  1. remapped the ecu on the e34 544i see here http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....15&start=15
  2. yup about normal .also the dual mass orginals crap out any way my 544i spins up real quick
  3. ya just missed this nice one http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-346735402.htm maybe go for this one . http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-349865052.htm faster ,lighter and more economical
  4. just make sure the coolant system is all newish and upto date . and some electrics will fail , winodw regs , air bag sensors , abs brains and sensors , heater fan resistors , plastic trims on the seats break , generally all the plastic trims/buttons are pretty weak and often break all the suspension and steering bushes crap out pretty quickly. shocks ,dull headlight lenses, thin easy to crack plastics on the bumpers other than that not a bad car generally parts will cost you abit more and yes the later vanos ones probably a little harder to modify and a few more electrical problems etc and the coolant system runs at a higher temp/pressure so more prone to fail e34 probably a little dated now and plenty of rough sub $1k 525i's driving around . but got voted most reliable bmw ever made , last model of bmw made before the accountants came in and said you building too much quality in your cars and not enough profit they dont really rust (mostly galvanised bodies) they do pretty well in crashes , but also have pretty good handling and brakes to keep you out of crashes etc
  5. hi its the original 3.15 diff that the 530i had .pulls about 2600rpm at 100km/h but your 540i with its 2.93 would be about 2450rpm get one of those light weight ali flywheels while your at it from JB racing etc
  6. thats unfortunate . but that will be the deaf of many e34 540i e32 740i e38 740i and e39 540i in the future oh well at least its pretty easy to swap it out for a manual. very nice with 5 or 6spd . i have a 4.4L and 5spd in my e34 goes well
  7. yes great car . e34 540i will be cheaper to own in the long run , but either car is pretty good . 4.4L has more torque , but e34 parts are way cheaper and they dont break as often . i am enjoying driving my e34 around with the best oif both cars 4.4L 5spd in a cheaper e34 body . dont like gas usage but thats life . its not as quick as my e28 with m5 engine but more usable torque down low where you use it all the time . and great sound track

  9. might pay to mention where you are located??? also what model and engine type it is ??? maybe on of the tappets has come loose (not done up properly or over tightend and stripped the thread)

  12. m20 clutch wont work on m30 flywheel . m30 have a bigger clutch disc etc . auto clutch in morning side have them and he can do beefier pressure plates etc fro a bit more
  13. headers will help , but they cost $600-1000 .open up the exhaust system should be ok . take the cat out if it even has one?? i think any dizzy will do but maybe only bosch is availible 225/55-16" is std e39 size so you should be able to find some . if you want to do track days , get your self some cheap used semi slicks and spare alloys . 225/50-16 will be ok . and maybe swap your main wheels for 17" 235/45 also look at a diff ratio change for better get up and go.
  14. maybe your ICV idle control vlave is sticking (common problem) clean that out . check for vac leaks etc etc
  15. have done a few M30b35 tunes over the years , not a lot of gain to be had with a off the shelf chip if any. a remap should give ok results maybe 5kw more at the wheels and little better torque though the med rev range. i think for these m30 engines a better mod is the "map ecu 2" system or "miller maf " conversions . but they cost about $500-700 etc plus tunning time etc . maybe for that money you could pick up a M30B35 3.5L engine and ecu and just drop that in. that will give a decent kick or power and torque for your money. also remember these m30 engines love a good std tune , new plugs , tappets set correctly , good dizzy and rotor . hot cams can make a defference but the head has to come off and i think 3.5L conversion is better money spent. if you can get yourself a earlier M30b35 from a 1983-1986 535i 635csi 735i etc they have better power due to higher compression pistons than the later engines used in the e34 and e32 models. thats my 2cents worth anyway
  16. just use a thin grinding disc on your grinder and cut the head off the bolt , easist way to do it when then round out . then you can just pull the half shaft off and then turn the old thread out by hand. good work though , engine looks nice

    E28 GOODIES

huh??? i dont have a e38 or e39 or a 540is i do have a e34 530i with 4.4L fitted still running the mediuma case diff , but yes i could convert it to a large case e34 diff with lsd etc . yes i have sold e34 lsd units to a guy who fitted them into a e38 740i diff
  18. there are 3 threaded holes underneth , just have a look . drill out the shelf above from underneth and your are done

    E28 GOODIES

"will it fit in my e30 or 318i " seems to get asked alot . will those large as leather loungers from a e38 740i fit in my 318i will those 19" by 12" wide et5 fit on my e30 any way good luck with the sale , hard to find large case lsd diffs . will also bolt straight into a late e24 635csi , e23 735i etc you might mention that the lsd pack and gears if needed can be fitted into e32 , e34 ,e31 diffs also i think into the "large" e39 540i or e38 740i diff???
  20. use your old ecu, loom , afm off your old engine. then it should work . as glen said , the newer engine loom and ecu will be looking for a signal from a ews chipped key etc and your older car doesn't have that .
  21. for the 2.8L you will want a e36 328i or e39 528i etc crank . for bigger go for the 3L crank from a e46 330i etc and then bore your block and fit custom pistons etc . i have a 3L block/crank if you need. do search there are few articals on the web
  22. can do a starter motor and clutch kit for a dual mass flywheel . and here is what you need for a flywheel http://www.jbracing.com/flywheel-bmw2.php
  23. just compare the shape to the other lobes.yes you can get them built up and reground etc . or maybe convert it to "i" head and cam .
  24. change over is the 9th month 1998 for the vanos M62B44TUlooks like this
  25. yes hard to find 525e radiators , they are speacial to the 525e . the noise could be a worn camshaft lobe , quite comon on number one cyclinder from lack of oiling at the front due to lack of oil changes and driving slow all the time the lobe will be worn square and the tapping noise is the valve being shut really quickly , eventually the head of the valve will fall off and distroy the engine. check for cam wear . if it looks like this then its stuffed
