welders are great and i like doing things myself too. more skills are always good. Eventually i want to get good so i can make engine mounts headers and crossmembers.anyway figured somebody might like to know how it goes incase other want to do the same. i do plan on removing the exhaust before i start any welding to make life easier

Howdy all Today i picked up some Rage Resonators for my E30 $58 each which is reasonable, hopefully i will fit them myself and let you guys know how hard it was to do before i get flamed i have had advice from an exhaust tech on the correct fitting, and have been given plenty of scrap exhasut tube so i can practice my welding before deciding to go ahead or wuss out ! Dads welder is a nice one too. at the moment with no cat converter and a stuffed muffler it sounds horrid. if the pic uploads thats how i plan to fit them, same spot as the cat used to be as its the striaghtes piece of pipe so yeah will take pics if i get round to it and perhaps do a mini write up if somebody cared !

don't know how it works up north but at Ruapuna they have a racing school which caters from the odd weekend warrior to full professional racing tutoring sessions. A phone call to your nearest race track might get you some good info

hmm, stuff Perhaps i will come across a later type complete 2.5 engine at some stage whats it like on the electronics side of things running a 2.5 in a 320 body/injection gear. I know there is at least one member on here with that setup but ive forgotten the user ID

a quick note on curbage and that, a while back my mate got some hotwries for his starlet and they were a bit scuffed up and we had them welded up all around the curbed area's and then spun up on a lathe to get the lips perfect again , then they were static balanced before going to the wheel shop to be properly balanced . this seems like a lot of work but it made for a perfect set of mags.

Hi guys I have a few questions about cylinder heads and blocks for m20 engines. My car is a 1990 E30 2.0 , motronic ECU and it has the later style 89" head and manifolds with the better ports/exhaust manifold. would there be any reason i could not simply bolt my head and manifold onto a 2.5 block and keep my current ecu inlet manifold and other accesorines? Reason being my exhaust manifold has been surfaced to perfect flatness, my head has been rebuilt, skimmed and valves seated. and my rocker gear is also in nice condition. I believe all i would need to do is fit the correct size injectors and perhaps fit the air flow meter from a 2.5 and i would be good to go providing these will work with the existing ECU.( which they probally won't what issues are there with doing that ?) i don't see 2.5 engines on trademe often what are they worth roughly ? any feedback appreciated. I'm pretty handy rebuilding engines, so ive no worries to do the work. I really just want to know if it does work and what other people have done.

195 tire on a 9" rim ...why ? I would like 345 rubber on a 10.5 rim My Z31 comes with 225 rubber on a 6.5 rim as factory For skinny rims the tires look nice and fat ! Is there some reason for stretching tires ? I hear bits about autocross drivers do it for handling reasons for less give in their tires and more control or something ....

If it burned out a 30A fuse thats a huge current through the car, possible it caused other damage !

What sort of RPM was it doing at 100kmh with a manual gearbox ? and whats the acceleration like compared to a 3.9 diff ?

Super good work on the homemade job mike Next time you do a set you should get somebody to do you a cad design of it for a few beers or something , then we could buy the plans from you so we could have them made up. -
now this is just my 2c and probally not to be taken seriously I think recovery partitions suck, and what i like to do is to get the windows disc and version that applies formatt the whole hdd using the windows setup (doing a full formatt not a quick formatt ) and downloading all the drivers from the manufacturs or computers website and install the lot. This in not very practical as if the computer has a recovery partition it wont have the disc and secondly its a pain in the arse because you need to go through device manager and find all your hardware But it does give you a good clean copy of widows which will usually start up faster and run smoother with all the latest drivers and it dosn't install half of the rubbish that you find on pc's which come pre loaded. Ie we all have our prefferred applications and such. again not practical but very effective for sorting out problems

