  1. NO. Frantic was wrong and I've removed his post as it was advocating illegal and unsafe practise. The WOF rules clearly state that if your springs have been heated or cut you need a cert. You won't get a cert with cut factory springs, so you will fail a WOF. if you have an accident and the springs were found to contribute, you won't have any insurance and you will be liable for any damage you cause. If you cut your springs, lose it on a corner (even if you were obeying the road rules), and kill someone, you will possibly be facing jail time. Bimmersport does not condone illegal modifications to cars. Illegally modified cars are banned from all bimmersport events. Cars attending Bimmersport sanctioned events may be subject to scrutineering. Members found breaching these rules will be banned from the site.
  2. Because shortening the springs alters the spring rate thus affecting your handling. Also, the spring will be subjected to greater loads and may fail. Plus the captivity issue. A google search may provide you with the hows and whys if you are keen enough to find out more.
  3. You're right, Mark. 100mm to any structural part of the vehicle or any steering or suspension component. Shady - the fact the you are willing to run cut springs says alot. This is ridiculously dangerous - up there with drink driving. Low does not necessarily mean it handles well.
  4. Like I said - n00b mistake. A well-handling car allows you to have more fun until you can do the engine mods. You can do suspension mods without changing performance, but not the other way around. My old 320 was stock when I bought it. Upgraded the suspension and it was like I'd bought a whole new car.
  5. Save your money. Do it once. Do it properly. You say you want to spend money on performance rather than handling. Total n00b mistake. The best money I spent on my car was the suspension, and I wish I'd spent more. At a bare minimum you want some springs with a decent rate, some matched shocks, and some urethane. Next step up would be some uprated sway bars (do you have the factory sway bars? If not, this would be a very cheap upgrade), and to do it properly some coil overs like what Incary has done. This will make your car better to drive, more engaging, faster on the corners, and if you do ever make it go faster at least it will handle well. Performance mods on crap suspension = crap car or in the ditch upside down. Shortened shocks don't make any difference to ride height - they are used to make shorter springs captive. I can't believe that you are at 105 mm. I'm at around 110 and my car looks much lower on my 17's I have about 10-15mm guard gap at the front, and the rears are tucked. The 14's look heaps better IMO. Looks very roller-skatish on the 17's at that height. BTW wheel size won't make any difference to ride height if you have the correct size tyres.
  6. BTW PJay - did you mean to write defecation, or did you mean defacement? Although, both may be appropriate in this case.

    And some debts to pay...
  8. Andrew had some on the back of the techII he had. Used to take them around Albany roundabouts in the wet for shits and giggles. They were total crap in the wet, but fun as you could lose traction at speeds well under the legal limits.
  9. Those will be the ticket depending on price! The TEO's look really good - similar to a Dunlop SportMaxx in tread pattern. Which probably means they're a tad pricier than I intended. I'll do some hunting around. Thanks.
  10. I was in Rapid Radio in Dunedin in the bad old days when they did more than just car audio helping a mate choose some sound gear for his FXGT (there's another 4AGE for this thread). This guy comes in with his g/f. Turns out the guy is deaf, but the g/f wants his car to go psssh, so he wants to buy a blow-off valve. One problem - it was NA. They're everywhere, you can't escape them.
  11. Do you crump like that too? 1:51.
  12. I'm struggling to get new tyres for my MR2. Stock size is 205/60/14 and the only tyre I can get is a Federal Formoza. Anyone able to help with some other options? Johhno is not replying PM's probably as he is a bit busy with fatherhood. Alternatively does anyone have some 5x114.3 rims in 15" or 16" for sale? 7" or 8" wide, around 30-45 offset depending on width. It's a long shot, but I'm getting desperate. Cheers.
  13. Expression of interest for e30 front strut bar. Is the pricing offered already discounted, or would a large order/group buy allow for some further discounting? Are they aluminium or steel? Painted or powder coated? Any idea on the weight? What gauge metal are the pickup points (eg 3mm, 5mm), and what is the bar cross-section diameter? As e30 strut tops have very limited thread length, are the holes oversized and stepped nuts used/provided? or is it assumed that modifications will be made for fitment. Are the holes slotted or round? Alot of questions I know, but all good ones.
  14. You have to be very careful and patient if you do it yourself. it is fairly difficult to get a really good finish without quite a bit of practice. It doesn't cost all that much to get the pros to do it, and there tint is often higher quality and a greater range. UV resistant and blocking etc.

I guess if you must live like a sardine, you may as well have a spacious tin! Looked really nice until I GoogleEarthed it and realised where it was. Just driving down those narrow streets gives me claustrophobia. I suppose if you need to be close to the CBD you have no choice, but it's a hell of a sacrifice to be close to town.

    Tyre Profile

215/35/16 is way too small. You have to be within 5% of the original size. So if you want a 215 it should be 215/50/16 or 215/45/16 if they're available. The aspect ratio is a ratio, not a height. ie a 35 sidewall is 35% of the tyre width. So a 215/35 is 75mm high, and a 195/35 is only 68mm high. 195/35/16 is WAY too small. on a 7.5" rim with stock power I'd go the 215/50/16 if it were me. Stock size is 195/65/14. My 17's are 205/45/17 and are the correct size. Have a play on this site. Choose a size that is within 5% of stock.
