  10. 70 odd km's each way, average travel time in the mornings seems to be about 1:20 and evenings can vary wildly from same as mornings to 3 hours. We'd be looking at moving closer to AKL but can't find anything under $1M in a half decent school zone that's even remotely comparable to what we have here! Pretty easy decision really and if I was overly concerned about climate change or get too frustrated with driving I could always do the train...
  11. Being an owner of both an E34 and E39, both V8's, my personal preference is for the E34 for a variety of reasons. 1. I prefer the older square styling of the E34, maybe a trow back to the 80's when all the cool cars were hard edged and boxy. 2. Its a more engaged drive, well the E34 in manual is hands down better than the E39 sludgy box. Having driven both in auto the E39 is far more refined, but for me its nice not great. The E34 in auto is not even close to comparable to the manual. 3. The E34 has been a much better car to own and the build quality in my opinion and experience is better. Both E39's I've owned have had much higher rates of ancillary part failures. If you were talking M5's I think I'd lean towards the E39. I'll qualify that statement with the fact that you buy an M5 in full knowledge that it's going to come with M cost.
  12. I have a two post Molnar hoist that needs to go. Was purchased with a mate with great intentions but priorities have changed as they do. $250 and it yours. Was told the cable had been replaced and ram serviced prior to me getting it, but I've no documentation, so comes with no guarantees. Can still get parts from Molnar for these (lift pads etc). It is electric / hydraulic (ram drives the cable). Electric motor is 3-phase, you could swap out the motor for a single phase of the same hp? At some point someone has welded RHS to the posts with lock out pins so its can't drop. Will need to be picked up with a car trailer with a tilt deck and winch. We dragged it up with a hand winch without too much hassle. As best I can find out from uncle Google, specs should be as follows; Lifting Capacity 3000 kg Minimum Lifting Time 27 seconds Footprint 3250 x 1200 mm Length 1200 mm Overall Width 3250 mm Height 2770 mm Width Between Posts 2650 mm Drive Through Width 2420 mm Maximum Raised Height 1900 mm Minimum Lowered Height 110 mm Motor Power 415 V Standard (240 V Optional) Hydraulic Oil 5 litres ( 46 Weight / High Quality / Anti-Wear) Pack Dimensions W 4000mm x D 1200mm x H 600mm Pack Weight 722 kg
  13. Shuffled all 4 5's around in the driveway (one by pushing into the shed...). Got a bit pissed off with all the bloody plants the wife has in front of the garage making the whole exercise a series 25 point turns so did a burnout, much to the enjoyment of our 4 year old..... Started my new E34 project too.
  14. much like!! Pretty sure I've been driven over that hill in a factory 1968 Ford GT40.

  19. Just be mindful insulating around light fittings if you have a ceiling and recessed lights. Some info here, will be the same if you're using other brands. http://www.pinkbatts.co.nz/installing-insulation/installation-instructions/
  20. Awesome! Handicap spaces for handicap faces.....

  22. No maintenance or improvements, but spent the weekend driving the 540 (occasionally in anger) around the Matakana, Leigh, Omaha area. Every time I drive it I'm reminded just what a great car the E34 is.
