    Muppet of the day...

HEYBBY - and in small print - How You Doin'? On my ex-workmates car. Age when he bought the plate? 17. Age now? 22. Still got the plate? - YUP. This is worse: $100 for a gay plate surround. USED. SEX NE I? HI 5EXY Is your girlfriend a GDBTCH, a CRZBCH, or just a plain old BTCH? Is she LO4AHO? or like to DPTHRT when she GOSDWN? I go tbored, but there are hundreds of stupid plates out there.
  2. The one I have works fine? Upgrade the car aerial?
  3. $1000 is very optimistic. I can get one from the wreckers for $800, and at least I have some comeback if its no good. I'll give you $650. Cash on pickup. Happy to pay 10% deposit, and will pickup and pay with 2 weeks.

    HELP please

An electric fan works at idle, when a viscous on isn't doing alot. An electric fan can be set to turn off when it isn't needed. At speed you don't really need a fan in an e30 as the 100km/h wind is enough, but at rest or slow speed you do, so this sounds like electric is the way to go. But if the electric one stops, how do you know? Unless you wire up a warning light, in which case, fine. If the fan stops it's either hit something (usually would make a noise), or the clutch has stopped working (usually gradual and you can check it now and again), or the belt has broken - hello alternator light on the dash! Also viscous usually pulls more air, and is immune from electrical problems caused by moisture. With the electric fans being so reliable these days its less of an issue, but I trust the viscous one more. You can always make it fixed if you don't trust the clutch.
  5. Warned. Thread closed. You don't deserve any further help on this issue.

    HELP please

That's interesting Alex. I've never seen a motronic 1.1 with the dizzy on the cam. Broken motor mounts went through my head, but I thought the problem was the fan jamming on the hose, not the shroud so decided it couldn't be that - but if it's jamming on the shroud then motor and box mounts should be checked. You should be able to get the shroud off without removing the rad - but you will have to remove the fan. Don't go electric. That's a bandaid solution, not a cure, and I'd prefer a working viscous anyday over elcetric, at least on e30's.

    Convert it?

If you pay someone to do the swap, you're better off buying something already manual as long as it's in at least as good nick, and so while you're at it you may as go 325i. If you do it yourself, you can save heaps. With the price of conversion kits these days, you'd do it for only a couple of hundy over a grand including buying the odd tool you're missing and all new clutch etc.
  8. How have I not come across this before. Awesome. Someone needs to do a kiwi version.
  9. Some cassette players used to sense if only one of the spindles was turning (ie if the trailing spindle wasn't turning) so used to flip the other way in case the tape was being stretched, or had broken or to help wind up any slack evenly without chewing your tape. The little adapters you are using only spin the powered spindle causing the problem you experience. There's no way around it AFAIK. What the hell are you using a cassette deck for anyway? Surely by now that is obsolete technology. There are plenty of factory-looking cd players that fit the e30 and you could pick one up for $30-40 odd. Also, how can a plug-in I trip with no cables be messier than a cable sticking out the front of your cassette deck?
  10. Be prepared to spill some trans fluid. There are two - one top and one bottom.
  11. Damn, doesn't look like they leave enough room for my s/c and piping. I was thinking of getting some of these once I had that done. Isn't your primary muffler a cat? If so, removing it and replacing with a muffler may improve power. h, and I'm sure you realise but looks like you've got a decent oil leak - seems to be on the gearbox.

    HELP please

Your problem appears to be the fan being too close to the pipe/motor, so changing the radiator wouldn't make any difference. Are there different fans for pre f/l and f/l? If the f/l fan is further from the motor, this might be the solution as long as it then doesn't foul the radiator. Like I said - hard to say without looking at it. Someone else may be able to visualise it better. I'd say your f/l motor was a retro fit. We've seen the odd "Hybrid" car with both f/l and pre f/l parts but these cars have been late 87 when the switch to f/l was happening.

