  1. There seems to be pretty varied opinions on this. I just did mine with Redline MTL. You can also apparently use Redline D4 ATF. I've heard mixed reports from virtually everything. People seem to agree the manufacturers recommendation has been pretty much surpassed within the last 20 years. After the change, my box seems to be great synchro is silent (far more than it was before) and shifts are smooth and fast. I'd recommend Redline.
  2. We've got a mk5 jap import GT (which as far as i understand is basically a 2.0 FSI) with the 6 speed auto. Picked it up ~60k straight from Japan, in absurdly pristene condition. It literally looked brand new. Deeply concerning. Either way, its gone from 60k to 100k with no troubles at all. Great car to drive. As elmarco mentions, goes like crazy for a little NA hatch. The lazyness of the auto in drive, and the wild aggresiveness of it in sport is probably my only gripe. Interesting to hear about the trans - might have to look into getting it serviced properly. Not a DIY proposition?
  3. I noticed something funky going on with the door trim in the photos. Looked like it might've had a non-M sport front door transplanted at some point? Anyway I'm sure you'll have a blast restoring it to its rightful condition. Immensely fun car to drive with a power band the size of the African Sahara, and handles like its on rails.
  4. Had that one on the watchlist for a while. Very good price. Hope you enjoy it
  5. Blue E34 M5 with the number plate MIIIII headed north on SH1 after Tristram offramp.

    WTB 02 sensors e36

Basically just stick a multimeter in the relevant pins to make sure voltage is varying with o2 levels. In depth article here: http://www.autodiagnosticsandpublishing.com/feature/o2-sensor-testing.htm

    WTB 02 sensors e36

I have a couple. I'll have to test them when I get home - i'll let you know.
  8. Sensational - thanks heaps guys.
  9. Hey man - loving the thread. Very inspirational. Just wondering where you got the rear 1/4 window seals, and what the part no. is (if its not too much trouble). The part munted here: http://bimmersport.co.nz/forums/uploads/monthly_09_2013/post-5102-0-39048600-1380345641.jpg And lovingly replaced here: http://bimmersport.co.nz/forums/uploads/monthly_09_2013/post-5102-0-77172300-1380345664.jpg Having trouble identifying it on realoem: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BF92&mospid=47432&btnr=51_2060&hg=51&fg=10 Thanks so much.
  10. I looked for one for a long time before I pulled the trigger on my current car. Don't come up often.
  11. I had my '88 Mirage fail because it didn't have a middle lap belt. Had to get one installed. Came like that from the factory and had never had a problem in 20 years of WOFs before. Very weird.
  12. Pulled out front suspension. Replaced top mounts, bump stops, sway bar end links. Pulled out rear suspension. Replaced top mounts, bump stops. Installed ECS strut tower reinforcement plates. Replaced missing exhaust mount bolts. Replaced the crusty old 4" Nokia speakers in the parcel shelf with some new Sony ones. Replaced transmission fluid with Redline MTF. Nearly killed myself getting the fill plug out. ^ what noob left these out?
  13. I've got a spare VANOS kit (seals, shims, and the besian systems shim install tools) for a S50B32 - so let me know if anyone wants it, i'll let it go for less than i paid for it.
  14. Very cool - loving the ride height! That Scirocco in the last pic stirs my loins.
  15. Got a parcel of goodies from the states. Lots of suspension parts for a bit of a refresh, as previous owners seem to have neglected this aspect rather. New top mounts all around and reinforcement plates, bump stops, front end links. 02 sensors, Peake Tool. Started with new 02 sensors and resetting fault codes. Went for a drive and didn't come back, so good news there. (touch wood) Obligatory irrelevant photos:
  16. Looking to check the valve clearances on the S50B30, and wondering the best place to source valve shims and the special BMW bucket depressing tool. Dealership the best bet, or is there somewhere better? Done some Googling with limited success. Cheers!!
  17. Sweet blue e36 M3 coupe on Forrest Hill Road - number plate M3AN - i assume that belongs to a member?
  18. Damn I need to do the rear 1/4 window seals on mine too. Looks good
  19. Door tweeter wasn't working, so pulled off the door card, picked up a replacement from HellBM. All installed and working now. One of those satisfying little jobs
  20. Just a quick update. Had it scanned, and isn't throwing any errors other than the exhaust 02 sensors, which are disconnected. The noise, according to Bellar's Motor Works is normal injector noise - so that's a relief. My car has been de-catted, but it's a pre-cat 02 sensor model, so I don't really understand why they would have been disconnected unless one was causing problems. I've ordered a peake tool and two new 02 sensors, so hopefully i'll get to the bottom of that one.
  21. I've heard really varied stuff about this - the consensus seems to be stick to the factory ones, as they are so easy to replace on the S50 there is no point going with the hi-tech platinum iridium ones, as afaik all they do is last a bit longer. OEM is Bosch 5YDDC iirc.
  22. Haha - whoops! I'm not sure I ever even realised they made a 540 e34. Nice buy
  23. Very cool - I've always had a soft spot for the 540s. To me, the E39s are the handsomest BMWs ever made, second only to the E38.
  24. I've heard great things about MBL8.
