  1. What kind of E36? Wasn't there a bit of teething problems with the 91/92 VANOS 6 cyl engines in the E36/E34? Personally I would get a NZ new E30 325 manual, which will probably be more economical, quicker, and cheaper to fix and service over an E36 6cyl, not to mention the purchase price of both models. E36 318s are probably slower than E30 318's, and seem to be the cheapest E36s. Mint E30 for 5 grand at the most, or a dodgy E36 for 8k at the least?
  2. Our E34s interior would probably hold up better in the long run As for the looks, I would prefer an interesting looking car over a boring looking car. I find all of Bangles cars 'interesting' and all of Toyotas cars just plain f**king boring. Which would you rather have/look at? Same deal with the new Renault Megane. But if it was my money, I would save a good 200k and get...
  3. Dunno aye, just saying what happened with my old E30. The new owner said that the thumping went away after that mount was replaced, but the thumping only happened in slow traffic, not cornering or anything. Could be worth a look for troubleshooting anyway.
  4. Ohh yeah, sorry but forgot to mention on the problem that we both have/had could be anything from the air box onwards, like Carl said. Just my luck to get the most expensive fix, hopefully yours is a bit easier on the wallet. As for your second problem, my old E30 manual had a shunting from the back (we thought it was the diff) during traffic speeds, depending on how I used the clutch (like in/out with the clutch in 2nd gear at speeds up to 10-15kmh). Well, it turned out it was an engine mount, which was supposedly sending movement down the drivetrain Not too sure if this would apply to your car, cos isn't it an auto? :mosh: Thats my mates and mine favourite donut spot. I'm not looking foward to the day they pave that place.
  5. I most probably would have seen you at Manfield on Sunday? f**k those RX7s did some good drifts on that day :mosh:
  6. I had the same problem as your first one, I think. I discovered it when at idle it sounded as though it had a hot cam in it, it had a chugging nosie, like it was running on 5 cylinders. It turned out to be a intake manifold gasket, which cost around $360 to fix. If you stick your head near it, you should be able to hear a hissing noise, my f**ked gasket was at the back end of the engine. As for service, I take mine to Antonnel and Park off Webb street, the street opposite Auto bodies, can't remember the name. They do all sorts of European cars, but mostly bimmers and mercs from what I've seen. My mums friend also takes their 500SL Benz there too :mosh:

    For $10k

W126 560 SEL Benz, didn't want an auto for everyday and huge gas bills, for a 16 y/o anyway. W116 450S, same reason as above W124 300E, no manual Jeep Cherokee or Nissan Patrol, shithouse handling and ride quality, only as a second car. VQ Holden Statesman V8, or NL Ford LTD V8, didn't want the bogan image, or to be associated with any childish Holden v Ford bullshit. I gave all those cars some serious thought before buying my E34.
  8. aliluya, is your car a 318 compact or 325 compact?
  9. Pfft, Ford America could never build something like the Australian Falcon. No, if you want an example of cost cutting, check out old Mercedes v the new sh*t (I'll shoot myself if any new E or S class will stand up like the old W126, 140 or 124). Although I havent checked one out, I've read that interior of the new 5, X3 and 6 is pretty sh*t for BMW standards too.
  10. Yeah I saw you giving it a bit of tit from the lights on Victoria st on Saturday. I'm sure it was you.
  11. Apparantly those BA Falcons are getting real bad rust problems underneath the panels, much worse than the VT-VX Commodores where they would rust on the underside and around the A-pillars and windscreen. Wonder if we'll see these still serving as taxis in 7+ years time.
  12. Yeah, you'd be looking at nothing more than 4 grand. Thats what i got for my 16th bday, and it was all good, until I got sick of a small and slow car, so 8 months later came trade-in time...Dunno what all these myths are about regarding unreliable BMWs. Do your homework and you should be sweet. Don't rush in.
