A spokeswoman for Transport Minister Steven Joyce said no legislation had been drafted outlawing radar detectors, but it would be considered under the review. Last year, then Transport Safety Minister Harry Duynhoven unveiled a package of road-safety measures targeting young drivers and those who sped. These included banning radar detectors and jammers. National's then transport spokesman, Maurice Williamson, opposed the move, saying "people use them to moderate their speed". "I'm not sure that a Big Brother attitude is a good thing." Canterbury road policing manager Inspector Derek Erasmus said radar detectors did not prevent motorists from getting caught. "I issued a speeding ticket to a person last Thursday who was in a rental car and the person had come from out of town and brought their radar detector with them. They don't necessarily make any difference other than to show a proclivity on behalf of the driver to speed." Police officers ticketing people for speeding regularly saw radar detectors, he said. "Some people think it will enable them to speed and endanger the public without getting caught, but that's not necessarily the case." Police would be targeting speeding motorists over the next six months, particularly around schools, Erasmus said. In Canterbury, fatalities related to speeding or travelling too fast for the conditions rose to 23 in 2008 compared with 13 the previous year. For the past five years there had been an average 200 speed-related injury crashes per year, Erasmus said. Superintendent Dave Cliff, the Canterbury district commander, said police would adopt a "no-tolerance approach" to speeding motorists. "We are very clear on what we want to achieve. The crash-impact speed decides the severity of injury to vehicle occupants, pedestrians or cyclists. The lower the impact speed, the less likely the injury will be severe or fatal." Canterbury has the highest average speeds on urban and rural roads in New Zealand, with 42 per cent of drivers exceeding the 100 kmh open-road limit and 73 per cent exceeding 50 kmh.

I've been looking for someone to do a valuation(insurance purposes) for a while now(all be it not very hard), tried the dealer and they said as they haven't sold the sort of car for almost 20 years they couldn't give me an accurate price and said to call a classic car valuer. I agree that it will definitely be worth your while getting a valuation as it will be 'worth' more than 5k

Go to M42club.com heaps of info there. Agree 180rwhp will be difficult without FI or big $$$. I cant think of antything cheap which will get you much noticable power difference Also remember weight loss is great for acceleration so try to do a bit of stripping.

Really?BMW Chch told me i'd need to see a classic car valuer because it was "too old." Might have to get a valuation at some stage as i feel its under insured

From Chch dealer they are 370.76+gst and i haven't seen two many second hand ones so may have to look overseas if you don't want to pay that much.

Get a stand alone. Sure it'll cost more initially but in the long run it'll be better. Get a second hand one and a decent tune shouldn't be close to 3k. Someone else will have better knowledge re prices.

$450 for an m42?This is going into an e30 right? If so the m42 may need a different sump as im pretty sure the e36 m42 and e30 m42 are different.

If you want to spend some money get it honed and get custon pistons then you can choose your CR and allow for potentially more boost.

The cost for the extra .2l is probably not worth it. Just turbo the 42 as it is
