$65p/h is a cheap hourly rate. A lot of that you can do yourself, should give it a go

Yea I got it off by putting 2 flywheel bolts in opposite each other and a big screwdriver between them with the end resting on an engine stand mount to lock the crank. Then 1/2 drive with a big breaker bar.

Feeling pretty spesh right now, got it fully dismantled , holding pistons in your hand is fun. Very surreal for a no0b like myself. The wear looks fairly extensive. The crank bearing oil holes are all ovaled out. A LOT of lateral play between conrod and piston. Cylinders possibly out of round. Bearings I dunno eally what to look for. That cank pullry bolt is an absoulte bitch... apparently its tourqed to 190Nm, I wouldn't be suprised.

Hellz yea. Keep the badge, auto tranny and bottlecaps on.

You scored a total of 48 The Lively Center of Attention Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who's constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding; someone who'll always cheer them up and help them out How does how you sleep have anything to do with it. Its bullshit. Dr. Phil is a honky too.

Holy cheap car batman! Are you tempted Paul?

lol good call! I also took the air box out to replace the oil filter, does that make me retarded twice over? Oh and I think I also have ticky valve eccentrics, so I shall keep you updated on my progress with them

Gus I really like Borbet As but they are heavy. The Borbets for show /street and some 15" weaves that can get damaged for the track would be ultimate. But I've never owned either so worthless comment I suppose. Who else gets a funny feeling when reading a thread like this that makes you remember why you bought an E30 in the first place? I love these threads thank you so much Bravo.

What are brands to steer clear of?

Hmm what would make the M40 different in terms of oil requirements? Does it run a higher CR? My findings for the day.. I ended up scoring 5litres of 15w40 for $36. Page refunded me, but said they have been using 10w30 for years (in the m10b18). Glenn recommended 20w50 and I am sure that is sound advice and I don't want to offend, but it was interesting to note that the people at central Ford/Mazda (where my cousin works and got me the deal on oil) said they don't use 20w50 in cars, and that it is more suited to motorbikes and other higger compression applications? Cheers all.

You could look into hiring a welder. http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....=cancer+surgery ...or if you have a good relationship with a garage maybe try sort something out with paying for the material expenses with cash, and paying for the labor with some of your own - sweeping the place out, doing oil changes, odd jobs, you get the idea.
-
Darn! I was hoping it was going to be E30 biased.
-
We should organise a bimmersport welding course. A mate is doing one now says its great, im very tempted. Welding is probably the most manly skill out.
-
Righto. Hopefully Page will give me a refund. I paid $62 for 4 liltres off them, my cousin can get the same amount for $35 Feedback appreciated.
