car and is looking at this pretty hard z3 Went out to Waiheke the other weekend (good weather) for a look and a drive. Beautiful sound and drives nice and tight. Anyone know this car?

Yes new coolant and system bled. Gauge doesn't just go to red and stay there. It's somewhat random but it usually goes to red then comes back down after a few minutes - KTMP was showing 75 degrees on the short trip Sunday. It seems to go to red and back down a few times before "settling" on just under halfway on the gauge.
-
I'm a little slow but now that the cluster is useable I got around to unlocking the hidden menu and viewing the temp. KTMP at cold shows 30' and moved up to 60 before the gauge went to the red zone at which point KTMP shows -128'. I'm assuming this means no reading available so as a safety the gauge shows red?

Got the cluster repaired and re-installed it this afternoon. I've been driving it on occasion with the donor cluster and was worried the mileage would be off at next WOF but it seems to have autocorrected 🙂 Only off thing is it appears to think it's -20C outside. Hopefully that comes right with some driving also. Recommend Robinson's Instruments in Onehunga.

Finally got my e39 cluster repaired. Little bit of a mission... My auto electrician said they don't do that sort of thing and recommended ASCO Instruments in Manukau. But I called them and spoke to Jun and he didn't want to know. Stated if it was broken there was no way to fix it and I would need to buy a new cluster and have it coded. His reasoning was all the plastics would be brittle and trying to take it apart would just break it more... So I called Bellar's and got Kevin's wife(?). She said try google. Eventually found Robinson's Instruments in Onehunga. Paul on the phone wasn't sure they could repair it but at least was willing to look. I dropped it off and two weeks later job was done. Installed it today and am happy with the result.

I found this site while searching for e30 info about 20 years ago - pretty sure I bought an e30 door from Driftit. Some great build threads at the time... Tony (I think?) merging an e30 and an e46. Red with flared arches. A 4 door e30 with a super charger - think it was a sc14? Was a guy ( Crunchy?) with a boasted e34 Hybrid's lovely e30 with a S52 swap.

3rd failed attempt at this cluster repair. Time to give up and pay a professional 😞 Recommendations for an expert? I would prefer Auckland if possible.

Thread necro... Is Kerry still around or someone similar in Auckland? e39 cluster repair required...

What transmission fluid can I use for my manual e39? I don't see anything other than atf...
