I guess you could get something like this and run it to the AV input on your video module. Digital TV Tuner Although that would only be Terrestrial Freeview and I am not 100% sure NZ system is compatible ?? BTW - Good to hear from you again Sammi - you seemed to disappear after the CHCH earthquake !

Just be careful - unless they have changed their policy, their broadband billing is crap. They bill in 'blocks' and if you run out on the last day of the billing month, they bill you for a new block, and the unused portion is not transferable !! Also EVERY time I have tried to change phone providers at home or work, I spend the next 3 months trying to get everything working right, and the billing fixed up - considering this is what these companies do for a living, I am always surprised how badly they @uck up changeovers  I wonder if they do it on purpose so you can't be bothered changing from them

E39 small monitor to widescreen monitor
camera doctor replied to mossline's topic in Electrical system
Hi, I do not know 100%, but I am fairly sure I read somewere that you can swap as long as you have the 'correct' video module. That WILL NOT give you NZ Sat Nav, it is a separate computer. I have done mine, with a MKIV nav unit ex USA and some modification to the Jap wiring - Grant ( Hotwire ) on here is your man for this. Currently I have the ULF Bluetooth unit in transit to me, which will give me Voice control of the SatNav and Bluetooth handsfree - something for you to consider in the future. Also you can hook up a reverse camera to the Video Module, and it comes on automatically when you go into reverse, works great n the larger screen. Lots of fun upgrading these 10 year old cars, and you end up with all the features that a lot of brand new cars are only just getting now -
Mine is a bit too left I think too - maybe test is somewhat slanted ??

Watched last weeks Top Gear Aussie last night ( Yea I know, but this series has actually been almost watchable! ) The X5M was faster round their track than the M3 :o Looks like BMW need to stuff more HP into the next M3

Wow, amazing what can be done with wireless electronics these days. Every time my BMW comes up with the 50km range warning light , the petrol companies raise the fuel prices ....... :P :P :P

Macbook is more expense at the start, but as it lasts longer you will not have to replace it as soon as you would a Windows machine.

At the risk of being called a fan-boy, I would suggest you look at a Apple MacBook. I have gone thru the whole Windows thing with regard to connecting to TV, and even with HDMI which is meant to be automatic etc, it is always a pain, either the sound does not work, the TV has to be turned on in the right order, I need to go into control panel and dupicate the monitor, force the sound, etc etc.... drives me batty ! I have never had a Windows laptop last more than 2 years, and by then it is running REALLY slow .... But, a year or so ago I bought a Macbook - it is as fast today as it was then, and to watch movies on my TV I plug in the cable and drag the video window over to the TV, and hey, it works !! It may cost you more at the start, but in the long term, it works out cheaper ! And you will love using it in the meantime!

Both E39's I have owned failed in this area. In both cases it was the motor - easy enough to swap out. Get someone to operate the switch while you listen and/or feel the motor to see if it has seized. Depending on year, the motor from the intensive clean is the same, so you can swap and loose the intensove clean for a free repair, or buy a new motor. From memory, new motor from Jeff Grays was around $100, you can probably do better from some of the parts guys on here.

Yes you can, If you think of the ipad as a really big iPod Touch, you can't go wrong. Cause that is really what it is

I have done the interior bulbs in my E39, just take the old ones out, measure the length and buy them ex Trademe or Ebay ( much cheaper ) The SMD types are brighter, and don't go too cheap or they will be blueish, rather than clean white. Interior bulbs can be changed without coding. I much prefer the clean white look, rather than factory yellow incandescents. My number plate light was changed to LED when I fitted reverse camera, so I coded the error out with Navcoder. And I changed the Halos to LED, again no coding, as they are made for this car, and I guess have resistors in them already?

E46 "reassociating" Keyless Entry - Jap Import
camera doctor replied to caleb's topic in Electrical system
Is the car ex Japan ( IRED remote ) or NZ / Euro ( RF Remote ) ?? i.e. do you have the two button remote with red LED and IRED LED at bottom, or the diamond shaped three button fob with BMW rondel ? The programming sequence is slightly different for each. The Jap IRED system has poor range, you realy have to be standing right next to car and point key at the 'Clown Nose' on the rear view mirror. Range is worse in the sun, better ini the dark due to stray IRED from the sun -
The M54B30 engine in my E39 has an oil leak on the passenger side. It is due for an Oil Service, so I figure it is a good time to track it down. Is there a 'common' reason for leaks? It seems to be quite high on passenger side, although all I have done so far is looked with a torch from under the car when the car was on a hoist for towbar fitting. Any experience would be appreciated, thanks.

Is the rest of the car being stripped for parts too ? If so, how much for the ABS/ASC computer ? ( bolted to the Hydro unit, on the front strut ) Thanks

E39 iphone connection to S602 unit.
camera doctor replied to swanman's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
Where did you get the G2 ? Richards' site still lists the old version, and I cannot get any of the USA sellers to send one at a reasonable freight cost ! -

E39 iphone connection to S602 unit.
camera doctor replied to swanman's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
Not sure what a S602 unit is, but on most E39's you can wire a 3.5 into the AV in on the TV Tuner, but you will get mono sound only. The other way is to wire into the tape deck wiring, if you have tape teck, but I did that in my 540i and found that i needed to add a line driver, as the tape inputs are low volume. Currently I have the DICE unit in my 530i and would recomend it, as you get use of the steering wheel controls and display of song playing etc on the dash. -
Yep, I have too much on to que to be told no stock !! ( As happened with iPhone 4 ) Just ordered a white 32Gb online with Orange cover, Camera Kit and HDMI connection kit. A little boy waits ......................

I will be ordering one online, unless it says 5 weeks delay Crappy Apple notification system seems to have worked as well as it did with the iPhone 4 Someone at Apple has decided that keeping your customers in the dark = hype and more sales ??? At least they have allowed us to use the iPhone as a 3G modem, so thankful for small mercies I guess
