the manual 325i
-
reminds me of this sort of work and after a bit of time travel
-
the 6speed is longer beacuse of the extra gear and size of the gears , very similer insides to teh 6spd used in the e34 3.8M5 e31 840ci and 850csi and also the e36 ,e46 M3 3.2L , but only the v8 bellhousing will work with the v8

530i 730i 535i 735i v8 gearboxes fit the 4L v8 m60 engine . 5spd box is a 1:1 top gear . so low ratio diff is the prefered option . flywheels and clucthes vary in diameter depending on what power the engine had , 3L 4L m5 etc use different size but all flywheels will bolt up ;. and you can buy clutches locally to suit the power. you can even buy light weight kits out of the usa. i would use the cheaper 5spd box its smaller which makes it easier to fit into a e30 or e36 . then use a 2.93 or 3.15 ,3.25 diff to match it up.

AMEN . yes 3 pedals the only way to go . hold out for teh best , dont settle for 2nd best. i have driven a e39 m5 , not bad nice pull up top , but still feels like a heavy car . owned a e39 540i auto(tiptronic ,same as a auto) touring for while , i just find the auto's fustrating , ok if you just want to fall asleep at the wheels , but not for me .

use a e30 m20 320i flywheel with a uprated clutch they are light enough. got one in my e36 325i , works fine , didn't fancy using the dual mass unit.

I THINK THESE guys walk into super cheap and say to them selves , that looks nice i think i will buy it this week and put it into my car .

have had a few options over the years . one car had jamex with boge turbo . sat lowish and was only a little floaty on high speed corner/bumps. had another with jamex and bilsteins , alot better sporty ride and sat low . i am just in the process of fitting some dobi springs to my wifes e34 with bilsteins . only a little lower and with sleightly stiffer ride . so if you dont want drop it down try the dobi's and with just munroes or someting . dont bother doing springs without shocks , will just handle realy bad . i have a pair of good low millage original spec munoe's for the front. do it once not twice .

i had that happen to me a few years back in a e32 730i v8 . gear lever just wouldn't move , not the cable was the mech inside teh gearbox the plastic plunger(thats operated by the gear lever) in the gearbox valve body was sticking when it got hot . gearbox had water in it at some stage (coolant crossover from faulty radiator trans cooler). i dropped the valve body down cleaned it all out , honned down the plastic plunger abit so it was a loser fit , and fitted back togther new filter and oil etc . got it going again , but not sure i would reccomend it . i have anice 4l v8 and trans if you want to swap it all over . go well with the red leather seats too.

i have replacement stalks if needed. easy to swap out . 021433600
