After the 3rd unit failure of the ABS module in my 2002 E39 Touring, I decided it was time to go new. I have already tried repaired units and a used unit, but they last about 6 months then fail again. Thanks to link given to me by Grant ( Hotwire ) I ordered a brand new Bosch unit from Germany New ABS Module They take 19% VAT off, which covered the freight. I then ordered one of these Gadgets Car Kracker Using this and NCS Expert, I was able to code the new unit to my car - no more dash lights Car just back from getting a WOF, as it was off the road with ABS lights on the dash. Apparently the Car Kracker can be used as a Music Interface in place of the CD changer too, but I have yet to get this to function. Also you can use it with Navcoder and also recode dash buttons etc.

For those who like Math ...... If we look at the cheapest new M3 Coupe at $160k , and take off the Buynow of 12k, that leaves $148 K depreciation. Car has done 78000k's so that equates to about $1.90 per km :D  :P

I have friends in the car sales industry who say they get plenty of customers coming back with cars they purcahsed running rough after a couple of weeks. In most instances, they trace it to fouled spark plugs, and the customer is running Shell/Z 91 octane. Draw what you like from that .......

I think what they are saying is that all manufacturers will need to comply to a 'standard' diagnostic sytem ( I guess like OBDII was supposed to be ) That way independent garages can invest in one system that will work for all brands. I do not see how that can effect R&D at the different brands ?? No trade secrets are being asked for, just standardisation of diagnostics.

Click link "Massachusetts voters resoundingly passed the “Right to Repair†ballot question, meaning the new law requiring automakers to provide independent repair shops as well as dealers with easy access to the computer codes needed to diagnose complex car problems will need to be reconciled with compromise legislation passed after the ballots were approved. Legislators could also decide to re-approve the compromise. The regulations are the first of their kind in the nation. Under the ballot legislation, automakers are required to make diagnostic and repair information available to independent shops and dealers through a universal system by 2015. The compromise legislation, passed in July, gives automakers until 2018 to comply with new regulations. " Moving in the right direction ?? I see similar restrictions in my repair industry, and it is good to see Govts getting involved.
