note they are carefully parked on the inside of the corner, the gravel would be spraying the other way

stick to the 5,s Richard, kit and leather standard on lots.....
-
just go to a bmw dealer with a bottle and buy the exact ammount you need.Better some $ for teh oil now than no worky LSD later
-
what about the LHD vs RHD factor? Levellling motors make small adjustments to the aim of the headlights,so that if you have rear seat passengers you go to postion 1,and if you have rear seat passengers and a boot full of luggageyou go to position 2.Each postion aims the headlights slightly lower.Next time you park at night,if you are close to a wall or fence give it a try,you will see the hotspot move up and down slightly

Cant blame the car for shoddy maintenance.Sounds like the trans cooler has corroded and let coolant into the trans.Thats why you need to ensure coolant is changed regularly.Auto trans problems arent unheard of in high mileage cars tho.Hope it all works out.

The M parrallels that came on the E39 M5 would be my pick for wheels,I dont think you will be wanting wheels with 40 mm offset tho 10 20 would be pretty standard for a e 39 I would have thought. The price for genuine M5 wheels would be fairly steep though
-
damn i thought that was the BMWCC price , Figured it was US or British price...

at $83 000 i will get a mortgage now!

I have got a 1990 535,I went to a auto electrician in Waione st petone.Overall the service was sh*t but ended up getting good service from the guy who finally came out to see me.I got a Hella battery, which was identical to the BMW branded battery that was in there. If it mounts under the seat or in the boot make sure you get the proper venting kit as well.See if you can charge your old one (and top up the water) it first.I have a battery charger you can borrow.

91 in the ol 535,sometimes will go 95,95 feels nicer and marginally more economical 550 ks per tank about 62 litres normal fill that s 11.2 per 100.pretty easy driving buts lots of traffic lights,so accellerate to 100 ks,then stop.Accellerate to 100 ks then stop....nice when you get a good run.If i lived on the flat my average would be in the 10-11L per 100 km

http://www.bimmer.info/ the 5 series forum is by far the busiesta lot of guys who know a lot about E34,s
-
they arent genuine. He says that they are manufactured (or modified) to fit either the e39(74.1mm hub) or any other 5 6 7 or 8 series(72.5mm) so if you proceed you must tell him you have E 39.The freight wont be to bad if you go via a container ship, but of course it takes longer. When i was enquiring for 17x8 style 10 wheels i was given a price of 750 plus gst each from shelleys.

I dont know what else they can call it,but to call it an M1 just seems wrong. If you are interested in the M1 take a look at this!
-
not necessarilly.the offset is the distance from the centre line to the mounting surface of the wheel.Putting a half in on either side of the whhel is probably what happens but you may not be able to move the inside surface in by 13 mm so you have to have a 13 mm offset to shift the wheel back out by 7mm.(20 - 13 = 7)
-
The M5 came std with 17 inch wheels originally but later e 34 models(like cains) had either a 17x8 with 20 mm offset or 17x9 on the rear(not sure what the offset was on those wheels, but the rears are not so critical as the fronts re offset. This is leaving out the 18 in wheels on the 3.8 M5 as this wil cloud the issue even further
-
std e34 offset is et 20,and 235 45 17 is correct for diameter.235 may be a tad small for 8 and a 1/2,so 255 40 may be better,235s look smaller in profile on my 8 and 1/2 compred to the 8 in rim, presumably beacause they are slightly stretched. My ET15 17x8 1/2 definetly sit out more than ET20 17 x8,s.So i run 235 45 at the mo with std mtech suspension no rubbing at all, your car definetly looks lower tho
-
most sevens will actually be cheaper than the "equivalent' 5 series.
-
the thrust arms bushings can also be a shimmy causing failure, common on e34 and e 39
-
1990 535is (up spec 535) was north of $125,000
