Given the price these are selling for these days it'd be a 50/50 decision for me. If you spent the excess would you be able to get that back on resale or would you be better off selling as is. Depends how much your already into the car financially. If it's your OE and you dont need the money from the car why not put the rego on hold and park it in someones garage till you get back?

Very cool car and awesome work as usual.

Parked in town today and i see at the lights half a block away a green 740i. He was heading my way and I was going to wave out when I realized that not only did his V8 sound way better than mine he was shifting gears manually.. Watched him take off from the next set of lights to make sure I was right. Yep. Manual.. I'm jealous.

Awwwww DAMN IT! I really didn't think he'd agree to that. I'm almost tempted to go through with it on condition he posts the WOF sheet on TM for all to see if it should fail.

I've always had big cars. Holden Kingswood was my first car. Valiant Regals, XJ6 series 1 Jags and prior to the 740i I had a VS SS commodore so for me I always find it a bit amusing to hear the term "barge" used to describe the E38. From my point of view having owned large cars the E38 is more of a medium sized luxury sports car. -

The only info I could find was for a 740il and it had it as 12.20m turning circle. -
You can get them off ebay I think for about $80-90. just clip on each side of the stock bumper.

I'm thinking you mean these. Photo courtesy of Kooljess.

Wiki stats. F34 Wheelbase 2,920 mm E38 Wheelbase 2,930 mm (115 in) Wheel base is almost the same. only a 10mm difference. -
I posted this in my other thread but I fouind it interesting so thought it could go here as well. I got curious about this so I checked this out for a size comparison. 2014 328i Gran Turismo. Length 4824mm 189.9inch's Width 1828mm 72inch's Curb weight 1645kg's. POWER 245 PS (180 kW; 242 hp) TORQUE 350 N·m (258 lb·ft) 2001 E38 740i. Length 4984mm 196.2inch"s Width1862mm 73.3inch's Curb Weight 1710kg's. POWER 286 PS (210 kW: 282 hp) TORQUE 440 N·m (325 lb-ft) So by todays standards it's really not a whole lot bigger than a 3 series but with a bit more power, a nice V8 rumble and with all the luxuary you'd expect from the flagship model.

Would you take the car to a WOF testing station of my choosing at my expense? Let's see how keen he is on that idea.. ha ha ha

Thats doing it old school. puts a whole different edge on things. Especially in a bit of weather.

It took a while but I read through your entire thread. Love the color of your M3 and the the work you've done is inspirational. Glad to see your enjoying your ride.

Similar story with my 740i. Ex Singapore. Has just about clocked over 240,000km and I've done 40k of those over the last 3 years. 3 oil and filter changes and 2 suspension links are all I've had to do to it. I'll be holding on to the 750i for a LONG time..lol

Sounds just like my kinda fun. Cant beat a big boat in a big swell for exhilaration. :-)

In all honesty I dont think it unreasonable to expect a little maininance on a vehicle of this age. And thats all this is. It's not that I cant fix it simply its that I'm being told is that my cars to old to be scanned. So thats going to be the same story for any pre 2001 car. Not just the e38. Your right about size though. E65's and up are huge. But by todays standards if you park a E38 next to a F10 it's not going to look big. I got curious so I checked this out for a size comparison. 2014 328i Gran Turismo. Length 4824mm 189.9inch's Width 1828mm 72inch's Curb weight 1645kg's. Cheers. Much appreciated. Though thats a long drive without a WOF or Reg...lol

Wheel allignment done yesterday after work. Drives nice and straight though to be honest it did before..lol They couldn't plug thier machine in to reset the Steering angle sensor so it looks like it'll be a trip to Palmerston North after all. Not that taking the car for a long drive will be a chore..ha ha. I'm going to look at getting a cheap laptop, cable and INPA. This ole dogs gonna have to learn some new tricks. So far it's cost me at least $50 every time I've had it plugged into someones computer only to be told they cant do anything with it. One place was able to see and clear all the codes but couldn't reset the sensor. Asked them what the other codes were and he said they didn't seem important so he just cleared them. Duh... Makes a lot of sense to get that laptop and INPA now.

outside temp reading on the car said -4C on the drive to work at 5am. The thick layer of ice on the car when I went out in the morning would attest to that. 14C would seem like summer...lol

Not what ya sister said.. ha ha

I've had the fire going almost every night for the last month and quite often during the day. You northerners have it far too easy. lol

pretty sure its the same guy. Shows his face this time though and shows of his Alipna b10's. Super nice and super rare.

I couldn't help but ask on his auction if he'd get it a new warrant if sold. Apparently he can. Must have a friend at a garage. I'm sure with the back parcel tray cut like that it should fail from any self respecting garage or testing station.

It's on permanently. I have changed a bent control arm so I guess a alignment should be mandatory. I'll book it in and see if it makes a difference. Thanks.