  13. we drove that sh*t constantly, absolutely everywhere, our arms didn't ache, harden up , i drove it for round an hour and a half out through the back of pongaroa all the way to feilding, mostly windy sh*t, tis a mint car, just don't hurry it and its good (i.e: slow)mechanically good, big dent in sump from washed out culvert on gravel road, paint tints, rangi wired on muffler, black wheels, no carpet, lots and lots of detonation, "turbo timer" - running on.... bring it to feilding on the mega meet and i'll drive it to taupo, show ya how the desert road should be driven! :mosh: sigma makes me wanna rock out with my cock out, lovin it, OFFICIALLY THE MOST RELIABLE CAR SPARKLE HAS EVER OWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Meh my arms were only sore for about a couple of minutes after I got out, just like after go-carting, but not many cars would do that to me after 200km.But yeah, as CaM said, bloody good car. While working I'm putting an easy 50km on it a day. Does good drifts on wet round-abouts too, and is a good eye catcher, for all the wrong reasons (shes bloody loud)
  14. that would be ideal - any ideas if it WOULD make it back to Auckland? Easy. She goes hard, doesn't smoke too... Apart from the rear tyres on wet road paint :mosh:
  15. You can buy Sparkles old Sigma off me for 400, thats what I paid for it. I'm guessing you want it to be local tho, and you don't wanna be driving that piece of sh*t to Auckland (Palmy-Wgtn had my back and arms aching). :mosh:
  16. dude a Daihatsu MOVE! performs better than an m5 "for it's price" I'd expect.... those things make more power per litre than a v8 "supercar" You know what I mean.As for the V8 'Supercars'... 620 hp from 5 litres About the whole ohv thing, I just get sick and tired of hearing the same old sh*t over and over again. Sure it doesn't have the technology of a Skyline GTR, S2000 or M3/5, as its not supposed to, defeats the whole purpose, but f**k, atleast GM are showing the it still can be done (actually, so is Dodge, TVR and Bently, to name a few), and are giving it to some of the 'advance' competition in the process. Seriously, out of all the people that go off about pushrods, on forums and real life, most seem to drive little Hondas, Toyotas etc. who think that hp/L is the greatest measurement around, cos thats all the only thing that makes their cars look good, on paper. Yet they will give sh*t to a Corvette or Viper because where the cam is positioned :gay: I think I've already posted this. The mighty Windsor sitting next to the 4.6 dohc from the Mustang. Just a pic I find quite interesting :mosh:
  17. A bit of an exageration I suppose, but I won't be suprised if it will out perfom the M5, for the price atleast. The new GTS is supposed to be getting a 7.0L alloy pushrod V8, something like a 7000rpm limit, 500hp and I would imagine a bit more torque than the M5. But yeah, an M5 has something that a Holden never will. But why would they do that? They can't afford to, and the stuff they get from other GM/Ford companies is better than anything they could make. Apparantly, it was all over for Ford Australia if the BA turned out like the AU (sales flop), so them making a car a car for a smaller market share just wouldn't be viable, would it? Well, Range Rover and Roll Royce couldn't make their new cars so I suppose its alright for Holden/Ford. Don't know why everybody goes on about how advanced over head cams are. The two designs (ohv & ohc) are about 5 years apart, with ohv being the first, in the mid 1900s I think. But hey, if it aint broke, don't fix it, right? Thats what GM has done, and look at their 'old' new LS2. Shitting all over Ford and their DOHC so called 'BOSS' engines. It should be a different story when Ford finally get some VVT in there, but as of now, those three extra cams and 16 extra valves aren't doing sh*t, apart from adding to the weight, physical size and complexity. True, too many sheep for my liking. But if you were a new car buyer, it would be hard to overlook their bang for bucks.
  18. Laugh if you want, but have you seen the specs for this engine supposedly going into the next GTS? They get a new platform next model upgrade (06), not the sloppy thing they are based on now, so your opinion might change by the time it lands.
  19. :gay: Just wait a couple of years. The upcoming HSVs are going to rape the M5. GM (Bob Lutz) has already said he is going to build a motor to compete with the M5s V10, without all the tech as we all know its not necessary, for a Chev/Holden anyway :mosh: I've got a vid of a stock XW GT 351 going round Bathurst, and f**k its the best sounding engine I've ever heard, seriously My bad, when I said anything older is :puke: , I was thinking of the everyday VLs, VNs, EAs etc. Now they are sh*t heaps. Atleast they never stop running.
  20. Up to you man, but that 5 series looks as though it would go for at least 7k. With that sorta dough, I'd be looking at a NZ new 535i. Probably have more kays, but even though I haven't driven one, I think an auto 525i would be a bitch. In terms of performance and fuel economy. My manual 525i is slow enough as it is off the line, and I don't have a TQ to kill the fun , so I would hate to think about the autos (probably with much longer gear ratios too)If it were me, I would probably spend a bit more for gas and get a 535, but you should test em both, make a decision then.
  21. Hey, nothing wrong with that. I was 16 when I bought my 525i back in May Whats your budget? Last week there was an E32 750 (V12!) on trade me for 8 grand. Theres also another mint black one on there for around 10k too, 7 months too late for me, so heres your chance...
  22. aye I was suspicious how all those dents got there. As for the question though, no. Just inside wheelspinng it up Wellingtons hills in 2nd. Goddamn live axel struggles to get the power down
  23. Great head turner Three months till demo derby :mosh:
  24. E39 5 series got a 4 star EuroNCAP, or 74%. I would think the E60 is better. Remeber the E39 came out in 1995, I'm looking at a 2002 source, so thats not bad.
