if you arent going to get a new front bumper, my next mod would be to chance the numberplate holder or get a european/long plate so it fits nicely rather than have black bits on the side! and if you havent already, debadge the 318i on the back and definitely hurry on the clear indicators, troll trademe for secondhand ones, or hellbm otherwise... diy smoke them for the time being haha wont cost alot

where can i find a guide to do this? or is it really easy? also where to cop bumper mesh to replace the slats? cheers
-
thanks for everything guys. for now i think the owner is going to go ahead and replace the ball joints and check some of the connected parts as well. will be using genuine parts from bmw. I myself have always used genuine parts and although it may be slightly more expensive, nothing goes wrong.. (ps. original bmw window wiper blades are so superior lol)

its not exactly my car (mine is the e36 in the sig) so its not like i am in any way "emotionally attached" to it.. if i get the whole job done - ball joints, control arms bushes shocks, how much am i looking at? its probably not going to be worth it is it considering the car's value these days..

Hi everyone, I have a slight problem with a 1999 528i e39. here is the story: Driving at motorway speeds, then stepping on the brakes, the steering wheel would vibrate, i had a bmw mechanic who told me i had to change.. reaction arm bush set (part # B31129068753, also described as "set rubber mounting fpull rod") $92.59 two brake hoses $127.09 each and Rh top wishbone $346.68 I didnt do anything after getting this quote for some time, maybe a year or so.. but then then i went to another mechanic and got the reaction arm bush set replaced both sides, and it seems the car is the same if not worse than before... the steering wheel still vibrates or shakes when i step on the brake from motorway speed, it doesnt do it at low speeds though. but that aside, after getting the reaction arm bushes replaced, the car seems to be very slightly shaky at high speeds. and when driving even on smooth surfaces, it feels slightly bumpy at times.. very hard to describe. anyways heres a pic of the passenger side reaction arm bush (just for reference) ALSO, i had the passenger rear tyre blow out on my on the motorway.. turns out it was cuz the inside was wearing out way way more than the outside (for both rear tyres actually but more so the passenger one) thought this was cuz of the negative camber (which was like 3 degrees) but after getting a wheel balance and alignment and taking out as much camber as possible (ended up with around 2 degrees still) nothing was going well. got tyres replaced btw. front is 235/45/18 on bridgestone eagle f1 rear is 245/40/18 on toyo proxes4 now bbs mags NOW, i just had the car hoisted up and was wobbling the rear wheels. it wobbles up and down a fair bit on the passenger side and a tiny tiny bit on the driver side. apparently this is because of this part - ball joint i got told by a guy at bmw that e39's have a common problem with the "Rear lower ball joint" wearing out. i got quoted $78.59 for the ball joints for 1 side.. plus about 4 hours labour to replace them.. now i dont want to spend that much money on this car.. but at the same time i want the car to be safe and road worthy.. now at the moment, car feels not as smooth as it used to be.. and its just not a comfortable drive.. before it was amazing though.. do you guys think that i have the correct diagnosis done by these guys or could it be something else? please help, i dont have the time or money to go fix one thing, then go fix another thing to find out it was something else again! thanks for all your help in advance and sorry for the long post!

so my 1997 bmw 323i coupe motorsport needs an oil change... previously with my other cars i either went to AA or to bmw team mcmillan.. but im just wondering if there is a better and or cheaper option that is fairly decent. aa quoted roughly $89 + $15 for flush +$25 for extra 2.5L of oil. they use ELF oil bmw quoted around $400 +gst for a complete oil service. they use magnatec or something like that any ideas? thanks.. EDIT: is bmw the only place i can get those green and red blocks reset cuz mine r on the last 1 or 2 blocks now *heres a picture of my car just to make this post less boring*

haha fair enough.. but think about it this way.. pplates from nz - $800+ german plates normally $180? you guys paid $50? so you have anything between 130~750 saved on a pair of plates that can fund a possible future (but hopefully non-existent) ticket fine.

are the parts coming off that car in the photo? (it used to be my friends car about 2 or 3 owners back and he did those mods haha)
-
ah, sorry about that i thought maybe there was some development in that area. (maybe legalized or something.. damn wishful thinking) gosh, havnt been on bs for a while now. so much to read so little time
-
So im just wondering, arent german plates still illegal to be put on nz cars? especially if they're gonna be ones like black background with white or silver lettering?

MF steering wheel will be a real luxury, just get some real tough looking mags, probably go with 18's, we have 18's on our family e39 and it looks the part and comfy, 19's and u got a bumpy ride. tints r always a must. what is the sound system on the car? bmw business? and also im guessing u got orange taillights? judging from the orange indicators, could use a smoke/tint spray/clear light swap. otherwise, looks pretty good in the grey and nice bodykit too

maybe its all a part of a complex plan in which you're given extra good service knowing you'll be pleased, hence expect you to visit again for next service/wof then slam u down with a $2000 repair bill. who knows..

i just went thru ur pics heino, u cud easily do a grill spray but then i think it looks alright, kinda goes with the chrone wheels. but yea. (not a fan of number plate surrounds tho ) edit: these mags i remember i had them on my old red e36 years back http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-307261000.htm

i think the best cheap mods are as follows: 1. tints- they make almost any car look better 2. wheels 3. lowered (i prefer to keep my car at a comfortable ride height tho, its just too much of a hassle going over bumps and ripping the bumper off etc) other than that are just things like.. vacuum the inside, wash the outside, wax/polish, clean wheels, clean tyres, clean headlights, hid's, angel eyes (if u want) exhaust system, air filter? etc etc another thing i like on non-black cars is to get the trims colour matched with the body, i just think it looks alot nicer (but also debatable)

interior looks wild. more pics wud b nice!
