Yep Ferrari. Not sure which. Nath's got it.

Thanks, will contact the seller but at that price I don't think our negotiations will be long... The one I'm looking at importing from the UK will cost half that landed and has full motorsport kit!! My budget's maxing at around $20K. If I had $30K I'd rather convert a cheap 850 with an S62.

That looks like a bit too much fun!

There are a couple of meets coming up, one in Auckland: http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/49129-18th-may-photography-meet-finl/ and a big track day (if you want) meet at Taupo on Queen's birthday: http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/48903-bimmersport-megameet-2014-official-thread/?hl=megameet

Thanks Darren. Fingers crossed as I can't afford a blunder!! I do have a supercharger that will fit neatly into the E31... Not quite the S62 and sadly not manual, but I think any fears about power will be negated!

I've re-gassed boot struts before and they've been good as new (sometimes better, you have to watch out for uppercuts instead of decapitation). There are plenty of mobile guys around that'll come and do it at your car.

You know I want to steal your engine to put in it!

Online... Sites like pistonheads.com and autotrader.co.uk. It's not a done deal but the owner's been really helpful (even getting the car on a hoist and photographing every inch of the undercarriage for rust). Will have to sell my car too but have got 3 interested parties now so hopefully won't be a problem (apart from me crying a bit when I hand over the keys).

Thanks, not counting my chickens... Fortunately, plenty of cheap msport 840s in the UK!
-
Hopefully this... Waiting for final inspections before pressing go. If it's rust-free, it'll be mine. The only downside... No more SIV permits this year so I'll have to wait until 2015 before I can drive it... Arrghh. At least it will give me a few months in the garage to get it perfect for compliance.

Had four people come to view this weekend and the car was filthy. Those that know me will also know how distressing this was for me. Had to detail yesterday evening to make myself feel better. She's safely back under cover just in case any of those that viewed are reading... Fortunately, I think she may have found a new home (and I may have found something to replace her with).

$4750 is a great price for manual conversion - do it if you can afford it. If you can't, and you just need to get the car back on the road, you probably won't get better than $2500 for the auto replacement (talk to me about better software if you opt for the latter).
-
Manual conversion would definitely be best outcome but it won't come cheap. Think the rebuild costs you've been quoted for your auto are outrageous. Should be able to replace with used and fit for sub $2.5K.

Google is your friend in these situations. If it's happened to you, it's happened to someone else... And they will have done all the hard yakka finding out where the leak is.
-
About what I get from a tank in stop/start city driving aswell, Roo.
-
Good stuff... Roo, should make a big difference to your E34. Hope it was you who bought it!
-
Yep... It definitely wasn't vanos noise. I know what that sounds like! Deeper thumping that was loudest under the car... As Martin pointed out - probably connecting rod bearings and probably expensive to repair.
-
Rules that out then. Almost certainly vapour seals behind the door cards as door seals have to be virtually completely disintegrated to leak that much.
-
Have you checked the sunroof drains? If these get blocked water gets in easily and will pool in the foot wells - although you'd usually notice it around the roof and door/windscreen pillars.
-
Will want an LSD if I find an 840. A straight swap with E34 LSD, isn't it? Can anyone confirm?

Speechless.
