probaly not as quick as your audi turbo . but at least the engine has the correct number of cylinders and drives the right wheels but the engine and trans are pretty basic units . pretty reliable , just keep up the servicing oil etc, keep them cooL!!! thats the only time these engines give any trouble when a simple thing like a failed water pump , hose , thermostat or radiator give out and people keep driving them till they are stuffed. maybe price wise about $6-7k

not sure where it is , but i have one still in the car . http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E39/Seda...rbon_container/

nice car . also check/replace the PCV valve at the back of the inlet manifold . they fail , letting oil into the inlet manifold from the crankcase, causes white smoke at start up and a rough idle. its well documented on the net on how to fix the headrests. http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/page_33.htm http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/5326 also a goodsite for suspension/ wheels stuff http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main.html

i hope its not stuffed , cracked head etc . get it sorted properly a tow is much cheaper than an engine . check viscous clutch on fan . water pump , jammed thermostat. make sure its bled properly .

just ran my 92 325i 5spd coupe on a dyno today just see where its at , so i can compare it later with the 328i coupe i am moding etc . the 325i had a chip installed by previous owner , i converted it to a manual using a lighter 320i m20 flywheel and 325i clutch and a e36 320i gearbox sleightly louder rear muffler . 3.15 ratio diff. peaked 111kw at about 6000rpm

swap e34 gear lever shifter parts for a e28 shifter parts. thne your gearlever will be in the right place
-
not the ones i have seen e32 735i and 750i 740i all 28mm thick in the front . and vented in the rear just like the 540i etc

a later e28 e23 e24 engine is still a good choice they make more power and torque than the later engines, they use 10:1 compression pistons . but the e34 /e32 engines have a better tidier engine loom and run later motronic 1.3 etc . best combo is e28 /e23 /e24 84 onwards engine with e34/e32 loom and ecu set up .
-
yes only the inlet valve is 1mm larger on the later 87 e32 - 88 e34 onward engines and maybe sleightly bigger porting on those too. not sure about the coolant thing though , i have the later e28 e24 e23 heads look much the same as the e34 and e32 heads . the e28 has a little water pipe fitting coming off the back of the head but the e34/e32 just has a blanking plate bolted to it to cover the hole http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E28/Seda.../cylinder_head/ http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E32/Seda.../cylinder_head/ or are refering to the early 3.5L engines from about 1979 to 1982/83 etc which have different water jackets, different bore stroke ratio etc etc