Modified E30: What would you do if you had the money?
tibbs.james replied to m_power's topic in General Discussion
hmmm Dream E30, is there such a thing ? i would go an buy a ferrari daytona instead but for an E30 Start with a 4WD touring shove a high revving 600hp DOHC v8 in there, custom suspension with double wishbones coilover shocks and all the goodies, brembo brakes that fill up 17" wheels and keep the rest looking like a stock bmw, But with M3 leather seats, Ok so going for the sound like a mclaren go like a mclaren and look like an e30 -
When my old din 55 clapped out i took my car into a battety place and a din 66 slotted in there perfectly, 1990 E30 btw, i can't remember what brand but the bigger battery seemed like a no brainer for the extra $10

I am Running stock 14" weaves with 195/65/14 rubber, but i am due for an alignment as its pulling a bit left and has been for some time. i might take the wheel off tonight and see if i can see any rubbing on the tire or chassis.

As the title says I am getting a grinding noise while im turning hard to the left like you would while in a carpark, it does not do this while steering to the other side. My dad seems to think it could be a wheel bearing or a ball joint that is causing the problem but i don't see how that could be happening. Any advice would be well appreciated Car is a 1990 E30
-
Yeah i will have spent around $2000 on the car once the box is in i might like it lots better.

Howdy guys I have had my E30 320i for 12 months now, and was thinking about a bigger car ( don't get me wrong i love my E30 ) Its a 1990 Jap import 4 door Diamond Swartz metallic Leather Seats ABS Very Tidy inside Very straight panals outside (one small dent in door) 14" basket weaves and nearly new rubber all around Reconditioned Cylinder head and cam belt water pump ect all done at same time Brand new Battery Rebuilt Getrag 260 to be slotted in in the next month or so with all reconditioned master cylinders and new clutch also. My question is how much is it worth Its done 140,000 kms had regular serviceing with good oils and filters , I have recepits for all the work completed (soon to get the bill for my gearbox) If i did sell i was thinking i would want around $4500 considering its a tidy car and had plenty of work done and been well kept. Does that sound greedy ? For anything less i think i would want to keep it and contine having fun driving a wonderfull car. I would really like a tidy 530i with leather and a towbar whats your thoughts guys

You would be doing very well to do that yourself for $7k I think its very well done, and those gauges do not look too bad, at least it dosn't have the massive tach mounted on top of the dash "honda style" I hope he gets his $7k i would certainly love a car like that Does anybody know what mag wheels those are ?
-
It looks like a tidy swap, but surley after going to that effort he could have done an EFI setup, I can understand rotary engines in starlets, corolla's, and other early jap rwd cars. How far would $3500 go for getting some more HP from an S50 mill ? i could see that doing a head rebuild, cams and a computer for it ! and it would still be all BMW
-
I think if there is proof of previous registration in nz then its not too bad But i think if its something that has been imported and dosn't meet safert regulations then its dam near impossible

I love my acer It makes a good Autocad, inventor polytech/study machine. And now i can browse bimmersport and trademe on the sofa ! using Super PI 1.5 doing the 1M calculation it does 26 seconds My old AMD barton 2500+ with 1gb duel channel ram and a ati 9600pro did it in about 59 seconds so the laptop its a hell of a lot faster !

ouch don't hit any pedestrians

Hey guys I just went and picked up my brand new acer 6460 core 2 duo laptop and im stoaked, the high res screen is great and its a lot faster than my old desktop (barton 2600+ with radeon 9600 pro and igb ram) And its even got serial for when i decide to get into a bit of ecu tuning for my 300zx! here is the specs http://www.acer.co.nz/acer/akc/marcom.nsf/...t=13.1.1.1& igot it at a really good deal( Friends with the owner of a computer business )

Sounds like a cool swap, nissan powerplants are awways a good start ! A good way to start would be to speak to your local vechicle certifier At the end of the day you will need to get a cert anyway so why not get some good advice for doing the swap, plus he will have good ways to measure things up for fitting the engine and good imformation on driveshaft angles and engine mounts Also if you read up on the LVVTA website you might get some good idea's too hopefully this helps I would like to do a vg30dett into an e28
