That's what I figured but can't seem to locate the socket for it? Not sure if I'm blind or just being dumb... Or both.
-
Anyone know where this should go? Noticed it over the weekend while I've been servicing the car but can't find anything it should plug into. Looks like a sensor plug but not sure where it should go. It's got a reasonably long cable that appears to go into the DME box (though it's hard to trace that end of it). It was lying as pictured but could easily connect to something lower down... I just don't know what and can't see any obvious socket for it. Can anyone enlighten me?

Summer's not far away, Mike.

If it's good enough for Ryan Gosling, Tony....

Did the cluster trim today. Looks good. Just need to redo the centre console. Spoke to Car Folie about it and they said they'd do it in two pieces but I don't want a join so I think I'll wait til I get some primer for the concave curves and do it myself.
-
I thought the same but virtually impossible inside to out because you have excess when you get to the edges. Much easier to stretch vinyl than shrink it! I've got enough vinyl for a couple more attempts. If the next one fails I'll ask the guys at Car Folie for a quote!

See earlier post (which you 'liked'), Mike

It's 3M. The problem is not the vinyl. Main issue is the shape of the E31 centre console piece, particularly the deep concave at the top. Just really hard to stretch the vinyl into those corners. I managed it on my last attempt with no ripping but without primer it keeps lifting.
-
Yep, of course. Don't think you could shape it round the complex curves of the E31 centre console with no heat!
-
I've got 3 good reasons for wrapping: 1. If I can stop it lifting in the concave areas with primer and sort the edges where the MID and head unit fit it will be perfect. To get a matched finish with paint would require a proper spray gun and clear coat. 2. The trim has a rubberised coating so painting would require a lot of prep. 3. Long term is to retrim in Lotus White so I'll want to restore the black trim at that point.

Had a crack at refreshing the worn interior trim with some ivory white 3M wrap. Discovered the concave centre console trim on the E31 is an absolute muthaf**ker to wrap (especially without primer). Got there in the end after 3-4 hours and several aborted attempts where the vinyl split, etc. Love the colour but the finish is not up to the standard I'm hoping for so may have to seek pro help if I fail again once I've got some primer. Will also be doing the cluster bezel and vent trim. Arrggghhh!! Arrghhhh x 2 In place but imperfect...

I've heard from various sources the E60 M5 is not a particular nice car off the track... Guess this is further confirmation. I'm with on comfort whilst driving but I do love power too. Hence my interest in big, fast sedans and now the semi-ridiculous E31. Good luck with the Merc.

How much room? I'm getting a couple of mufflers and 4 tips soon!

Thanks but hard to find RHD mats from a US seller.
-
Heavy unfortunately.
-
Yeah... eBay UK. Problem with decent mats is the coat of shipping.
-
These ones are almost the right colour but they just don't fit and constantly ride up over the accelerator (safe!). They have to go... Now to find OE tailored mats for less than $100! haha
-
You don't know how upsetting it is... I can barely drive it, they offend me so much

Best it's looked, Mike Borrowed some ramps from Martin (breakmywindow) and did a basic service (new oil and filters). Also sussed out how to adjust the headlamps so they now fit correctly and are flush to the bonnet. Gave the interior a good clean and found all the things wrong that I'd like to replace (headlining, aftermarket high level brake light, wrong mats [aarrgrghh!!]) Was going to do the trans service too but realised I need a bigger oil pan so will save that for next weekend. Saw Milan (beemn) in his very tidy E61 wagon. Waved.

Leave the cats alone! They're just looking for a warm bed at night and a car stays nice and toastie for quite a while! Lots of (very cool) cats in our neighbourhood and no garage so whenever my car is left overnight at home (instead of carpark at work) I put a car cover on it. Also good for bird sh*t, falling twigs, etc.

No ambulance so don't think it was serious... Just dumb by the look of it.

Saw crashed red E36 on the corner of Richmond and Ponsonby Roads earlier. Didn't witness the crash but looked like the driver had taken the corner too quickly turning right into Richmond - probably jumping the filter lights - and lost control, crashing into a parked car. Hope it was no one on here cos it looked like result of douchery at the wheel.

Pretty certain cars are only exempt if imported as special interest... Otherwise people would import all manor of old cheap cars.
