  1. Cheers for the earthing info Jochen. Next problem... The headunit I have only has one remote out and it goes to the electric aerial. I wire tapped this line to provide the remote on for the amp. When I turn the ignition off I get a pop as the aerial goes down... Any ideas?
  2. Ethrty_Andy - think I saw a caution in the manual on running the amp to only coil... 0 Guage is huge! i can't imagine running enough current to require that - I was just wanting to add a little base. Checked the guide stickied at the top of this section and for the wattage I was intending to run 8 guage was sufficent. Though in hindsight I probably should have gone 4... Have you upgraded your Alternator/Generator with your setup? Neil - cheers for the info. I had though about amping my front speakers, but at the moment I have a pretty average Panasonic headunit with only one set of pre outs. I definately want to replace that with something decent that looks a little more in keeping with the dash and with 2 pre outs etc. Also I have the fronts in the standard mounting position - in the front kick panels. Do you think it's really worth amping the fronts in those cramped little spaces?
  3. Matt my amp won't handle a 2 ohm impedance - wish it could... Yeah i think I'm sending even less than 150w at 8ohm. Figure my options are: 1. Sell the sub and buy a lower power single coil replacement. 2. Save and buy a mono 2ohm stable amp. I'd prefer to do the second option but don't think I can afford that any time soon and won't look forward to replacing the 8 guage power and earth I just installed
  4. Ok so i pulled the sub out to check the connection. Good news is that it's wired as Ethry_Andy instructed. Bad news (?) is that the model is different mentioned on the trademe ad. Its a Pioneer TS-W258D4 (specs) so I believe that means my amp is seeing an 8ohm impediance... So that means lower power out right? Amp is rated at 150w RMS bridged to 4 ohm.
  5. I haven't blown anything yet - I don't think Had the gain turned right down for testing. If I do as you have suggested what ohm load am I presenting to the amp?
  6. Hey I'm new to amps and subs but felt like having a go at adding some bass to my system so... I bought a sub and amp off trademe on the cheap to try it out. I picked up the following: Pioneer TS-W2502D2/D4 sub in a box Specs Lightning Audio FF150.2 amp So having spent a number of hours on the weekend installing this (and surprisingly it did work) I have some questions. 1. Earthing - having the battery in the boot is very handy. Should I use the batteries earthing point for the amp? I haven't at present but was wanting to know if it would be better or not. 2. Main question - the sub details states 2 voice coils with the ability to connect in parallel or serial to produce either a 2ohm or 4ohm load... Or seperate channels entirely... Looking at the manual for the amp I shouldn't be trying to drive a 2ohm sub, but I don't know if I'm supposed to use both channels to power the sub or bridge to a serial connection or what. Or should I be looking at a mono amp (expensive)? Some help on this would be greatly appreciated! Feel free to ask questions.

    Left Sun Visor

Hey looking for a Passenger side sun visor. PFL E30 coupe with black leather interior. What sort of price am I looking at? Mine has gotten loose and will no longer stay up. I could just get a velcro sticky spot to get it to stay up but don't think they come in black... Besides it won't hold up my sun shield. Or can it be fixed? Yeah noob questions - sorry :-)

    E30 325i SE

Pretty sure this car used to be in Rothesay Bay last year with a 'For Sale' sign on it. Looked good.
  10. Dude that looks sweet! Does the switch under the headlight knob work?
  11. Unfortunately Paul Money's has stopped selling car audio - I went to a closing sale a couple of months ago and snagged the last pair of Infinity 5.25's. I think you should be able to find a pair at either Parallel Imported or here: http://onlinecaraudio.co.nz/Car_Audio_Speakers_5_quot_13cm_ As a reference I got a pair of 5.25 Kappa 52.9l coaxial's for $160. I fitted them myself - it't pretty easy to do.

    WRX STi's

Good on you for taken that dude to court! Good luck on the outcome. Inspections... I had a bunch done in the 90's by the AA. Always thought they were good and in one case they missed two problems on a MR2 GT I bought and paid for the issues to be fixed (clutch and aircon totaling $3k all up!). Got an AA inspection earlier this year on a WRX wagon and got two pages of ticks with no real info given and 3 pages of disclaimers stating the report didn't cover anything - in legalese... Took the WRX to a mechanic - front pads needed replacing, rear diff had a leaking O ring, the front diff solenoid is on the way out (shudder at slow speed on lock) and the car has had accidents front and rear. None of which was mentioned in the AA report or the Jap auction sheet. Fortunately the dealer was reasonable but won't be bothering with the AA again.

Love the guy asking for the enzo bodykit... Some real special people out there!
  16. Nice looking car dude! What's the license plate say?
  17. Ok maybe I was going about this the wrong way... I was trying to get an idea or plan (bits to buy and in what order) and then figure out how much it would cost in order to save up. Today I only have a few hundred in the spend bucket. Only had the car a few months and do love the old girl - just be nice if she had a little more go To date all work has been aesthetic - prof. cut and polish to remove acid rain damage, window tints for summer, audio repairs. Cheers for the advice people!
  18. Makes for interesting reading :-) Back on topic though... Would implementing one of these http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....showtopic=36895 and getting a tune done be a worthwhile use of time and money or should the Cam/Headers be done first?
  19. Hey are they of a specific brand? How much you asking?
  20. Me :-) I see a bunch of e30's! There's 3 where I work (not counting mine): 325i coupe in Gold 320i coupe with monster tacho and bonnet vents... 325i sedan 2 nice e30's near where I live: Tech2 coupe with plates like || tech2 || just up the road 325i sedan parked outside my neighbours alot - currently in trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=406531685
  21. Do you have any dyno figures Barf? Not doubting you just wanting to see what gains are possible.
  22. Hey sorry for the hijack - I'm keen on getting some extra power out of my e30 M325 too. From what I have read though the exhaust, apart from the muffler, all the way from the exhaust manifold is good as is. Same goes for the intake. Other sites recommend cam and valve spring changes followed by remap or tune and only then changing the exhaust manifold in order to get more from the M20. Truth? If so where best to get bits from? I know the best route is probably to go to a M50 but I'd like to keep my car largely original. Has anyone done a swap for a S14? Or is that just too expensive?
  23. Nope it doesn't. Probably easiest for you to set your digi cam to lowest quality to take some pics for this site.
