Needs more lower in the front.

Weird, registered as a 1993, advertised as a 1994, it's a 1992 model (according to the Vin on the plate anyway). It's non-vanos, so has to be pretty early, and the odometer history doesn't make sense, and isn't really explainable with the normal reasons of entry error etc. If you ignore the two low readings, then the car only did 252 kms in 2 years. Why are the TWO low readings there, and why was it almost parked up for 2 years? Apparently it's on bitsteins and has a M sport ECU.....

Hehe, Dad's had "liteskinz" on his E30 lights for 14 years. No issues so far, although they aren't tinted. Before that, He had the factory fitted E30 perspex covers that looked like grandpa's "blind-person wrap-around overglasses" .

Pull the unit off complete. Normally, if it's broken anywhere, you can't realistcally fix it (I was lucky!). only takes a couple of minutes to get out buy a scan tool you can still drive it in the meantime, and $40 isn't too bad for a scan tool. Visit My Website

Errr... that badges and lights are kinda the point. They're rude. Everything else is pretty normal 525i, other than someone ticked the box for "individual leather" which I agree, is quite nice. I'd be very suprised if there is ANYTHING genuinely "M" or ACS modified on the car. It even has standard height looking suspension. My 525i has factory fitted M Sports suspension and is far lower than that. Even after I fitted raising spacers to the front. Based on the mis-information in the ad, it's a car you run away from. The owner seems to have no clue for so many reasons. Anyone else notice in photo one it has standard BMW badging on the front (just the roundel), then the ACS badges appear in other photos and the M badges appear on the wheels in some other photos. Then in other pics, the ACS badge on the rear changes style AND position and the "M" badge appears. And the colours are wrong on the M badge. Those of us driving an ordinary BMW aren't putting some ghey lights and some cheap-ass emblems from trademe on then write an advert TRYING to tell people it's something "really special (desirable)", when it clearly isn't.

I'd like to fit the kit one day, But as I say, mine is perfect as far as the worn out parts go. I'll keep an eye on them. I wonder if mine was always leaking from new, and that's why the flaps wasn't worn at all - any time it did change, it would have done it slower and less abruptly. I wonder if the 2 cars have the same diff ratio. Some markets had different ones spec'd and sometimes "Motorsport" cars had shorter final drives to pep them up.

Run high octane (you probably are anyway) Have you checked the DISA valve. They can destroy engines anyway, so worth doing, but they can also tear membranes and not work, taking away a good wollop of low end torque. Looking at the engine from the front, it's just behind the throttle body, screwed (torx) inthe the right hand side of the intake. They're a pretty common failure, with a bit of milage on. Certainly worth looking at anyway, as if it comes apart, the pin in the end can get eaten by a cylinder = poked engine. You can get a kit online to repair them with cnc machined replacement components, or you can buy a replacement genuine item. If the vacuum side of things is poked, you have to buy a new valve anyway, but you can still update it if you want. Mine had a leak across the membrane, which I fixed and noticed a small increase in low end torque, although it was probably working to some degree with the leak. Usually, pulling them apart screws them completely, in typical BMW fashion! The actual mechanical parts were perfect though. DISA Valve check and repair kit

Laughed at that MANY times. Mods cost about $4K when new... uhhhh... $4K is NOTHING when it comes to mods on a brand new BMW... that didn't even buy leather seats as an option did it? Maybe the $4K was for a pod filter and some ghey spark plugs. Clearly it's a dead standard car with some crap added to make the owner feel important. I suppose it's not a 520i at least. Still. THey probably don't realise everyone is laughing at them. It's got some illegal HIDs added too.

If you know it's not your fault, ALWAYS call the cops. If you know it IS your fault, may be wise not to! There's money involved - people will lie. I had a lady hit me head-on on a country road. She admitted liability on site, and I had stopped when she hit me. She was running late for work, I STILL got to my appointment on time, AFTER sorting out accident details. I have photos of my work van and it's tyre prints less than 100mm from the bank on my side of the road. I have photos of her skid marks starting ON my side of the road at the apex of the corner, less than 1 metre from MY outside edge of the road, and my work insurance (LUMLEY INSURANCE - USELESS) said it was a narrow gravel road, and it was 50/50 blame. Even after I showed them the photos showing I could have driven a car (sideways!) around her car after our offset frontal impact. I tried calling the cops, but as it was I had to drive 20 minutes in a bent van to get coverage (remote bush area). So your tax dollars paid the $3000 excess because LUMLEY are useless - you see, either the other party paid the reapir cost, or the hospital I work at pys the excess. Who was more likely to pay anything????? I fought for 2 months, but it was all time wasting, and there was no cost to me. I declared the whole thing to AMI (my private insurance) who listed it as a no-fault accident in a work car and it makes no difference to me. If I could have gotten a cop to the scene (in VERY remote Northland) it would have been easy to claim the other party was 100% to blame. SO, unless you're happy to take the blame, GET THE COPS OUT to an accident.

