this was sold not that long ago on trademe maybe 6-12mths?? -
yes car will sit 20-25mm higher in the front now
-
Auto and manuals use the same bolts
-
what are you doing??? the whole job to get the box off is only about 30min once you lower it down exhaust off first , drive shaft off , lower the box down , use very long extensions , power bars etc to get at all the torx bolts 3 17MM torque convertor bolts first 1 10mm on the tin plate between the engine and trans undo the 3 small 3 14 size at the bottom of the trans then the 2 starter ones 2 12 size for the starter motor (and nuts on the other side if its a 1195 or older model) its tight to get a spanner in there but not imposible. then the 4 large 10 size atthe side and top of the trans , then slide the trans back

looks ok , cheap enough too for a manual car 633i has less power of corse i think about 200hp where as the 635csi have 218hp 310Nm another cheap early one. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-611347341.htm also early ones have funny brake setups .. here's a nice one , easy enough to convert to manual with the correct gearbox and pedal box etc . http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-637561406.htm just be prepaired to keep it a long time and have some money set aside to tidy/service and change/fix things etc

double check where its from lost of imports came from UK in the earlty days if the speedo is in miles then most likely from the uk just check on car jam . where is the car i may know it?? you need to get these cars up on a hoist to check the underside , you can spend a lot of money on rust etc. also yes the later e28 based chasis is normally better bet most body parts , lights , trim is all e24 specific , rare and expensive , mechanical and some electrical stuff is not too bad to get especially if its the later e28 based stuff 1982 onwards
-
whats the problem , are you using the correct size torx sockets 12 and 14 , i use a 2 foot plus long extension , drop the back of the box down and a power bar and away you go . dont forget to undo the torque convertor bolts first

Also have grey rear seats and door cards for sale Sorry just phone pics , can get better ones if needed In papakura 021433600

gave the e28 a quick wash and some uptodate pics

suspension and brakes first , you want all the suspension bushes and ball joints to be nice and tight ,recent wheel alignment , newish sport shocks , maybe tighter springs ? good brake pads /discs and brake fluid , otherwise a few fast laps and your brakes will be shot. then semi slick tyres on some spare rims if there is any money left over

lookin smart , should have called in

just a small update new clutch kit arrived this week so can start the swap etc started with the manual conversion just fitted the pedal box man these e34's are a pain in the a$$ to change the pedal box e36 = 20-30mins for me e34 more like 2 hours and while i was in there changed the fan resistor sword for another as it used to go full fan speed every now and again. to do the pedal box you have to remove the steering collum so you can get the box out . cant just change the pedals as the later boxes dont have the little bracket for the clutch spring to rest on. you also have to remove the glove box etc so you can disconect the brake rod shaft etc so you can push it over to the left far enough to get the pedal box out etc . anyway all done swapped the std 4 spoke steering wheel for a later 3 spoke e36 motorsport type while i had it off etc next start the engine and gearbox swap

correct the v8 large diff has a different input flange on it than the other large case diffs like in a 535i 735i 750i etc . but that part can be swapped over from your old diff, fact is you will strugle to find a v8 lsd anyway , more comon to find a lsd from a e34 535i or maybe 735i 750i etc you can fit a lsd pack to your e34 540i diff from any other large case lsd like found in e28 535i e24 635csi e23 735i e34 535i e32 735i 750i , e31 840i 850i e36 m3 3.2L evo diff etc i will be fitting a lsd unit to my e34 540iT soon i have a lsd pack from a e28 535i which was a 3.07 ratio and fitting that into a e32 750i diff which has a 3.15 ratio and fitting the v8 front flange to that etc or just rip the 3.15 gears from the diff case and fit with the lsd from the 3.07 etc into the e34 540i diff case which has the 2.93 gears in it at the moment. something like this , (not mine) http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/bmw/diffs-axles/auction-641867037.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/bmw/accessories/auction-642700310.htm
