It's a '78 so should be m10 (4cyl) They've been turbo'd before too if you like a bit of forced induction.

Happened to a mate who swapped his skyline (highly modified) for a Subaru Forester (also highly modified). The forester got repo'd so he went around with a few boys and repo-d his skyline back. Unfortunatley the new owner had alreaded cut the springs - as if the fact they were supa lows didn't make it low enough in the first place. Atleast that was the only damage. Pity you can't go repo your cash back. Moral is get a VIR I guess. Although if someone came to my place and told me my car was about to get repo'd, they'd have to move fast as I'd have the thing hidden almost immediately.

Yeah - I think I'm sorted though, thanks Emma.

Agre although a 78 320 - that's not an m20 motor is it? It would be the 2.0L m10 with Jetronic fuel injection???? Webers would sound bad, and it would go a bit better. Still m50b25 in an e21 would be cool too.

Been having a word to my tyre guy whose a friend of the family. Helps me out alot on little things here and there, so I'm going to go to him even though he's not the cheapest as its worth the few extra dollars for the free advice all year round. Been quoted $1000 fitted for 4x Dunlop Sport Maxx 205/45/r17. I wanted Sport 9000's but he only has those in a DSST (run flat) spec which is what is no the car now and they give a harsh ride being run-flats. The other option is 215/40/r17 Dunlop Direzza's for a little bit less. I'm worried that 215's may look a bit fat on the rims as the 205's look perfect. How do the two compare performance wise? Anyone have a compelling reason why i should go a totally different route? Cheers.

To the batcave Robin! I'm against the idea of a cabby personally, and I wouldn't be caught dead in a hard-top e36 that colour except maybe an m3, but together it's just sex on wheels. Affordable too - pity its not a 328.

Spot on. The drive is to warm the box up so you don't have to do that between each check - just the first one. On the dipstick in my auto 325 there are two raised bumps on the stick for max and min.
-
Check the current diff ratio - it's prolly a 3.9 or 4.1 already. My old 320 had a 4.1 from factory and it was fine with the auto, but a bit to short for when I manualed it and I went for a 3.9 afterward. Manual conversion will set you back around $1500+ if you do the work yourself. Budget $2k-3k if you pay someone.

Do you not remember the South Auckland meet. Anything would be like a bat out of hell compared to whatever he was driving then!

Insurance Co. finally agreed to let us keep the car, so it's up for sale. Trademe link

Yeah it's safe to top it up. Make sure you follow the instructions in the owners manual - ie car is running and trans up to temp or else it will read low. Flush will cost $100 or more if done properly as they should replace the filter and there's quite a bit of fluid in one of these boxes plus what is wasted doing the flush, and fluid runs at around $18 a litre.

I'm guessing it is an e36? Why not try a manual conversion? That should liven things up a little. If its an e30, then it'll be even cheaper than for e36.

They are around the 40mm mark - were on my SA 325i when I bought it, but as I lowered it more, and didn't ever have stock springs in, I didn't get a chance to measure the drop. They are the same model number as teh e30 series spring except the e30 series spring is the supa low and these are lows. Damo also has some Jamex'es with similar drop and progressive rate for about the same money although I know someone else on here interested in those. Will be fine with stock shocks - captive etc as my car had stock shocks when I bought it and these springs were captive. The springs aren't going anywhere, just sitting in the shed so take your time.

Did you tear apart an alpina? why?

Electrical tape still going strong. Intend to get some vinyl off Shelley to do it properly, but havn't got off my ass yet. Looks good as it is though - impossible to tell its just tape.
-
Hah that's actually pretty good.

Gas shock inserts (all four) from an e30 320i. Will fit 325 too I believe. Were near-new when removed from car and been stored for a year or so now. Was keeping them as spares just in case my Bilsteins packed it in, but if they go now I'll be replacing them with adjustables, so no need for the munroes anymore. Perfect replacement for stock items that are getting a little bit tired. Make me an offer, but I guess they're worth around $300 or so? If I'm off-base here let me know. Second hand adjustables are going for $350 for 2, so I thought these must be worth about half the price?

I'll fix anything Gary f**ks up. For a fee of course.... Just kidding bro. Gd Luck with that.

A bit small, but if I change my mind I'll let you know.

The best way around it is to get it welded before you fail a WOF, and get it done really tidy including paint. If its all nice and tidy, they won't pick up on it. If they see big gaping ragged holes I'll bet my left nut they'll spot it and then you'll have to get it welded and certed at a much bigger cost, or write the car off. Did you notice before you bought the car???

Yeah, you can't get a personalised plate in the "general release" series ie a plate marked for general release like your black plates, so if you ever change the plates to personalised, the number on your black plate is lost forever essentially. Tell the WOF place to suck eggs they are not allowed to fail you on plate-related items. You don't even need plates to get a WOF.

As I was saying the other day Andy, you can get the clear stuff at Supercheap. I've seen it at Repco, but only clear, not coloured.

Saw an e36 in the wkend with MY328U works for 320's and 328's clever. Except a bit of a misnomer esp for a 320 - what did it eat? A Fiat Punto?
