Legal with a cert. http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/certifiers/virm-in...ral-10-v3a5.pdf

Hmmmmmm - so more work but less $$$ bits and arguable better than the typical route. Awesome effort.

Hang on, so talk to be about the front suspension. Am I seeing the E46 subframe in the E30? How many mods did this need to fit, and does this correct the caster issue that the E30 has with the E30 subframe and regular (not M3 Evo) lower arms? Coz your caster looks fine. Presumably you then just use the E46 engine mounting arms etc, and don't have any issue with needing to change the sump????? Or am I missing something!

Great progress! Easy enough to get the rev counter tested, and it sounds like you need to. I am pretty sure the 307 brakes fit behind 15" speedlines. I think that's what we did on my mate's car, before he went back to smaller brakes (its only a 1.6GTI).

Do the show room.

Fair enough. I'm not sure its the right attitude to Honda though - they are Recaro seats whether they come from a Honda or not, but I see the point on harnesses: http://www.recaro.com/index.php?id=3020®ion=2&L=2 Also worth noting - if Honda made the S50 it would be lighter, cheaper and possibly more powerful. I'd put an F20c (s2000 motor) in an E30 in a heartbeat if it was series legal. (My previous car was a H22A (Prelude) powered EG Civic. It was awesome.)

They may have changed it. Alternatively it was actually 1/2" not 13mm and 7/32" not 5mm

Me too. I wanted, except I sold basically all my "spare" 2002 bits (some of which would work to the extent it needs TLC). Mostly I want to stick the tii engine in it (haven't sold that yet). Would go good with that.

Fair enough. Well, in 4x100: - its extremely easy to find wheels with an offset of +35 to +45 (Honda) - its less easy to find between +0 and +35 (basically, its BMW) - if you need brake clearance, its harder again - and wanting period alloys narrows it some more. Having said that, there is stuff out there. Keeping an eye on the "for sale" section in this forum is a good idea.

I wish I had the time he has. Happy to learn the remaining skills.
-
I'd personally get Toyos, and not a full slick as ... it might rain.
-
Depending on the offset, there are a lot more wheels available in 4x114.4 (Nissan etc), and they're cheaper.
-
It would be illegal, but you could use a small spacer. If 205/50 is rubbing, the 16s aren't really the right offset.

Just a thought - you could probably turbo it for less money and same/moar power, given you already have the ECU. The price of an S50 buys a nice set of pistons and rings, machine work and turbo bits. Maybe have a talk to "crunchy" - he helped design (in some way) the mapecu and is turboing an M20B25. But then again, you might want S50 - can definitely understand that. Opinion ---> don't go for the Sportster CS, try find something a bit more subtle (and/or period). Just my 2c. If you can handle the red stitching the black Recaro seats from 4 door Integra Type R (DB8R) are pretty awesome IMHO.

I wonder if this is what I think it is?
-
That reminds me - I saw his car a few days ago in Mt Eden. Looked mint at 50kph too.
-
Oh yeah - silly me - I completely overlooked the more common 86mm crank 3.2, sorry 3.3. I've always wondered why BMW's model designations often don't match the actual capacity. Then they went the other way with the 323/523. Crazy.
-
You know, that could mean you have the super-doopa long throw crank, so with a set of pistons you could have some serious displacement - 3,760cc (or I am sure Marty would want the crank if you don't): http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....68&hl=crank

I was thinking the engine might not be the original.
-
Generally the engine number is the original chassis number (I think - happy to be corrected): http://bmwfans.info/vin/decoder/?decode=5740412 LHD E23 7 Series? Does that sound possible?
-
My wife likes the M3. She did NOT like the race car (mostly the heavy unassisted steering).
-
Clearance to the booster is tight! I do have a question - is that carpet in the garage?
-
WTF - dish. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-228823411.htm

No no no no no. The wastegate performs a vital function - stopping the boost from going as high as the turbine and motor can make it. No wastegate = 25psi+ (at a guess).

I haven't had any experience, but it is definitely an option (eg have seen it on a Ford RS200 Group B car, so can't be all bad). Will need someone very, very good at their work to ensure it doesn't crack.
