  1. ALWAYS, without exception, go with them on the test drive. This is the rule of thumb in the motor industry. You do this for several reasons. You don't want them thrashing your car. If you are not in the car with them then a lot of buyers tend to see what the car can do. You also control where they go and how long they go on the test drive for. I know of instances where people have allegedly taken the car to their 'mechanic' partner etc. and not returned for an hour or two. Finally, and most importantly as a salesman, I usually close the sale on the test drive. Remember that your car is probably a lot better than the car they currently drive, (that's why they're buying a new car) so they are probably 'fizzing' over driving yours. One little tip. When taking people on a test drive, I always take them around a residential/commercial area first, then onto the motorway. When they ask which exit to take, tell them the next one but, if they think that yours is the car they really want to buy, then tell then that they can take it further if they like. If they drive past the next off ramp, you've sold them the car. (Letting out some insider salesman secrets here)
  2. Congrats to the new Mods. And boy do we need more of them. Now maybe this forum will become what it was intended to be in the first place and there is no more flaming, pointless posts and an end to some members using it as a chat room. Well done Admin.
  3. Welcome to bimmersport mate. Just one word of warning though regarding your lights. You have an E36 coupe and you must get lights for a coupe. The Sedan lights are different and do not fit properly.
  4. Hi Brad and welcome to bimmersport. Firstly, where are you from? and secondly, it is compulsary to post photos of your car. Cheers Brian
  5. You've summed it up in one sentence.
  6. Some Wednesday humour or How to judge class.
  7. Welcome to the madhouse Ryan. You should bring your car to the cruise on Feb 1st so we can meet you. Check out the thread. http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....showtopic=27305
  8. Sorry about that Simon but I did have a look before I posted this and couldn't find it anywhere.
  9. Watch and weep The cars traded in the American Cash for Clunkers program had to have their engines disabled. They did this by draining the oil and filling with a mixture of water, silica and sand. Then reved them until they seized. But the Beemer took a lot of killing.
  10. Yes Glenn, but they haven't more than doubled them.
  11. That is blatant theft on the part of AA if that is correct, however what excess have you opted for? Most Euros have a minimum of $500.00 excess and if AA want $2k for 3 years then that would have to be zero excess. Go to the franchise dealer you bought the car from and see if they can arrange a warranty for you.
  12. PM Hotwire, he's the Autoelectrical expert on the forum and will know the answer to your problem.
  13. Will a 2.8 litre engine pull a 7 series body?Well you answered that question in your first post. The 2.8 engine was designed basically for the 3 and 5 series models and yes it will struggle in a 7 series. Because the car is so damned heavy the poor engine will be working it's tits off to move all that weight. The car was designed to be powered by a V8 and it will cost you as much in fuel to run a 2.8 as it would a V8 model. You mentioned getting a prepurchase inspection and I heartily agree with that decision, however do get the inspection done by a BMW specialist. Do not let the dealer arrange the inspection for you and don't even consider AA. This is a specialist car. Can I VERY STRONGLY recommend you contact Glenn at Botany Motor Worx, he is a forum sponsor so look him up on the home page. Finally, listen to what Glenn tells you.

The very best of luck Dylan. I have spent several years looking for just that car. It must be in Cosmosschwartz and a coupe, but up till now I haven't been able to find a good enough vehicle, and I'm a car dealer and know pretty well everything that is for sale by dealers in this country.
  15. The police now have new Zero Tolerance Speed Cameras Be very careful.
  16. My plate is C0SM0S. This baffles most people except BMW enthusiasts Now figure out why it is called C0SM0S
  17. Happy Birthday Brent, and I hope we see you and your family on the cruise.
  18. Glenn, my car seems to lose some power when I turn corners, so would it solve this problem if I used 4 tip plugs, and which ones do you recommend.
  19. Renault and Ford are working on a new small car for women. They are mixing the Clio and the Taurus, and calling it the "Clitaurus." It comes in pink, and the average male thief won't be able to find it, even if someone tells him where it is.
  20. I have checked with Protecta and find that they will not warranty M3's or in fact any of the European performance vehicles. I understand that this also applies to other warranty companies as well. I can understand their reasoning because the cost of most repairs to these type of vehicles usually amounts to several thousands of dollars and supplying warranties for them is totally unprofitable.
  21. Ryan, I am a dealer and have imported thousands of cars from Japan, and the first thing you must gat is an agent in Japan. Once you have purchased the cars they must be deregistered and delivered to the boat. This job is done by the agent and he will charge about $NZ1,500.00 per car. Then you have shipping, about the same amount, before the car arrives in NZ you have to arrange a customs agent to handle the importing over here and you will have to pay their fees plus the GST on the initial purchase, agents fee and shipping. From there they must be complied and can I suggest you go to the North Shore Compliance Center for this. You also have to take care of MAF although this is often done in Japan before the car leaves, but that is another expense you have to deal with. I don't know how you intend to buy, but be very careful if you are buying at auction, because once the hammer falls you own the car irrespective.
  22. Perhaps what they tell us on the packets is all BS.
