Box of Parts arrived on Friday that I'd ordered about a week before. The main thing of interest for me, the new Engine and Gearbox Mounts. Also pictured is a new bonnet strut, it was only about $5, so I thought, why not, mines stuffed. Not sure if you can see on this Pic, but in real life the engine mount looks squashed. New Dizzy Cap and Rotor As you can see, the engine needs a bit of a clean, oneday hehe. Hopefully after the engine mounts are installed in the next couple of days I rid the car of an annoying vibration issue which happens when driving or when sitting idle at the traffic lights with the car in Neutral, ie not drive train related. I suspect it will help as if you get someone to rock the engine while its running the vibration you feel in the car changes. I also have a new waterpump, cambelt, tensioner, however I forgot to order some new oil seals that I will change while doing this job, but I think i'll just get those locally.

Looks like its time to call them. I was eager to get that installed too..

I've found some odd things in cars over the years too. The thing I love about E30's is that they are a never ending project, there's always something else you want to do.
-
Yeah, I was thinking that too, I ordered some new ones last weekend, for the gearbox and engine.. Hopefully that sorts it..
-
That is rather cool, i'd love to have that engine too

Well, hours later, the Central locking is now working, cleaned all the metal contacts in the door connector, didn't fix, did the loop wire mod from e30zone (cut red and black wires at the loom going to the door connector, solder together) now works like a charm.
-
An hour ago I started to attempt to fix my Central Locking on my E30, so far no go, but trying tricks from e30zone wiki

Doh, sorry bud, already ordered on Friday, the shipping is always the killer eh, next time I'll ask you if you want anything.

I imported mine from autohausaz.com as locally they were $$$ from Miles Continental. In a way the worse thing about ours was the auto tranny, it had been recond before we got the car, but annoyingly no one had ever changed the diff oil (the auto tranny had separate diff oil to the auto tranny oil) the diff got quite noisy and was full of metal shavings once I worked it out, the car only had 120,000k on the clock, the engine ran well and it was a nice car on a trip. But ours was off the road more then it was on the road sadly, my partner got annoyed and we sold it, ironically the Merc 190E we replaced it with has been perfect, but on paper they are probably worse. Diff noise

I had a VR6, don't do it. Unless you want to take the entire dash out and replace the heater core (I had to do this) and then replace every plastic coolant pipe and the thermostat housing etc until you find that you are not losing coolant.. I liked VW's until i had this car, actually, i'd still like a mk1 or mk2 GTi again (used to have a Mk2 GTI, loved that car). Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Have you got a Pic of how the car looked with this setup?

These have to be one of my favourite all time M cars

You will be sad to see if go I bet, but now you can start again with something else

I want to improve the handling of my E30 without spending too much. Would this be any good? http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-22130-e3...on-package.aspx It seems they are doing a deal on it at the moment.

No Real progress to speak of, Miller haven't sent me my MAF conversion yet, that is they haven't replied to me emailing them asking if its on its way.. My exhaust is secure and was repaired about 6 Months ago, I don't think the exhaust could cause an intermittent problem that only occurs after 20-30mins of driving, it would be all the time surely Cheers

I still haven't worked this out. When I have the fault occurring I can feel the vibration and hear the noise in the car. (This is sitting on the drive way not going anywhere, but revving the engine around 1500-1800rpm ish.). If I open the bonnet and listen for the noise within the engine bay I can't hear it, only the valve train noise of the M20. I disconnected the A/C compressors belt, but that wasn't it, Tuesday I'll change the P/S Fluid, but I doubt that's it.. What ever the fault is, it occurs after a good drive for 20-30mins, something getting hot/warm and playing up. But what possibilities are there? Alternator?, waterpump? power steering pump? Viscous Fan? Flywheel? clutch bearing? What else can I check..

Still have 2x of these. $40 incl P&P

1st Dyno run completed, 102kw at the wheels, pretty good for a 23 year old stock standard E30 325i. It got a bit rich in the top end, 11.9 AFR, but low and mid range was pretty much Spot on apparently. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I know what you mean about them being small, I only just fit in mine really.. rather snug fit. With the Sports seats you feel like you are almost touching the interior door panels.. For me its just about the Fun factor of them mostly. My UK Import wasn't bad for rust, was all fixable for under $800, incl sunroof, around rear tail lights (inside boot).
-
Part of the reason I'm doing the conversion is that I suspect the AFM is a bit passed its use by date, but I'll know tomorrow morning once I do a stock Dyno run. I suspect the W.A.R chip tuning is more worth while once you add bigger injectors, better cam etc. I have not ordered the war chip part of it as yet, just the MAF with chip for a stock M20B25. Cheers

I just put a bid on it, but no doubt I'll end up being outbid soon

Hmmm, well its not a drive line vibration, only thought it was due to feeling it through the entire car once the fault occurs. I worked out today that I can re-create the vibration through the steering once the fault occurs (after 30 mins of driving) by revving and holding the revs from 1500-1750rpm.. when sitting still in neutral, I hadn't bothered trying this before for some reason.. heh. I suspect its the Power Steering fluid causing the issue (Fluid looks as old as the car), or something that's driven off the engine. Next step is to change the power steering fluid and see if it stops the issue occurring.

Since changing the gearbox oil and installing my short shift (soon after) my E30 has developed an issue where the car is fine for the 1st 20mins ish of driving and then gets a vibration through the drive train that can be felt strongly with the engine between 1500-2000rpm, you can feel it through the steering, pedals.. pretty much the entire car. An open road blast can bring this fault on earlier then 20mins, the Centre Support Bearing looks to be ok, that is the rubber surround is fine. The Guilbo also looks fine with no visible damage In my mind the only things causing this could be, CSB, Diff, Gearbox. Surely if the Drive shaft needed balancing I'd get this issue all the time. Could it be the U join? Cheers
