Got one from Repco for about $10-15 a couple of years back.

You don't say? Why would Glen joke about such a serious topic??!

I totally agree with you guys who are taking the moral high road regarding modified cars without certs - dangerous vehicles on the same roads as me and my family etc etc, BUT There are plenty of mods you are allowed to do without a cert. Cops often don't know the rules well enough to make the call. Next thing you know, your m5 that has nothing but a set of totally legal supalow springs with shortened shocks and a set of 17" Alpina rims is being crushed because the cop doesn't believe you that the springs are captive and is mistaken that because your front kit is less than 100mm off the ground (even though no chassis, steering or suspension component is) that you are driving without a required cert. Bye Bye m5. Its not the crushing - its giving the cop on the beat the power to do it that's the problem. Whats wrong with confiscation and then crushing after the court process with storage costs added on to the offenders fine??? Why must it happen on the side of the road?
-
Please PM me details and photo. Cheers. WOFTAM has been around longer than the internet. I remember my Dad saying it when I was a sprog.
-
Me too, on the proviso that the cops know what is legal and what isn't. WHICH THEY DON"T. Plenty of examples of stickered cars that are found not to need a cert when they are checked. Once the car is crushed no way you can prove they were wrong. I think you will find that our legal system won't actually allow it as you must be given the chance to defend your case in court - you can not be given an irresversible punishment at the time of the offence.

Here I occasionally have a browse through the news section of the LTSA website as they often "sneak" things through with the only announcement being on that part of their site. Its been a few months since I looked the site.

The new rules regarding vehicle noise come into effect on 1 June. A new rule relating to tyres came quietly into force in November - you now need 1.5mm of tread across the entire tread pattern around the entire tyre, not 3/4 like the old rules. Does anyone know when the date for radar detectors to be banned is???

This was the one stolen late last year, but I was on holiday and so didn't need a new one until now.
-
Mine got stolen. Was an older Nokia so insurance a total WOFTAM. Just want a replacement - must be able to receive pxt, but camera not essential. Long battery life and solid design important. Cheers.
-
Yeah over time. Just get under there every now and then, clean up the area with a wire brush and chuck some rattle can black rust inhibitor over the bare areas. Its not a great idea to be bashing them all the time, but as long as they are rust and dent free you'll pass your WOF.
-
Just don't put any dents in them or you will probably fail your WOF. Light scrapes is OK.

Yeah Josh's photography. It is on the road to Kaiaua/Miranda at a DOC reserve. The vendor won't have asked Josh's permission to use the pic as it is the one I used on TM when I sold it. We did a meet there about 3 years ago and Josh took pics of a dozen or more of our cars.

Link Looks like the head gasket went on the old girl after I sold her, which is a shame. Motor was in tip-top cond at time of sale. Was a real minter - no rust and mint paint. I bought it auto and did the manual conversion myself, so the clutch etc is only about 3 years old. Cambelt and water pump done around the same time. No idea how well the current owner has treated her though. Sold it around 2 years ago. PM me for any details if you are looking at buying as I can give you a pretty good history of the car from the time it was imported until I sold it.

Heya, a few questions about my new project E30 M323i
bravo replied to Jacko's topic in General Discussion
I bought powerflex urethane bushes from dynamic race parts Good to deal with and product looks pretty good. Yet to install so will let you know in due course. Talk to Keith (username: SUSPENSION) for your springs and he can recommend shocks to go with them. -
Looking good mate. I like your taste in wheels (all of them posted so far, although the second set of works ones the least). Tourings are so hot. What shocks did you get and how much? How do you find the Vogtlands?

Start worrying then Link

Mint, just got back from holiday and found the email. Need new sunnies too. Badass.

So glad to be off work for the year. I've got till the end of January off with annual leave owing up the wazoo so should be awesome. We did the family christmas thing early (tonight) so I've already done the gift thing. hah. New cellph, a self portrait from my artist g/f (her self portrait), and powerflex urethane bushes from dynamic race parts for the e30 (thanks mum - you know me too well) being highlights. Bring on new year and drunkeness!

If the sponsors advertised in it to cover costs, it could be a free thing for members. Now that would be really good.

I doubt it. Very little of what I said follows the lines of the media reporting. Go figure?

I think you may be missing the point Josh. Why buy new cars at all? All this nonsense about old vehicles causing more damage than new is a crock. There are two things in the "green" debate when it comes to vehicles. 1) Emissions - from the vehicle, and from the factory making the vehicle, and ships transporting the vehicle. 2) Use of non-renewable resources, namely fossil fuel and water - going through the vehicles engine and being used to produce the vehicle. (plant machinery, power, plus you forget that all plastics etc are also petroleum products). The dogma from government about raising the age of the vehicle fleet to be green stems from the fact that the government is only considering the emissions and fuel usage to run the car. If every car coming onto our shores (new and secondhand) automatically accumulated a carbon deficit based on the cost in terms of emissions and resource use to build, and was then "depreciated" over the life of the vehicle, you would find that a well-serviced older vehicle kept in service is in fact overall, greener than the combined environmental cost of scrapping it and producing a newer vehicle to replace it. We should be encouraging recycling of old vehicles for parts (like we do already), proper maintenance of the current fleet, responsible scrappuing of the fleet as it passes its useful life, and THEN encourage any new vehicles required to expand or top-up/replace the fleet to be green. It makes no environmental sense to scrap the entire fleet tomorrow and construct an entire new fleet of "greener" cars. It just doesn't add up. If the government wanted to lead by example like the Hon David Parker claims, then they would improve the efficiency of the current vehicles even if that equates to higher economic cost over purchasing new vehicles. I guess it all depends on whether you want to focus on preventing climate change (if indeed it is a risk), or whether you wish to preserve our way of life (by responsible use of finite resources), or both. Also, as a side note - anyone read that rubbish on the american sweet potato/kumara they are trying to use to create ethanol as it has a high starch content? They claim that it is better than corn as the starch content is higher and as it is a non-edible variety it won't put pressure on food stocks. Again - more spin. Of course it will put pressure on food-stock. What do you think they'll have to stop growing in the fields if they want to grow these instead? I think biomass and biofuels may be one way ahead, but I wish that the media would at least report things semi-close to reality. PS - I'm not a greenie. I'm not even convinced that climate change is a reality. However, it looks as though like it or not, we may be legislated into alternative fuels, Kyoto, etc, and I want to make sure that whatever we end up with is a half-way decent solution. otherwise we're all going to be regulated out of our old classic cars, forced to run new mini-cars with no character on cow methane, meanwhile we starve as there is no longer any food being produced due to all the worlds farm production being used to create fuel for power, ugly mini-cars and ipods.

The printer at my office has been threatened with a short swift journey off the end of the wharf half a dozen times. It listens, so has thus surived...

But Josh, same goes for Ford. If the margins are the same, then the Fords would still be a much sharper price as they too would be heavily discounted. I wish politicians would act like the public servants they are supposed to be.

BMW part. Not sure of part number.
