No power going to windscreen washer motor - E39
camera doctor replied to vyking56's topic in Electrical system
Have you tried plugging the concentrate motor back in? Perhaps it needs to be there to complete a circuit ( just guessing ) Also try swapping the concentrate and main motors / pumps , they are the same, on mine it was a faulty motor - maybe worth a try in case you are just getting wrong readings on your multimeter. All the best! -
Will adding a cold air box to an E30 gain more power?

Sorry to pick, but I think he has made a big mistake ......... ..... the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car ! :D :D -
Being in the service industry myself, I have learned the hard way that there is no such thiing as good Karma !! Many a time I have tried to help customers ( both businesses and public ) with good deals, not charging the real time spent etc, and just about every time, they will not appreciate it, or worse go buy stuff from opposition companies. I still remember when I fixed photocopiers, we had one a local branch of a NZ wide company, which was on a cash servicing basis - they never wanted to spend any money on it, so for years we kept it going with spit and polish, finally they replaced it with another brand, and told us that our one was a piece of sh*t, even though we had been pleading with them to fit new parts to it !! So, I guess to the original poster - you are not alone, and it is not you - it seems that everybody wants something for nothing, and expect it, and then don't appreciate it!!

Customs / IRD will not chase GST if the GST is under NZ$50 So, your 30 sets at NZ $30 each WILL be over $50 GST, so what you can do is ask the supplier to put the declared value at a low enough value to go under the IRD value ( i.e. under NZ$400 which is about US$ 280, so ask them to say US$250 ) --- Didn't hear this from me

Switch obtained from Brent, fitted today, so far so good. Did think that the T30 bolts holding the black plastic cage around the switch was a bit of German Overkill!

Cheers Heath, So, what you are saying that is I disable DHCP on the 2nd Router ( the wireless one ) then I should be all good ?

My Accountant is putting me onto a new Web Based Cashbook system, so I thought I’d actually use the Laptop that the business paid for, for work !! So…. I need to add wireless to our network at work. Currently we have a ADSL Modem / 1 port Router going thru a 15 Port Switch, all wired. If I add a Wireless unit at the end of one of the switches cables, this SHOULD give me wireless, but a bit of quick Googling suggests that using a Wireless router is not the BEST solution. But – I can get a wireless router a lot cheaper than an access point – I guess they sell more, hence lower cost! The suggestions on the net is that I turn off DHCP on the wireless unit, and set the gateway to the router address – I can’t see why this would cause any issues – perhaps when they say it is not ideal, they are talking about networks with heavy traffic?? Your thoughts?

You won't regret it Glenn. Interestingly I stayed at a B&B in Perth recently, and there was a photographer staying there who worked for National geographic, Discovery Channel etc doing wildlife photos. He purchased very expensive lenses, but just used the D5000 as his camera - he said it did everything he needed and was 1/2 ( or less ) the weight of the Pro models!!

I found one in Dunedin, went down to collect it on Tuesday The 540i pulled it like dream, could hardly tell it was there! Pulled out to pass a truck on a hill, expected sluggish response, but no, it pulled away as if nothing was on the back! Set the trip computer there and back, got 31 MPG on the way down and 22.5MPG on the way back with Pop-Top in tow and AC on ( was not on on way down ) Considering I get a City/Highway Average of 18MPG, I didn't think it was too bad! Temp gauge did not move, which was a relief, as last two cars I towed with got very hot and blackened gearbox oil, even with extra Heavy Duty Coolers!! Anybody wanna swap a 540i sedan for a E39 Touring??? I can see the boot being a bit snug for gear

On the way back from Dunners last week, we stopped for a break, and when we got back into the car ( 1996 E39 540i ) the car would not start. The ignition switch felt 'strange' and no starter action - the rear window blind did start to go up by itself, which was strange! After some thumbling around, pulling key out and in several times, it worked, and has done so since. But - is this a 'common' filure - should I be replacing the switch? i have noticed that intermittantly the car does not start with the key a certain way around, but have just put this down to a worn key on one side. A quick Google found this : Faulty Ignition/Starter Switch Model: BMW 5 Series (E39), BMW 7 Series (E38) Complaint: A possibility of poor contact in the ignition/starter switch through production tolerances could lead to problems starting the vehicle at a later date. Remedy: Utilize the ‘Service Menu’ of the Dealer Communication System, and based upon the response of the system either proceed with corrective action, or take no action at all. If corrective action is necessary then replace the ignition/starter switch. Please note: The switch must not be mounted with its weight on one side, therefore tighten the two grub screws alternately to avoid misaligning the switch. Before the cable connector is connected check the ignition key snaps back from position 3. What sort of coin am I looking at, and would I need a new key or some sort of re=programming? TIA

Welcome Don't be so tough on it - looks great in the Pics I've seen a lot worse than that !!

Glenn, plus one to the above comments - that is, your lenses will work if they are off an EF Canon 35mm, but there is a conversion factor due to the digital sensor being smaller than 35mm film. Personally, I have a 20D, and used to have the 18-55 and a 55-200, but found I hated carrying two lenses and therefore always had the wrong one with me!! I now have a Tamron 18-240mm lens, which does the job of both - not the 'fastest' lens, but fine for family shots, holiday snaps etc. Let me know if I can help with prices etc, often I cannot beat the prices from the Big Box or Parallel/Trademe stores, but I am willing to look up prices for you, and hand on to you. Cheers Greg

Hi all, Looking to buy a cheap Pop-Top type caravan or Trailer camper ( the tent built onto a trailer sort of thing ) Been watching Trademe, but people seem to be unrealistic re prices, I can buy a brand new Trailer camper from Smiths city for less than 5K and get 30 months to pay, and people are asking 3- 4k for 30 year old pop-tops! Not scared about doing some tiding up, but would prefer the canvas is in OK order. PM me if you have anything cluttering the driveway !!! Cheers Greg

Have you seen this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-E34-E36-E46-E39-...1014154001r6376 You would need to inform any subsequent purchasers of your car, or remove it when you sell the car, as is a safety issue for kiddie seats.

Problem with that is that 10 1GB blocks is more expensive than 1 10Gb block. I would rather they either put me back to dialup speed, or let me control it via a web interface like Xnet do !! I talked to them about it, but they said no, in fact the guy on the phone said HE would rather a system like that, but the bosses say NO

Hi Guys, I have finally finished the 12 month contract that I was duped into with Telstra Clear, and are now looking to get out from them, mainly because of the way they bill - they sell 10Gb 'blocks' so if you go over by 1kb on the last day of the billing month, they charge you for another 10Gb !! I used to be with Xnet, but did get a LOT of dropouts, and my Mum and Bro-in-law who are still with them are currently complaining of the same issues. So, what suggestions do you guys have - most months I use between 20 and 30 Gb. TIA Greg

Welcome Frank from a E39 owner. Mine is a 540i sedan, but I would gladly swap it for a Touring Would be interested in details of the MP3 stacker unit you have fitted / trialed. Member Jochen on here is very clever regarding electronics on the E39, so watch out for his posts. Greg -