HAHA! Awesome! Plus, you only find out the truth AFTER the cops come knocking on your door because she's actually an illegal russian immigrant called Boris who was actually the FATHER of the 3 kids, before the op. That car could have enough history for someone to have legal "issues" over. The shell could be stolen, the shell could have debts registered on it, anything. I was under the impression that changing the identity of a car was fraudulent. If the papers don't show the change, ANY current owner may be the one accused of the fraudulent activity. Run away. It's not worth the possible grief! It's not so different to buying it registered as a Mitsi V3000 - it's just less likely to be noticed.

Never mind

I've got a mate with E34 front calipers, completely rebuilt and replated and everything. I think he got them from a wrecker for his E39, had everything done (many hundreds of $$$) and then discovered at changeover time they were wrong. I think that's how it went anyway. Will PM you his number and you can call him and work out details etc, if he still has them.
-
Yep... I spied that one a few times, and it looks dodgy. I feel sorry for the poor bastard who buys it and has no clue about them. It's probably been re-registered at some stage with "plates and tags" from another car added. The car itself looks like a South African assembled one, anyway. RUN!

buy one! They're really cheap! You can buy This one on trademe for NZ$170 + NZ$8 shipping..... OR you can buy the SAME THING here, for under NZ$45 including the shipping I got mine here. Obvioulsy it may take a while to arrive - I think mine took a week or so.
-
+1 Agreed!

I'd probably take an E39 one if it's all models. I would normally be happy to organize, but new baby was due last Wednesday, so might be a bit busy any day now.

haha! There was a yellow one here in NZ. It went to the salt flats in Bonneville and threw a rod at 13500 rpm. It was fast too! We were on a club run and I saw it eat an XR6 falcon up a passing lane - especially when they got to the corners at the top Damn funny to watch! Haha, true. Still - it's not quite as hair-dresser as an MX5. 130 HP is REALLY easy, and pretty cheap. 180 is harder, but quite possible with a bit more cash.

Dads E30 325i 5 speed sits on about 11 to 12 L/100kms, and he drives like a grandad... what with him being one His driving is mostly shortish trips, either around the suburb, or 80 zone for 8kms to town, or hilly winding 8kms to my place and whatever mixture in between. A few longer drives here and there, but basically easy driving. It's mostly low throttle openings at less than 3000 rpm 90% of the time. Unless he's beside a honda with big wheels at the lights I think auto E30's are quite a lot hungrier too.
-
It's not all that far from you now - Masterton. They guy has 4 of them. You could paint it Yellow. Would that be hair dresser enough for you? They're very easy to make faster too

I had a WHOLE CAR that weighed about that much!: It wasn't the lightest one I had either!
-
Yeah, possible, although I don't usually check myself, unless it's a classic or something really special. I wonder if someone offered them good money for it and they sold it out of trademe, or if they suddenly realised it was a bit cheap. It was a pretty good price. It might appear next week for a couple of grand more.

Viscous coupling holding and spanner tools (sorted, thankyou)
Allanw replied to rusteee's topic in Want to buy
The drive belt will slip before anything bad happens. If you do it right, you shouldn't damage anything. If you miss with the hammer though.... it doesn't take much force, but the hammer blows have to be tidy and firm. If the spanner is too short, you'll be faffing about trying too hard to miss stuff with the hammer. it is a commonly used method. -

I did it this way, easy - buy a nice long 32mm though. Mine is some old whitworth or somethig - fits great, but the hammer is AWFUL close to the fan shroud! -
Although... if they didn't mention it... no-one would know. You wonder why they have said all that, when the avaerage seller on trademe seems to be far less honest - like the genuine low milage E30's (with an odometer that hasn't changed for 8 years, but it seems to work now....)