    HELP please

Something's not right - you have a pre-f/l car with pre f/l expansion tank, but f/l motor (dizzy running off camshaft). But pre f/l diagnostic plug. Someones been dicking around at some stage. Plus the radiator doesn't llok right - hoses not right - you have f/l hoses, but they catching as it's not a f/l radiator. Will look at pictures a bit longer and see where you may be able to rectify. Edit: Maybe someone else can make heads or tails of it - I'm thinking I'd need to look at it in person to figure out what exactly is going on.
  14. On the f/l it's simply the two wop bolts, then remove the bracket, plus undo both top and bottom pipes, expansion tank pipe and temp sensor and it just ifts out. Is it auto?? Will also have pipes for auto trans. Make sure it's not just catching on a belt.
  15. Can we all please post helpful responses or not post at all? Post-whoring is lame. I think what PJay is getting at is that your list of cars are all quite different to each other in terms of performance and cost. You need to decide what you want the car for, and how much you want to spend. THEN we may be better informed to help you.
  16. I decided to open this topic in case any other members who are not admin want to add anythin. You have equally as much a right to add stuff as this is your forum too. Once the discussion dies I'll compile the comments and delete the posts. I know the tone of my tips can be a little bit "stern" so if you have anything positive to add, that'd be great. I'd also like to try not to repeat too much stuff that is covered by other stickies (eg Forum Rules, and For Sale rules).
  17. That guy is the only decent presenter on Fifth gear based on the few times I've watched it. I know people rave about Vicki, and Tiff's driving, but I don't really rate them as presenters. This guy is good. He sounds like a tv guy into cars, not a car guy shoved on tv.
  18. Other Mods/Admin please edit as you see fit. Treat this like a wiki. Tip # 1 - Post pics of your ride If you are a new member posting on the forum for the first time, pictures of your car are compulsory! The only exception is if you are new to BMW's and haven't yet purchased. Half-assed fuzzy cell-phone camera pics are not good enough. We are an enthusiast forum and want to see what you drive - be proud of your ride! Tip # 2 - Follow the rules Bimmersport has been around a long time. It started as a really small group of friends who just wanted a place to meet other BMW enthusiasts, talk sh*t and maybe catch up for the odd beer. The forum was created by them in their own time and with their own money. As bimmersport has grown, advertising has allowed some of the expenses to be covered, but the owners of the site still invest their own resources, and them with the help of the rest of the Admin/Moderation team spend a lot of their own (unpaid) time trying to keep the forum running. As such, the Admin and Mods get really peeved if members don't follow the rules, pick fights, use bad grammar, and especially - abuse the mods/admin team. Do yourself a favour and read the rules and follow them. If someone else breaks the rules and it affects you, don't start a fight with them - contact a Moderator. Tip # 3 - When in Rome.... As said above, Bimmersport started as a really small group of friends who just wanted a place to meet other BMW enthusiasts, talk sh*t and maybe catch up for the odd beer. Many of the early members are still here and most are good friends in the real world (not just on the internet), and often get together socially. This means often there are "in jokes" and slang etc that you may not get or understand. It is just like meeting a new group of people who are all friends. You wouldn't try and stand out and make a d*ck of yourself in that sort of situation. You would watch everyone else and either become part of the group, or decide its not for you and quietly leave. The same is true for our online community to some extent. If you have an opinion that differs from the group, you're entitled to it, but if you are new, don't make an example of yourself by loudly voicing and defending controversial opinions. If you are a new member, you need to first establish your credentials with the group and earn their respect/friendship before loudly voicing controversial opinions. Liken it to a dinner party with a group of old friends, if you will. A new comer to the group voices strong opinions loudly all night. The group dismisses the newcomer as rude, and opinionated despite the fact the newcomers points may have been valid. Tip # 4 - Have a sense of humour If someone says something you don't like, at first try and take it light-heartedly. Chances are they are just pulling your leg a little bit. Some members like to bait new members a little bit. Try not to get offended. If it gets out of hand or becomes personal rest-assured the admin and moderators will step in and sort it out, but try to remember this is just the internet - its not worth getting worked up about. Tip # 5 - Have fun There are a lot of different people on bimmersport, and this diversity makes it a great place. We have people of all ages, cultures, economic demographics, knowledge and skill levels and tastes. Embrace the diversity, and have fun. We'd love to see you at the next meet so we can put a face to the name and ummm.. talk sh*t and drink the odd beer.... Tip # 6 - Technical Questions suggested by *Glenn* If asking a technical question, please give Model, Year & if possible, last 7 digits of your Vin/Chassis # to get the right help. Tip # 7 - Use the Search button, followed by Google, followed by asking your question here suggested by _Mark_ Chances are your question about how to lower your car, reset your service lights, or install XXX part has been answered before, and probably more than once. If you find the search function on the forum difficult to get a good result from use Google and type "site:bimmersport.co.nz" after your search query. Google will then only display results from this site. Tip # 8 - If you want to discuss illegal or unsafe mods, this site is not for you suggested by Simon* Whilst we encourage modified vehicles, and love that low look, if you want to discuss illegally low setups, dangerous mods such as illegal wheel spacers, cut springs, or similar, then you are not welcome. Most of our members also tend to frown on the whole "gangsta" look SLABs, chromes and big-bores. Some of our members have these, and that is their taste, but if you get a bit of grief about it, that's life. There are plenty of other sites that like that sort of thing. Tip # 9 - This is not bebo suggested by Simon* Keep chat off the forums. Use the PM function, or go to a chat room. No one wants to here your personal conversation. Yes, we know you know the other member, yes we know you think your personal jokes are funny, yes we know you've got nothing else better to do, and we don't want to hear it. We don't want to watch your half-assed attempts at flirting. We don't want to read five pages of smilies. Keep the discussion on topic and keep your personal conversations out of the forum. Tip # 10 - Don't be a postwhore suggested by Grant If you aren't making a useful contribution to the topic at hand, don't reply. Your post count is not some kind of status symbol. If your posts aren't useful, a high post count just means you are even more full of sh*t. If you post whore you run the risk of pissing of other members, moderators, or admin, and thus run the risk of receiving a warning about your behaviour, or having your post count reset to zero. Tip # 99 - Gus thinks he's awesome suggested by Gus As evidenced here: E: Spelling
  19. Welcome. Do you have any pictures?
  20. Rofl. Beetle is for sale if you want it. We "inherited" it. Our jeep does this: (I can visualise Ryan cringing already lol) Thanks to Simon for the video. That's his 540i in the video BTW.
  21. Well you knew more of the owners than I did. I should have walked round with you. There were two e-types, Ryans roadster and Don Cottles hardtop. I didn't look under the hood of the morgan, but i knew they had BMW motor etc. I LOOOVE aero 8's. Yep, that was our jeep. Cool aye? Resisted the urge to bring the Baur 323i cabby, the '69 beetle, and the datsun 1100 cherry down. not enough drivers and relays home to pick them up sounded boring.
  22. Anything I missed you wanted pics of Nathan? I ran out of memory on the stick. All pics were 6mp.
  23. The owner reads BS but doesn't post. Nice guy with a sweet car. About time you signed up and said hello isn't it Pete?

Check out the 635csi in my Rainbow Car Show thread. ACS rims, nice ride height, cool kit, hot.
  25. Pics from this morning. The weather was so good I cancelled plans to pull my motor out and took the car to the show instead. About 300 cars at a guess??? And nothing that wasn't cool. If you use FB you have to be logged out for the following links to work:: I used the "share with people not on facebook" option to get a link. Facebook album vol. 1 Facebook album vol.2
